I have a foam mattress from IKEA of all places that I love. Don't think I'd go down to queen size.....I like a lot of room .

Going down from king to queen will be quite an adjustment, only you know if you can deal with that. Sleep and comfort are so important, I personally would not sacrifice that for the look of the room.

I agree with mitchdesj and as long as a king fits and you're used to it, I wouldn't downsize. We have a king and whenever we stay in a hotel with a queen size bed I really feel the difference.

4 years ago, we downsized from a California King to a Queen and I have no regrets at all. Of course it was a little bit of an adjustment at first but not a bad one. It does make it easier to cuddle and/or to stay warmer in winter :c) It also made the room seem larger and bedding much easier to afford as well.

The mattress we bought was a mid range Simmons which has worn horribly and kills my back. To make matters worse it's a pillow top which ARE THE WORST. Whatever you choose, do not get a pillow top. This is our second one and I'm embarrassed to say I was suckered into one again after absolutely hating the first one we had. Stupid me.

We prefer the Original Mattress Factory mattress/box springs. Locally made at a great price.

we have a king and i would not want to go smaller again! i like my space since i tend to get hot when i sleep...king allows you to be as close as you want, but also allows you to get into your own space to cool off if necessary!

we have a 10 year old sterns and foster which i have really loved- it is not pillow top, tho i'm not sure of the model...

Loved our old S&F, but they are not made the same way anymore, alas.

Our new mattress is a Schiffman mattress (got it at Bloomies during a really good sale about a year ago, during triple rewards, so got back a bunch of $25 certificates as well). Ours is from their handmade line and is the firmest one they make (memory firm???--would have to look it up). It's "softened" up some in the past year (it was extremely "tight"/taut when it was first delivered). We use ours on a platform (no boxspring). Had we realized that the display mattresses feel as soft as they do, partly because of the boxsprings upon which they are displayed, we might have chosen a slightly less firm model. Again, it's not as hard as it was initially but, still quite firm. Using a nice thick mattress pads helps, too.

We rotated ours monthly for the first 6 months or so (as per instructions), but now rotate it every 3 months. It is a very heavy mattress, so keep that in mind with king size, which ours is. We figured we had one more king size mattress "in us" at our age! If/when we need to replace this mattress (which won't be for many years, we hope), we keep saying we will get two twins which would be a lot more manageable when it's time to rotate. Just something to keep in mind.

We have a queen and are quite comfortable. Two years ago we invested in a 100% latex mattress and love it! We also added a sheep's wool topper. No more neck or back pain and it does not sleep hot. We got it from Costco for $1100, but they no longer carry all latex mattresses, and similar mattresses cost about $2K. You can "build" your own with layers from foam-by-mail. We did this for our son's double and he likes it.

I just upgraded from a queen to a king and I love all the extra space.. would never go back unless the room really cannot fit a king (like, banging your shins constantly).

My DH's back hurt and he wanted a super expensive adjustable bed, but since Costco will take mattresses back, we ordered the Roseshore Firm from there. We love it! If it hadn't worked out for us I would have tried another Costco mattress because of that return policy. Mattresses are expensive and you don't want to be stuck with something uncomfortable. You can order from Costco.com and return to any store without being a member, I think you just pay something like 3% more.

We have a Queen and it is perfectly comfortable. The size works fine and the scale works much better for the room. We did spend a small fortune on a Hotel collection matress from macy's, but it has been a godsend. It's a spring mattress and such a wonderful change from a latex or foam one we've had in the past. No more sweaty nights!

We are both on the shorter side, so King is just too big for us when we stay in hotels. I tend to roll over into another ZIP code from DH.

OTOH, both of us had full when we were single, so Queen feels like a luxury compared to that. This is good because a King would not fit in our room.

We have a memory foam from Macy's. I would suggest checking out Macy's. They had a good selection of beds overall. I think we bought ours over July 4 sale which was one of the "lowest prices of the season" deals.

Felt like a taco mattress after a couple of years when both of us were in it. Fine with just one of us but awful for 2. We prefer queen even though we have plenty of room for king. Dh is large man, goes to sleep instantly and sleeps like a log. I like my space, prefer the middle of the bed (was probably a cat in a previous life), have trouble getting to sleep and wake frequently. In a queen bed, I was always uncomfortable, never had enough room, poor dh rather frequently got the elbow. We recently got a king size bed, and it feels so much larger than you would guess by mere inches. We're still getting used to it, but I wouldn't go back to a queen, no way, no how.

We have a king from The Original Mattress Factory. I like that their mattresses can be flipped. Many that are available these days can't be flipped. Ours doesn't have a pillow top. I can't imagine sleeping on a queen!

If you guys are smaller people, go with the queen mattress. If you are taller, like me (being over 6 feet tall), you have to go with the king. I have a California King Sealy Posturepedic and love it. A friend of mine has a Sleep Number bed, which allows you to dial in each side of the bed to that individual's preferred comfort level, and I must say, that bed is pretty awesome.
