I have a pretty white/iron daybed in my living room...which is actually my office. (The sofas are in the family room, with the TV.) We needed something in front of the big bay window and if I have to watch the phones early in the morning, it's nice to lie down and read a book...also great for a place to sit back (feet up) have a cup of tea and watch the snow fall. My mom used twin beds with bolsters in our rec room (as kids) and they were great. The trick is to have enough bolster and back pillows, to make the seating depth the same as a sofa. Easy to remove, if you need guest room space :)

Wrong?? No Way! Whatever suits your room, your style, and your comfort requirements is the right thing for you to do. In the Fall/Winter I use a comforter with my sheets and blanket and use it for cover as well as to do my room pretty with shams and throw pillows. Some people love their comforter year round but remove it at night to sleep in the warmer months. That works too. My Bedroom isn't nearly this intense gold and my drapes are a golden beige, but this is about how my room looks with comforter during the cooler part of the year... Years ago, I used a duvet, which is like a giant pillowcase for your comforter. The duvet changes the look of the room in an instant, and can usually be washed so that the comforter is protected. If you get one that fits right, they are great. If you don't like fussing around to make your bed, since trying to arrange a big comforter attractively in it's 'cover' can be a little frustrating, then, maybe a duvet isn't for you. We bought a white wrought iron day bed with a back and a pop-up trundle for my DD when she outgrew her crib. We pulled the trundle out but left it in the lower position in case she fell out of bed. Sometimes we'd check on her in the morning and find her sleeping on the lower mattress. That was her primary bed and bedroom for a few years until we put on our addition and added an extra bedroom, then it became the guest room. Over the years we've had many people sleep in the daybed - from kids on sleepovers, to my brother and his wife when they visited for a week, to my parents who lived with us for a while and since Mom couldn't manage the stairs we took it apart and brought it downstairs and put it in the study for a month. Everyone said they were comfortable and of course buying good mattresses is important. No one seemed to care if they slept on the daybed that had a back or the pop-up trundle that didn't. It was only used occasionally for sitting and we had enough pillows to make it comfortable. I never had problems making the bed - it's only twin size so I could easily put the sheets on. It did take a little longer to tuck the comforter down in the back behind the bed - the back had an open railing just above the mattress and I liked to push the comforter through so that the design was centered. I even had a dust ruffle which covered the trundle and it didn't get in the way when pulling the trundle out. And so I guess my daybed has come full circle - DD bought her first house in Philly a few months ago and she asked if she could have it for one of her guest rooms. If DH and I ever spend the night we can sleep in the daybed - her other empty bedroom has a double bed. This isn't the one I have but it looks similar - and you can see why I used a dust ruffle to cover the trundle. Not all of them have a pop-up trundle but I picked one that did so that the beds would be the same height when in use. I bought my son a daybed when he was ..16 I guess? And he saw it as a huge upgrade and said "oh wow it's so grown up!" I must say though that my son is easy to please, in many instances. It's twin btw He's a thin boy, medium height, now he's 19, and it's good enough for both him and girllfriend when they come for a break from college. The girlfriend is slightly taller than him) (just to add -not that you need that info-that first time her visiting, it was a guest room for a young lady..then the request was put in..then I said she should clear it up with her parents..ok you get the picture-the bed is big and comfortable enough)) With daybed you control the mattress same as with regular bed, which is cool, 'cause frankly I'm very glad I got ours on huge sale, they wanted 1200$ or so for the bed that I with lots of patient waiting was able to buy for 400$-and let me tell you, 400$ reflects its quality more..Or so I think. But it looks good, and holds the mattress, Ours is from West Elm. It doesn't have the trundle so it's normal height We have another daybed with a trundle in a guest room, that one is higher. It's somehow very cool to fall asleep on, (unless one is elderly and it's too high and then I use a trundle if needed) but I wouldn't say it prompts one to use it more like a sofa. While lower daybed does. As for making the bed-all my childhood I would strip the bedding off in the morning, make the sofa bed look like a sofa, and pretty one too (my Grandma had a whole system I had to follow) , then put all the bedding back at night. Both me and my brother's bed . And on school breaks, I had to do the same for rest of sleeping spaces in the house.. We didn't have dedicated bedrooms with beds that looked like beds, so there you go. Matter of minutes, really. I agree that with bunk beds, it's harder. Well to me it's harder-I'm a small woman who doesn't like to climb anymore))
