how about i give you the stupidest answer ... dig a freakin hole and find out ... jeez ... water your hosta.. and water a clear spot to the side ... when you think you are all done ... get the shovel.. and dig the clear spot ... AND FIND OUT HOW THE WATER MOVED IN YOUR SOIL ... if your 5 minutes.. gave water down to a depth sufficient for a happy hosta.. you win ... if you come to find out.. you barely got one inch deep.. you need to apply more water ... makes sense??? it took me 2 years with my drip iriigation.. to figure out.. that NO ONE could tell me.. on my soil.. in my yard.. how water moves thru MY soil ... in my irritation.. as i was sulking back to the house cursing.. i seem to recall hitting myself in the head with my shovel .. when it dawned on me.. and i will yell? ONLY I CAN DIG A HOLE IN MY GARDEN AND FIND OUT WHERE THE WATER IS GOING ... thereafter.. it was pretty simple to figure out how long to water ... to get it deep enough for the hosta to appreciate it ... there!!!.. thats your glittering jewel of wisdom for the weekend.. lol ken ps: the only dumb or stupid question.. is the UNasked question.. i for one.. appreciate a quest for learning ... shows you are thinking.. and thats what keep you going ... dont you think ... now go dig a hole ...

"Just throwing out a totally contrarian idea - is this closet on an inside wall? If so, could you go in from the other side to create a second closet or built in shelves?" Not contrary at all, IMO. That was the first idea I considered - just go ahead and make the closet into a small reach-in closet. But... the other side would open into the hallway instead of the bedroom, so I'd completely lose the space as "master closet." It could make for a deep broom/cleaning closet, which would be an asset. But I'd also have to move the doorbell and thermostat, which would make it into a much bigger and more expensive project than I feel like undertaking 5 days before I move in. There is a spacious coat closet in the hall nearby and some built-in 14" deep cabinetry for linens which isn't big enough for comforters but is more than I need for sheets and towels. Plus it's just me in a 3 bedroom house (plus finished basement) and I don't keep much stuff around. I'm not shy for storage space anywhere else, but I do want a functional closet in the master bedroom. Stumbling all over the house trying to get dressed at 4:30am is not my idea of efficient. I am NOT a morning person and I have to make it easy on myself. :) Okay, here's a radical idea. What if instead of shelves behind, I had another clothing rod? I do primarily need hanging space, and I can rotate winter/summer that can't be hung up into one of the other closets. Then the back rod would be for the funeral suit, long dresses, off-season, etc. that I planned to put in the hall closet or on the shelves. Also a pain to get to, but still very infrequently used. I'm not sure it's progress. Maybe what I really need is 4 closet rods on a thing that rotates vertically... so you push the rod(s) in front down and they rotate to the back and up, and the rod(s) at the top and back move to the front. I could build it if I could just find heavy duty 4' lazy susans I could mount vertically and bolt swiveling closet poles to...

Personally, No. But I'm not a "disaster" person. Although we have a TV & computer, I just got around to reading what happened to Bin Ladin in the newspaper last nite,..& didn't go on to Page 2... so I was already a couple days late. I guess I'll have to check up on the Civil War soon. BTW, I'm old enough to remember the time-gone-by when people argued heartily over whether Hitler was REALLY dead, or had he escaped to Argentina and was living the Good Life. After all, his body was never found. Or the Russians had it. Or something.

My husband and I have a TV den upstairs next to our bedroom (designated a small bedroom), and it's great. I absolutely did not want a TV in the living room because it would be in the way, we don't do TV as a social activity, and it would be unsightly and anachronistic in our Victorian AF main floor. We also did not want a TV in the bedroom because we've just never been into that and it's terrible for sleep hygiene. My aunt and uncle had a bedroom TV for ages but ditched it when they moved to their new house. Having the TV den upstairs near our bedroom has been great - you can retire to upstairs and watch TV/play video games before bed but not IN bed. And we'll stick with one TV. There are enough old coax cables on our house to put a TV in every room (previous owner was obsessed with TV, I guess?) but I couldn't imagine. I don't even like TV that much.
