Yesterday was an eventful day for me...

I started out at 8am to go to an advertised estate sale...I did good...here's my finds...I'm putting the chair in our bedroom cause that's where my DH sits and works most of the time. I collect carnival glass and English Biscuit barrels and landed a couple of pieces!! I got the chair for 25.00...tell me I didn't score big!! (shhhh...i paid more for the carnival glass piece then I did the chair...we wont tell hubster that now will we...LOL)

Then I went to the doc in the box at Walgreens to have a spider bite looked at...Tuesday evening I felt the bite but just thought it was a mosquito bite...well after 4 days the wound got really big and looking really bad...A woman in Atlanta this week lost her breast to a brown recluse bite...so I got a bit panicky...then when the doc at Walgreens said it was over her head and go IMMEDIATELY to the ER I went...there was a three hour wait...I'm coming back later cause yesterday was a block party at the Delta's general office and I really wanted my DS to see what fun it is to work for my company...Chick-Fillet was there giving away food by the tons...free beer, free cokes, free everything..a concert by Sister Hazel and a demo by the Olympic Trampoline team...I never knew we had an olympic trampoline team and wow!!! They were awesome!! They practice wearing ski's and by golly just watching them made me breathe faster...We got to see the plane we bought for the company and is now on permanent display and lots of other pieces of our history...it was an fun filled day...here we are with his honey sitting by the engine of the Spirit of Delta 767 we, the employees purchased in 1984!

I left to come home around 5 with the intentions of going straight to the ER...It was storming so figured I'd better stop by home and check on the doggies...Abby is deathly afraid of thunderstorms...I walked in and she's huddled up next to Alex...I fed them then off I went to the ER...

After a three hour wait I'm diagnosed as having been bitten by a spider/unknown kind...a big ole shot in my big ole you know where and another round of antibods and I should be good to go...that shot hurt like a mutha...but I must say the wound looks a whole lot better this morning...The staff at the ER were fab and kept apologizing for being so slow...they were just slammed and they did their best..I took a book and was more then fine sitting there waiting and people watching!

That was my fun filled day and I'm glad I don't do them very often cause this ole broad is one tard girl this morning!

I am glad you too had a fun filled day! However, not happy to hear you got an old spider bite. It is good you were able to have it looked after. You got some really nice buys also yesterday, I like the paw feet on the chair.

Funny thing I got bit by a spider on my breast Friday night when I was in bed. No pain but I took the top of it off to get the nasty stuff out and it has been bleeding. I am pretty sure mine was just a house spider bite. Usually they go for my eye lid. Glad you got yours looked at. Those shots are nasty and painful. LOL

That snow is melting fast (what snow!). Looks like you were milder than 5F which is great news for your palms! And now there should be some really nice weather heading all of our ways! Should get to 70F here on Thursday or at least close to it! Im taking out a lot of plants tomorrow to get a good soaking and to air out a little bit. Only a month away from bringing the more tender plants outside and the more cold tolerant plants (like the livistonas and oleanders) will be going outside starting tomorrow (and then they might go inside for that night we get to 28F on Friday but go back outside after that since no freezing weather is in the forecast after that!). Lucky day indeed! Both of your surprises sound great. I made the recipe below for the first time early last week. The comments in upper case are my notes, as is the three star Very Good note at the top. This is a vegetarian recipe, I just happened to have lamb shank meat left over from a restaurant dinner and thought it would be good in the recipe - it was. I don't think that using fresh tomatoes would add anything to this and the tomato juice from the canned ones was a good substitute for the water, although I did add a little more water at the end. The amount of hot smoked paprika that I used gave the dish a gentle kick - you don't need to use that. I do recommend increasing the ginger and cumin to one teaspoon each. I typed out all the fractions so you won't have to change the coding - wish GW would fix that. I think that the small halved eggplants that I used were a very good choice, no bitterness and brushing them with olive oil and lightly charring on a grill pan really added a nice flavor. I cooked this in a heavy stainless steel shallow skillet - covered most of the time but it would be perfect done in your new Le Creuset because it will maintain an even heat. I served it partly over a mix of brown rice and quinoa on dinner plates. I know you'll enjoy your new LC. Lee Eggplant Tagine ***VERY GOOD! Moroccan Stew of Eggplant and Olives Serves 4 Tagines are Moroccan gently simmered meat, fruit and vegetable dishes, flavoured with spices like garlic, cumin, ginger, pepper, saffron and turmeric. What curries are to India, Tajines are to Morocco and North Africa. * 3 tablespoons olive oil * 2 cups chopped onions * 3 cloves garlic, minced * 1 and a half teaspoons paprika USE one half t SMOKED HOT PAPRIKA AND 1t REGULAR SWEET PAPRIKA * one half teaspoon ground ginger USE 1t * one half teaspoon ground cumin seeds USE 1t * 6 plum tomatoes, chopped USE I SMALL CAN 14oz DICED TOMATOES AND JUICE * one half cup water ADD AS NEEDED TO GO WITH JUICE IN TOMATOES * a pinch saffron * 1 1 eggplant, cut into one half inch cubes USE 5-6 VERY SMALL ASIAN EGGPLANTS CUT IN HALF LENGTHWISE, BRUSHED WITH OLIVE OIL AND LIGHTLY CHARRED ON GRILL PAN * one quarter cup raisins * 1 cup greek-style green olives, pitted * to taste freshly ground salt and pepper * 1 cup cooked chickpeas (garbanzo beans) * one half lemon, sliced into 4 wedges * ADDED ABOUT 12 oz COOKED CUBED LAMB SHANK Directions In a heavy saucepan, heat the olive oil and the onions over medium heat. Saute the onions for 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Add the garlic, paprika, ginger and cumin and saute for 2 minutes longer. Add the tomatoes, water, saffron, eggplant, raisins, olives and salt and pepper. Turn the heat to low, and simmer the tagine for 30 minutes. Add the chickpeas to the vegetables. Taste, and adjust the seasonings. Serve in soup crocks over mounds of quinoa or couscous, with a lemon slice on each serving. That is old, but have had one older....35. She is not a very personable horse....she would rather be left alone, but I do think she appreciated me being with her her yesterday. Erin, have had trouble with my laptop, and typing on my phone is a pain. I will send you the other Bayou Tails as soon as I am up and running again. I am good at saying no, but possums have specific dietary requirements and most people won't raise them right and they get crippled and then they send them to me to save, and you can't. So I would rather take them and raise them right and be done with it. I have a mama possum and she is raising nine babies. All of mine are off the tube now and eating from a dish. Nickel, you asked how I started doing this....I guess you mean rehabbing wildlife. Not because I wanted to. I felt sorry for the babies. Also I get free food for my dogs, cats, and raccoons. I raised waterlilies and had two hundred varieties and to keep the raccoons out of my ponds, I fed them. I live in the boondocks on a bayou, and there are lots of raccoons here. who this going to rescue Marilyn? No one. I will probably die and the possums will eat me before anyone realizes I am gone. :)

Wow, LOVE the chair Liz!
What a great day you had, except for the spider bite of course. Glad it was nothing as major and scary as the one you were talking about.

Now that summer is getting here, on the news they're making people aware of ticks and Lyme disease. Scary stuff (and sometimes lethal) that bugs can carry.

Good you got that bite looked at, but don't you have "urgent care" places where you live? They are usually faster than the ER.

I know everyone LOVES your chair....but I your chair!

Sorry about the spider bite. I remember getting bitten in the neck once...no big deal, just swelled up to the size of a dime and went away. Hope yours is now cured.

Sorry you had to have the shot, but glad you went in. You have a good attitude- which is shown by you bringing a book and being understanding about the wait.

Glad you had a great day in spite of the spider bite.That was a GREAT deal on the chair.I have been looking for something like that but everyone here wants and arm and 2 legs for anything that looks that good.I'll fight Jamie for it!LOL
I have a deviled egg plate exactly like that one that was my grandmothers! I love that plate.We use it every Christmas for my DD's deviled eggs.

Glad you went to the ER for the spider bite. I've had that 2 times and had to get antibiotics both times. You just know that it's not just the usual bite that goes away quickly. I also read about the woman losing her breast to gangrene from the spider bite.

That chair is fabulous. What a great find and such a great price.

I went to our hospitals minor emergency center...I figured I'd leave the main ER for the bloodied and injured..the minor center was packed to the gills...there were two chairs left when I went in...they are soo nice and caring...I don't think I would have received that quality of care at the main ER...

The bite looks so much better now..the redness around it is all but gone except for at the wound..

I just took some soapy water to the chair...it looked clean until I started washing it...after it dried I polished it up with some leather cleaner/conditioner and it looks mighty fine...

Jamie and Lillie...come on over...I'll let you sit in it for a quarter..and I've wanted a deviled egg holder besides the tupperware one for years...I make them for every cookout! LOL

I also like that picture of you and the "kids." That must have been a real fun party.

About that bite, isn't it hard to decide whether to go in or wait it out. I usually figure it will heal -- until the weekend, when it is even harder to get in. I'm glad you had it checked and no matter what kind, it sounds like it needed attention.

You sure had an adventure packed day!

C'mon, you can tell us. No way did you buy that beautiful chair for $25! Oh...you DID? Wow! I may have to start going to sales.

DH had a pinprick while trimming a shrub one summer. He never saw the spider, but a few hours later he had a large red swelling on his arm. I called our doc and described the 'bulls-eye' bite. He said to ignore it -- just a spider bite, blah, blah, blah. I called the poison hotline and THEY said he should be seen. I called the entomology department at the Field Museum and that man said not to wait a minute, to GO and get started on antibiotics.

Even with antibiotics the tissue around the bite turned black and died -- about the size of a fifty cent piece. Finally it sloughed off and new tissue grew to fill in the cavity. In about six weeks it was healing nicely. We don't live in 'brown recluse' territory, but bugs can hitch rides and turn up anywhere! Spiders may be small, but they can make you darn sick.

oh Kat!!...the foot is all healed...I broke it on March 15th and I went back to work April 18th...I wore the boot cast for three weeks and stayed on the couch and only took it off to shower...In three weeks I went back to the doc and he couldn't even believe I was healed or healed enough to go back to work...He says I heal faster then any other patient he has...and he said it was as healed as it was gonna be and I didn't even need PT...so I was thrilled...I don't like or have time for lounging around!!

I've had enough injuries for the decade...(and if you tell I'll bop you one!!)

This spider bite is about the size of a pencil eraser and about that deep...it's gonna leave a nasty ole scar and I HATE HATE HATE these antibods...they make me sooo nauseous and puky for about an hour after I take them...but the alternative is a whole lot worse...I'm glad I went when I did...
