Painting new T&G pine ceiling
Comments (4)OK, we used the Zinsser BIN primer as directed. It went on well and none of the knots have bled at all. The problem now is that priming made the blemishes in the wood more visible. I'm not talking about the knots, but the knot holes that we didn't even notice at all before, and gaps between boards that were also previously invisible. I don't mind the natural texture of the wood--that's why I installed this type of ceiling--but some of the holes go straight through to the insulation above! Clearly I need to fill these holes with something. My question is what filler should I use to blend in with the texture of the wood? It will all be painted white, so the color doesn't matter, just the texture....See MoreWhat color should I stain tongue and groove porch ceiling?
Comments (1)Hi Lola! Depends in part on what specie/color of wood you used..... That looks like pine so you could probably use a clear oil like Messmer's UV+ and accomplish the same thing. It will darken the wood a little bit and bring out/maintain the natural colors. If you have any boards left over, to get a very specific color, have the person who will be applying it for you create a couple samples and test it on small swatches until you find the one you're looking for. Best of luck and let it know how it works out! https://www.soluslumber.com/shop/supplies/deck-seals-oils-finish/...See MoreElectrical in T&G ceiling with no attic
Comments (18)I don't think the foam layers are "applied" (e.g., glued) to anything, I think they're just sitting there. But I only briefly was able to capture this pic a few years ago when they were installing new skylights when roof was being redone, thought it may come in handy one day to have a pic of what is going on between roof and T&G. Re: jamming some PVC in there I'm not sure if it would get hung up on that foam as you're trying to push it and the opening to push the PVC through would only be the size of a junction box which would be a severe angle. I'm thinking new junction boxes would probably go about 6'-8' from existing junction boxes so perhaps not a long span. Adding more fixtures in the same area is what is needed. There is a 1/2 bath and coat closet floating in the room (goes up to ceiling) that I plan on removing as part of a kitchen remodel which means those areas will need light fixtures which don't exist, can be tied into existing circuit running up there. It's just that there are far too few lights in the giant open concept. I'm just thinking someone else must have crossed this bridge who has a vaulted T&G ceiling with no attic and needed to add more junction boxes/lights in the ceiling....See MorePaint and floor suggestion for Pine T&G ceiling
Comments (8)Laura, I'm just seeing your post and realize it was years ago, but I'm curious as to what you decided to go with in regards to the flooring. We have a similar tongue and groove "yellowed" pine ceiling, darker stained trim throughout so NO interest in the time and money to "change" those. Our flooring is what we are looking at right now. Did you have the planks go the same direction as the ceiling? What "species" and stain did you decide on your flooring. We are looking into floating LV options....See Morefnmroberts
