Is Your New's Eve Menu Planned?

Is anyone having a New Year's Eve get together, if so what are you planning on having to eat? This is our menu so far.

Hot Dogs

Hamburgers

Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Buffet Potatoes

Baked Beans

Deviled Eggs

Relish Plate

Spinach Dip with Hawaiian Rolls

Fruit Pizza

Orange Punch

Soft Drinks (No alcohol)

I am not fixing all of this and there will be other things added to this menu.

No New Years eve planned for me, so I think I'll make potato salad and join your party, Sue. lol I like your menu so far.

Come on over Gadgets, Cheryl did say she would bring potato salad, I forgot to put that down! We can have two kinds of potato salad!

Angelaid, I love potato pancakes but I would say that is is my favourite version. There is no secret to making these pancakes. I've made them with mashed potatoes that I made specifically for making these pancakes and I've also made extra mashed potatoes for dinner and saved the leftovers for these pancakes. When I make them with the leftover mashed potatoes there is also butter in the mix. This is not a stiff or thick batter. I use a 1/4 cup measuring cup to scoop up the batter. Mere Blanc's Potato Pancakes From:www.thedailyspud.com with very minor changes. 2 small baking potatoes 1/4 cup milk 1/3 cup All-Purpose flour 2 eggs, separated 1-1/2 tablespoons heavy cream Pinch of salt Pepper Fresh chives (or green onions) Butter for frying Cook potatoes until tender Mash with a little milk. Let potatoes cool before adding the remaining milk, cream, flour, egg yolks, salt, pepper and chives. Beat Egg Whites until stiff. Fold into potato mixture. Do not over mix. This is a light but thick batter. Heat a griddle or skillet. ( I used a rectangle electric frying pan) . Brush with butter. Using a 1/4 cup measuring cup drop batter on to griddle. Terri, I love sparkling grape juice and we always have it at family dinners but I did not think to get some for tonight. Ann, I just happened to catch the Barefoot Contessa last week and she made the Green Goddess dressing. It just sounded so good to me...well anything with a c. of fresh basil suits me just fine! This is a very refreshing and just plain GOOD salad dressing. Basil Green Goddess Dressing 1 cup good mayonnaise 1 cup chopped scallions, white and green parts (6 to 7 scallions) 1 cup chopped fresh basil leaves 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (2 lemons and see My Note) 2 teaspoons chopped garlic (2 cloves) 2 teaspoons anchovy paste 2 teaspoons kosher salt (see note) 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1 cup sour cream Salad: 3 heads Bibb lettuce 2 to 3 tomatoes Place the mayonnaise, scallions, basil, lemon juice, garlic, anchovy paste, salt and pepper in a blender and blend until smooth. Add the sour cream and process just until blended. (If not using immediately, refrigerate the dressing until ready to serve.) Cut each head of lettuce into quarters, remove some of the cores, and arrange on 6 salad plates. Cut the tomatoes into wedges and add to the plates. Pour on the dressing and serve. NOTES: I did not add any salt to this recipe due to the anchovy paste. Also, I got a 1/4 c. juice from just half a lemon and a small lemon at that! Michelle

I work New Year's Eve and day, double time pay. Yeah!! In fact, I went through about half the year's schedule for 2008 and signed up to work every holiday and will finish once my last week of leave is approved. New Year's eve we are having a little "party" at work, basically eating chili and finger foods. I've never gone out for New Year's Eve, ever. When I was growing up we always had whole crab on New Year's day and stayed up till midnight the night before watching Dick Clark. Is he even doing it his show this year?

New Year's Eve if we are still awake we will wish each other Happy New Year. If we are asleep we will wake up as usual the next morning and wish each other Happy New Year. There will be fireworks in the neighborhood so most likely I will be snuggling with the dogs and holding Buddy in my lap. He is the one who is most afraid of the fireworks. For our New Years meal we will have hopping john, cornbread, turnip greens and whatever else anyone wants. Those three are must haves. Linda

I also for got to add brownies and cheese cake to my menu and Amber just called and said we always have a veggie pizza too, so that is added to the list also.

Going out to the local bar for a buffet, served by out deli and bar owner. No alchol for me, but avaiable for those who want it. Mostly neighbors Our local deli makes and sells products all over the state. Really good! Jut go and eat, not clean up etc.
Steak/lobster/rib eye steak/shrimp +homemade salads and alot of fun.

Nothing special planned for NYE, as we don't close our business still 6 p.m. but we are going to a New Years Day party. So much nicer than going out on the big night.

I be going to First Night. Probably will have an early seafood dinner on the wharf.That or stop at one of my favorite diners on the way over.

We usually have prime rib and crab legs, but not sure how we are going to fit it in this year.....I'm part of the committee putting on Celebration Johnstown so I will probably be working part of it. Our celebration is more or less a First Night but without paying the royalties.

We are having our Christmas, which Ma Nature butted into, on New Years Day, and I think it will be pretty much buffet stuff....ham, meatballs, scalloped potatoes, salads, cauliflower and broccoli bake.

Since our first NYE together in 1982, Dean and I have had surf & turf...rib-eye steaks and snow crab. I know he and Caryn were also talking about making home made clam chowder too. Not sure who will be joining us, but all the kids are always invited.

Usually, we stay home on New Year's eve but this year, we bought tickets to a dinner/dance. Good friends of ours are in the band, so it should be fun.

We usually just have a cold plate supper, cheese and crackers, beef and cream cheese rollups, chex mix, we stay home and watch movies. We are boring!

"Back in the day" DH and I had a social circle of 8-10 couples who always had a party on New Years Eve, hosted in the home of one or another of the couples.

Now there are few of those friends left, or able to be out and about. There hasn't been a NYE party for several years. I was talking with one of those friends last night about the good times we had and how we miss that and those folks who aren't with us now. Great memories!

Tradition calls for Black-eyed peas on New Years Day (and for some, cabbage also.) This year I am trying something new: Black-eyed Pea Soup, a recipe given to me by a neighbor. Hope it turns out good!
