When I build cathedral ceiling cabana's and pavilions for my pools I use T111 turned upside down for the price conscious buyers or 116 pattern V-groove cedar or #1 pine then stain/seal it when price isn't really the issue. Here are some pic's, during construction, of the pavilion by my pool. When they get really large I stop the standard hip/ridge/jacks/common rafters with decking going left to right and use hip/ridge/mini beams from hip to hip across a common and run the decking up and down. This 116 pattern is a 1x6 tongue and groove. Using a 7/8" roofing nail it doesn't come through. It doesn't come through on 5/8" T111 when using an architectural shingle, with a 3 tab shingle on T111 it slightly pokes the nail tip out. I am reading this thread and working on a porch ceiling too. I like this color and would love to know what is shown in the photo and what stain she decided to go with!! Any answers? The wood is pine and I’m leaning towards Golden Oak or possibly Mountain Ash by SW for a hint of gray. Let me know if anyone has suggestions!! Appreciate the help!

We have a beautiful elk antler chandelier and thinking about where to install in the new house ... great room is obvious choice. We could hang it from the middle beam in the room - other opinions? Here is a pic. Size is approx. 42" side-to-side and it is about 28" high ... without the chain. In this picture we don't have a very high ceiling in the entry so had to squish it close to the beam.. Once: You'll either have too much going on with a visually busy floor, visually busy ceiling that's cut up with visually busy beams or you'll have a compete disconnect between your floor color and ceiling color. Or both. Probably both. Twice: you are introducing too many elements that you (or your husband) like individually but that don't relate well to each other. It's going to overwhelm the senses and feel disjointed. Seems the third time was the charm: You are stuck in the unfortunate spot of selecting things that appeal to you individually, but that do not at all work well together. You need some big picture help. Your cabinets are installed. That is your basis for everything else. In the pictures they do not look like the color from the mfg website that you showed but that's not surprising. Regardless, they are lovely. Your counter choice is beautiful but look here.... do you see what's happening? These are pictures on monitors where colors are never true, not real life but this is the beginning of trouble. and not inexpensive I can fix it with a coat of paint trouble. That stone is costly - are you obligated to it? Wait for your designer next week. I'd recommend totally stepping away from this and stop trying to come up with *the thing* that's going to tie this all together. Hopefully the only thing that's a done deal is the cabinets and if anything else is pending, stop it while you can.
