The Bed: Supersize It
Maximize mattress territory for the ultimate in lounging and sleep space
I’ve read that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have a bed that can fit their entire family, which, as we all know, is quite the brood. That seems like a lot of kicking to me, but I have to admit that the idea of an extra large bed has always sounded luxurious. To that note, I’ve collected a few images of Houzz beds that appear deliciously roomy. What does everyone think? Would you indulge in a super spacious bed?
I bet it could take a full 10 minutes to roll across this bed. When your bed is this large, it’s best to keep the remainder of furnishings at a minimum so the space doesn’t feel crowded.
A common thing I’ve seen is pushing two double beds together. This is likely the most economical way of creating an extra large bed as you skirt the cost of a custom build.
One way to get around an early morning kick in the shins: The extra-large bed created from two doubles, each with its own set of linens. Okay, maybe you can’t stretch your legs to Timbuktu in this version, but at least you and your partner can still sleep “together” while still in your own spaces.
Long, narrow spaces are great for extra wide beds. I can see lots of lazy Sundays with cheesy Lifetime movies happening in this setup.
Custom made beds or even two doubles are clearly not a reality for everyone, but have no fear: There are standard sizes (think California king) that are still quite huge. I could sink into this bed just fine, thank you.
What beats a huge bed? A huge bed with a view. Sign me up.
Another one! Sigh. Where do these people live?
Note: Big beds need not always be so contemporary. This traditional bed is spacious, cozy and inviting. I am picturing Sunday mornings with the paper, a cup of coffee and a golden retriever curled at the foot of the bed.
If I were going to wake up to these serene setting every morning, there would simply be no getting out of bed. I love the vintage take on this big bed; coupled with chandeliers, this room is scrumptiously charming.
