T&G pine walls question
Comments (1)Well...if you give it one more touch with the sander and then finish with a nonyellowing waterborne sealer or polyurethane, that might do it. Any filmforming finish will have a small effect on the wood's appearance. Simply wetting a small area with water can give you a look at what to expect. Nonyellowing waterborne finishes come in several gloss levels. Were you to want to use one of those, you would choose the gloss level you would find most pleasing. Same thing goes for the flooring....See MorePainting new T&G pine ceiling
Comments (4)OK, we used the Zinsser BIN primer as directed. It went on well and none of the knots have bled at all. The problem now is that priming made the blemishes in the wood more visible. I'm not talking about the knots, but the knot holes that we didn't even notice at all before, and gaps between boards that were also previously invisible. I don't mind the natural texture of the wood--that's why I installed this type of ceiling--but some of the holes go straight through to the insulation above! Clearly I need to fill these holes with something. My question is what filler should I use to blend in with the texture of the wood? It will all be painted white, so the color doesn't matter, just the texture....See MoreHas Anyone Used PreFinished Engineered Flooring for T&G Ceiling?
Comments (2)T&G prefinished flooring isn't usually available in long lengths. That means there'll be seams at the ends of the boards making it look like a floor on the ceiling. Paint grade t&g, usually bead board, is often available in 12' and 16' lengths eliminating or at least reducing the number of end seams. It might be possible to get flooring in long lengths but it'll be expensive....See MoreHas anyone whitewashed T&G ceilings?
Comments (8)This has been my conundrum for the past several weeks. Everyone says not to cover up wood, but I went against the status quo and am painting it white. Please don't hate me everyone and say mean things! I've already had that done to me. I've looked long and hard at pics that resembled what it would look like leaving it alone and painting it. I think it comes down to the look and feel that you are trying to accomplish. We stained the beams a dark walnut color and are in the middle of painting the ceiling now. We are priming it first and then will apply a ceiling white. For me, the decision was based on having too much wood in the house and making me feel like I was living in a VRBO mountain cabin in Aspen. Not like that is a bad thing, but I wanted a more light, airy feeling, than to be in a cliche mountain cabin. We will be having hardwood throughout the living room, kitchen and dining room, hallway. All interior doors will be wood with hardwood blinds and trim. All trim/doors will be the same as the beams....See MorePugga70
