At our age, we each have a standard breakfast that we like.

Lunch at home is one of 3 items, soup, BLT or turkey.

Dinner is more varied, and is really from what meat is in the freezer, and a starch (potatoes(white or yams) in the winter, and corn on the cob in spring and summer.
Dinner items are more about what meat and vegs look like when I shop. the week before.

We eat lunch or dinner out 2-3 times a week,

I alternate. So sorta? Sometimes I plan an entire month at a time. Sometimes I don't want to do it at all, but we think about things we might like to have for a period of time (a week). Even then, it's just to make sure the ingredients are in the house for them. Last night was fully planned and had been since Friday. Tonight? Whatever is leftover will be what's on the docket (prolly for me fried rice. For him? whatever??? protein he makes to go with his mac-n-cheese that's leftover). I wanted to cook last night's so that the youngin' and I cooked together. He prepared the pork chops and grilled them (indoor), quite well I might add (must be nice to be able to do it right?!). I made the rest, and we finished together. Best mom's day present ever. Some planning is good.

While raising my daughters I did. It was important because of all the after school activities and events. What day would be a quick meal. what could I prepare ahead and so on.

I have one daughter back at home, but as an adult, she takes care of her own dinners. (She's a vegetarian so often will not want what we are having)

For my DH and I I usually plan a few dinners but not necessarily what day we will have them. He likes to go to Bikram Yoga, but is not on a set schedule. He might say that he is going tonight and I then might swap around for a lighter meal since will be eating much later in the evening.

Sometimes he will come home and say he just wants a can of soup for dinner. So for me, flexibility is key right now.

Never. We eat whatever we feel like at each meal depending on what is in the house. I really don't stick to a plan.

I tried that once and it didn't work for us. Sometimes what I had planned for a certain day just didn't appeal to us that day. It was just easier to decide what we felt like eating that day.

Now that it's just me I just make sure I have plenty of fresh veggies in the house. I pick a meat out of the freezer, pick outs my veggies and then cook something that is really quick. I don't spend a lot of time on cooking things that take a long time. I'm happy with just sauteed or roasted veggies. Most of the time I cut the meat up into bite size pieces so they cook quickly in the pan. It doesn't require much planning on my part and I really like that.

I used to plan meals so that I could take advantage of sales and coupons, but we eat pretty simply these days so there's really no need except when planning for large holiday gatherings.

Yep. I plan for about 10 days worth of meals around what's in the pantry and freezer. No set meals on set days, but a general idea. Make a grocery list and hubby does the shopping.

No, not really. I just make sure I have lots of vegies on hand at all times and some chicken or prawns in the freezer. I usually have rice or pasta in the pantry. I do a lot of stir frys and just throw whatever is in the fridge into them. Last night it was chicken with broccoli and carrots in peanut sauce. Yum.

I have always cooked very simply even when the kids were growing up. So as long as there are fruits and vegies in the fridge we're good.

No, I never know what the main meal menu will be but always come up with a decent meal. I live in a rural area so try to keep a variety of things in the freezer and cupboards. I work better at last minute plans.

Nope. What we eat depends on what's in the fridge/freezer and how hungry we are. In supply are meat, vegetables, rolls and bread in the freezer, some canned or dried soups, and whatever produce looked good last trip to the grocery. There are hunks of ham and cheese on hand, crackers, butter, eggs, milk, cream, cereals.

We have cereal, fruit, and toast or an English muffin or fruit muffin most mornings. Eggs once or twice a week -- always on Sunday w/bacon and muffin or Danish. (We divide most muffins and sweet rolls in half.)

Lunch can be soup, meat or chicken, and cheese w/crackers -- or something left over from last night's dinner. We eat no bread or 'hamburger' buns, but do have a roll with dinner. We don't eat chips or french fries. I don't fry anything -- use a bit of olive oil.

Teatime is a pot of tea and a cookie or piece of chocolate.

An English friend said the menu at his childhood home seldom varied. It began with the Sunday roast and varied only after the last of the roast had been consumed as hash. His mother made full English breakfasts with eggs, bacon or bangers, beans or mash, and tomato. "Butter" was always at the top of her shopping list.

No, I just wing it. When I grocery shop which is weekly, I always leave the store with ingreds for 3 meals~~so that is a bit of planning. Tonight is my yoga night, I plan this night, by having DH call a restuarant by the center ordering dinner and I pick it up~~so that all takes care of 4 nights. The other 3 we just make something from what's in the frezzer. I am a vegetarian and he is not so sometimes it takes a bit of thinking to prep a meal. I hate to cook;(

He is on his own for breakfast and lunch, I stopped doing those meals years ago, when I realized I was in the kitchen almost all day fixing and cleanin' BLAH!

No not so much any more. I used to but now unless it is a special meal with the kids coming over, no I do not.
I usually have plenty of food on hand.

Nope, I tried doing menus, but most of the time whatever I had planned for a particular day just didn't sound good, so it ended up being a waste of time. I do keep a full freezer and extensive pantry at all times. I buy enough fresh veggies for about 4 days at a time. I cook 3 meals each day...well, 99.99% of the time. We prefer eating at home, that way we can limit fat, salt, etc. and it usually tastes better, too.

I do for the main meal only. It saves me from sending my DH out for some ingredient or other. I have a firm belief that the less time spent in or at the grocery store is a huge plus for my budget.

It's always my goal, but sadly, I seldom do it. Either we don't feel like what I planned, or the schedule changes and I don't have time to cook what was planned. Consequently, we end up eating unhealthy stuff more often than I'd like. :(
