That is so sad to hear.....those decisions are very hard. Sending you and Maggie caring thoughts this morning.

That is when we decided to put our last dog down. When I took him to the vet to have it done, the vet actually thanked me basically for putting my dog out of his misery and not allowing him to continue to suffer. He went down hill very slowly and finally he just could not get up without me picking him up (80 lbs lab mix) and when he did get stood up, he walked wobbly and sometimes he would just go down because his little legs were too weak. Sometimes you just have to do what's right for the animal. It's very sad but it has to be done.

Oh, Susan, it's so hard, I know. We've all enjoyed sharing Maggie's good life via the pictures you've posted. Try to hold on to that good thought.

So sorry. I've enjoyed seeing pictures over the years of both your dogs.. I know they are very loved. It's one of the hardest decisions you'll ever make, but you'll know when the time is right.

I know your heart is breaking.... we have been there, and will be again ... our boxer girls are 8+ years now. My heart goes out to you. Sending hugs and good thoughts.

Sending you best wishes for having to make this decision. The last dog that I had that decision to make was because of this same thing. She was a 70 lb. English setter and we went for a while just having to help her up but it was when we got her up but she couldn't stay up, that we knew it was time. Just broke my heart and still does just thinking about it.

Most of us have been through what you are tormenting over BigAck. No matter how often (I've had to put down 3 cats, 2 with cancer and from liver failure). It's hell every time.
It's small comfort but think of The Rainbow Bridge. I bawl every time I read it. My heart hurts for you.

Thank you all! Maggies been lying around all day, but eating. Just got her out to pee and poo, but she could hardly stay up. May have to decide in the morning, will let you know.

I'm so sorry. I know what you are going though and I know you will make the right decision.

My heart goes out to you. This is a very heart-breaking time. My first dog that I ever had from puppy to the very end, was an Irish Setter. When the time came for Katie, who was then 14, I was so heart broken, my kids thought if it was one of them, I wouldn't be as devastated (thank the good Lord I never had to find out if that was true or not...LOL) My second dog was an Irish Setter also...another Maggie. She was my heart. We had a very special relationship. Once again, after 13 1/2 years, decision time. I must say, in both cases, the decision itself was not difficult. I knew it was time and the very best thing for my faithful, loving and dearest furry friend who gave me so many years of joy. Please know when you make that decision it is with the greatest love and kindness for your Maggie. ((((Susan and Maggie)))).

As hard as it is to do, please don't let your dog suffer. She doesn't deserve that. Like others here, I've been through this soooo many times that I've lost count, with both dogs and cats. We end their suffering out of our love for those furkids of ours and I do feel they are grateful to us for that last act of kindness to them. I firmly believe we will be reunited with all furkids we have loved, for they too are God's creations.

Having done this many times before, I certainly know your pain. It's a family member, and when you lose one it's the same. Non- animal people won't get this, but I love my pets more than I can say and live in fear the next one to die. I hope maybe it's not Maggie's time yet, and she can go on for a little while. But if it is, you have my deepest sympathy.
