help with final finishes/selections, please!
Comments (4)That's a tough one. I think it's easy to keep adding the color and maybe overdoing it, but I also don't think anyone would question it or think it was at all ill-advised if they walked in and you also had it on the fridge wall. If you do any on that wall, I would do the whole thing, though, so it doesn't get spotty and contrived looking. I think what I'd use to make the decision is what you want to see on that wall, white or dark, since it's large and seen from other rooms and is right in a walk-through area. The other thing you could do is the island and fridge wall in that color and the baking center in another color, like dove gray, black, red, yellow, blue (any number of shades), light wood...the options are endless, depending on the mood you want....See MorePlease help with choosing colours and finishes for kitchen X-post
Comments (3)Jujubean71, Thanks for your comments. The bakay Cinza is the colour that was photographed (the rectangle that is sitting on the big cabinet door). We will not be using marble. The photo was taken outside on my natural stone step (in other words the marble you saw was my stone step LOL). GWlolo, Thanks for your help. The reason for blue for the hood is I love blue. I've decided the hood is going to be a focal point so I need it to be visually pleasing. I am not trying to make the hood disappear, I don't think it is possible so I might as well accept that and design a beautiful hood. Plain stainless hoods come across as too sterile and modern for me. We are planning on pure white (SW colour) for our ceiling (or maybe mix a tiny bit of the wall colour into the pure white from SW). The trim will also be the SW pure white colour. I believe we can get the hood makers to colour match the blue from the wall rather than have a competing blue. Comments (6)My favorite paint colors are Behr Honey Infusion, Behr Honied White and Behr Yucca White. Honey Infusion is a great yellow based neutral which worked to lighten up a red and brown guest room. Honied white was used after the walls were painted with Killz twice to lighten up a bedroom in med blue and puke green. Yucca White was used on the master bedroom gray headboard wall after it had been Killz....See MorePlease help with 2nd Floor Laundry Room Design
Comments (24)I love our laundry chute, but note the last paragraph of the above cited Bob Vila article. Local codes might ban them as a fire hazard. Just check and be sure! Funny story...I had a friend who remodeled her 1920s home and closed up the first floor chute opening. She kept the one from her second floor down to the basement laundry room. She was doing laundry for a trip and threw all her “good” clothes down the chute to launder. They got hung up somewhere between the second floor and the basement! What to do? She called the fire department. They came with hook and ladder truck, firehats, etc. And pikes. Yup. They reached up from the basement and pulled all her clothing down....shredding it beyond redemption! Lesson learned! One. Item. At. A.Time!...See MoreUser
