No, I would not watch it. I am convinced he's dead. I also heard there were photographs but I don't want to see them either. I remember years ago, when John Lennon was killed, and one newspaper put a photo of his dead body on the cover. Got a lot of flack, no Pulitzer prize.

Absolutely not

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Barter could be a great thing for the common citizen. I injoyed the few local exchanges I've attended over the years. Were my plate not full already,I would love attempting to establishing a first Sat morn exchange at the nearby farmer's market. If you all are referring to Keurig,we have used one since Christmas. We toss them into empty 2 LB coffee containers that I saved in the past. Occasionaly I empty several by ripping away the foil cover and plunging needle nose pliers to the bottom and pulling out both, filter and coffee. I normally have enough material but here is how I handle the waste veggies from the supermarket when I need them. I carry a step ladder,an open top 55 gal barrel, rubber gloves and a trash pick-up tool in the truck when going shopping. As I leave the market I pull by the dumpster. 90% of the produce waste is in wood shipping crates and if not covered very deep can be pulled to where I can grip with my hand and remove from dumpster. Everone understands that part but what about being questioned about the act? I say that I'm aware they don't give the stuff away and I plan leaving the place as clean as I found it. Were anyone to start non-sense about liability of me becomeing sick from eating it,I will show them the groceries and recept to set them at ease. I only had to deal with that issue a few times in 30 years. The employee never pushed the thing except one time. I didn't remove any more nor put any back when she threatened calling the cops. I apoligized for upsetting her then left. Were the police ever involved and gave me a ticket,I plan asking for a jury trial. I fully expect the city would drop it but if a jury found me guilty,I've had worse happen. I know some would be crushed over a scolding for dumpeter diving but I have fairly thick skin plus a real dislike for how liability is over the top and become a monkey on our back at every turn. Does anyone believe a street person can get a judgement against a store because he ate spoiled food from their dumpster? That's why the manager can't invite you to take the stuff but isn't likly to prosicute you for taking it without permission. Just don't create a mess, that's mostly why dumpster diving is frowned on.

How do you make mini-bins out of coffee cans
Q
Comments (20)
For what it's worth, I think a rotational system with associated rotational harvesting is a good idea, BUT... one would have to have the room for all of the bins. This is an excellent concept for mathematical modeling. That is not to suggest that such modeling would represent broad-scale reality, but rather that one could get an idea of the elements that would need 'focus'. For example: If you wanted to start your rotating system with 26 'bins', and you wanted to harvest on a two-week interval and you wanted to start harvesting in 2 weeks after start up, you would need 26 lbs of worms. That's a lot of worms. At $25 per pound - a common rate for a pound of worms - that's $650 start up costs just for the worms. If on the other hand, you wanted to start with one pound of worms, but end up with 26 bins, each with one pound of worms "working", then you would have to take the surplus from the first bin and put it in the second bin. If you got half a pound of worms in two weeks from an initial one pound, it would take four weeks to get the second bin to 1 pound of worms. (However, since you'd be adding worms at two weeks from the first bin, the time to get to one pound would be shorter. However, since you were only harvesting at two week intervals, you have a "discrete" component, and your rotational cycle would be constrained by that discrete component.) Then, you'd have two bins, each with one pound of worms producing half a pound of worms every two weeks so the third bin could have one pound of worms only one week after the second bin had its one pound of worms. THEN, the fourth bin would be started, and once it was 'cooking', you could start adding multiple bins at each two week interval. Hence the mathematical modeling comment. As with all models - mathematical and otherwise - there are critical elements. The most important of which are: 1) "initial conditions" - like how many bins are you starting with, 2) "production per unit time" - like the half a pound of worms per week. 3) "harvest of surplus" - how many are going to be harvested - not put back in the system - per interval of time. And so on... Again, I'm NOT suggesting that the output of such a model would represent reality for every wormer, but rather that the exercise could inform one of the significant components and, once those factors were known (empirically), what would happen in the system if/when hose factors were changed. Such a model would likely have a very narrow scope of application as there are so many factors that effect worm production. Unless one was willing - and able - to reproduce the exact conditions and procedures under which the model was developed, it is unlikely that the model would 'translate' to other locales and "systems". The original post was quite some time ago, and the topic has drifted a bit. Shouldn't this be a new thread? Paul

worm bin sos? (and, do i have aliens in my worm bin, or bsf?)
Q
Comments (1)
I am fairly new to worms myself, but it sounds you're doing the right thing for the moisture. It probally just needs a little time. The critters a probally BSF. As long as the bin is outside, you'll probally have them. I pick them out and feed to my Chickens. They are not supposed to harm the worms, though they appear as if they would. Since the adult fly doesn't like being inside, if you move the bin back inside you might find after one cycle the larvae are gone.

Do you watch the lightning during storms?
Q
Comments (28)
i love storms and being in the lightning capitol along the I-4 corridor of orlando, we see more lightning than anywhere in this country. i do unfortunately have a dog that stresses out about storms thou and every few weeks our power does go out for several hrs from our daily pounding storms from may-nov. i have been standing at the kitchen window when my neighbors backyard trees were hit, that was a bit startling. i can't tell you how many electronic things we've lost to lightning damage thru phone lines, cable and once a direct hit to our fence that was anchored to the house via screws. i do still like watching it thou(from inside only!), we get such huge bolts and many w/ massive branching patterns. thurs. i was driving home from work sitting at a red light when 4 bolts struck all at the same time in front of me :-) of course all that lightning caused traffic signals to go out in an area w/ 6 lanes of traffic in ea direction LOL plus 2 trees atleast 30' tall also came down in the roadways along my 8 mi drive home....regular events here in rain season. we just had our late afternoon storms roll thru and per hour cloud to ground srikes were over 2400. not an extreme amount for us but nowhere else even sees that in a single day. there rarely is a day that goes by in rain season, w/o a house being struck and most often burns to the ground. about once a month someone is struck by lightning here in central FL. a rare strike on a car happened last fri along merrit island. i love lightning but from inside and safe only! ~ liz Here is a link that might be useful: lightning research in FL

I know if it's shown on tv, it will be everywhere. I personally prefer not to watch. I do understand those who do. I suppose it's similar to those who want to witness a killer on death row get his due. Justice for all. I think I'm just concerned about the retaliation.

I wonder just how long it will be before emails start circulatingstating that he is not dead and it was all just a conspiracy to say he was, or some such thing....like we never landed on the moon and other such absurd emails.

I would not like to see it, but I imagine there are those that would have to see it before they would believe it, and even then they would question if the picture was really him....iykwim.

Yes, I would watch. It's a monumental piece of American history, whether you agree with it or not. Al-Q had a good old time watching the twin towers fall. This is my "twin towers". Besides, it can't be any worse than watching law and order or any cop show. I would like to see our American heroes in action.

I'll watch it if it comes out. It doesn't matter to me if it is released right away or not. I would also have been ok if they had waited a number of years to release it like they di JFK's autopsy pics.

I'd probably look at a pic of him dead. I feel very relieved that justice has been served and that he will not murder anyone else.
What I do NOT want to see is a video of his 'funeral service'. I feel he did not deserve ANY honor or respect, but that's just me.

I believe he is dead, but the nay-sayers are in full swing. These people watch too much TV. I don't think our govt would be able to orchestrate such a fraud even if they wanted to.

the MLK quote above was not totally his words from what I understand. (I looked it up also) Might want to take out the first sentence.

I would watch once. Then decide from there if I'd watch it again. I NEVER 100% believe the news. If I can see something tho, I may find the truth on my own. I don't want to watch the gory details really, just the complete picture.

I believe that he is dead, not a doubt in my mind. I would not watch it, I take no delight in death, not his nor that of any living creature. We had a twilight candle service at the United 93 site last evening, quiet tears were shed. The wounds are still very raw for so many.

Sure, I'd watch it. It's a part of history. Most people love to see that stuff. How many people were glued to their sets watching the Zapruder film over and over again, or the Challenger blow up, or the World Trade Center towers both hit by the planes and eventually fall, or the rubble at the Pentagon? Or Reagan/Brady, etc shooting? How many people were glued to their sets when a hurricane or tornado goes through and destroys and kills? Seems to me, they've been getting posted on this very forum lately. Many, if not most people clearly have an infatuation with death and want to see it both in fiction (books, movies & TV) and non-fiction. People were glued to their sets over the gory details of Nicole & Ron being butchered. They run to funeral homes to look at dead bodies in boxes. And of course the video of Sadaam Hussein's hanging went viral too as I recall.

I can understand why someone would not want to watch it. It could be troubling. And I totally agree to not give any sort of honor to his death or burial/disposal.

Where I have a problem is people calling it "justice". To me, that was not justice. Seldom, do people truly receive "justice" IMO. I think people are quick to write things off and call it "closure". As someone whose godson died in Iraq, I don't take satisfaction that there's justice here. I hold people responsible. I accept at this point that Bin Laden was behind the 9/11 incident, but there's also a President who was too busy giving tax breaks to his oil buddies and then claimed there wasn't enough money to give body armor to the kids he sent to fight a war with a country that didn't attack us. He was also too busy giving contracts to a favored company related to his running mate so there wasn't money to armor the Hummers. Had those been done, Mickey could easily be alive. I don't feel there will ever be "justice" for that young boy.

President Bush is being praised even by members of the current government saying it was because he put it all into action and because interrogation under his term led to the first little bit of info that started this capture. Many members of the current staff have called and thanked him and said they remember and appreciate his part. Remember that not everything you read on these boards no matter how lengthy and desk banging they seem to be, are not necessarily the truth.

I'd watch. I wouldn't take delight in it; that's barbaric and would put me close to his level (given the delight he took in watching 3000+ people die - at his direction). So no, I wouldn't enjoy it, but I wouldn't mind seeing it happen so I would observe it rather than just hear about it.

Personally, No. But I'm not a "disaster" person. Although we have a TV & computer, I just got around to reading what happened to Bin Ladin in the newspaper last nite,..& didn't go on to Page 2... so I was already a couple days late. I guess I'll have to check up on the Civil War soon.

BTW, I'm old enough to remember the time-gone-by when people argued heartily over whether Hitler was REALLY dead, or had he escaped to Argentina and was living the Good Life. After all, his body was never found. Or the Russians had it. Or something.
sue_va

Yes, I would watch it. I don't have to see it to believe it is true. If it weren't true Bin Ladin would already be out refuting it.

I don't need to see the body, but it wouldn't bother me to see it. What I would like to know, and see, are the logistics of how it was carried out. Such a well planned maneuver.

The Navy Seals are not heard of often in the news; it would be interesting to know more about their training for this. I heard that the shooter would not be identified any time in the immediate future.

Yes, I would watch. I am glad he is gone. I want to judge for myself if it is real. I probably could not tell, but you never know. I do not trust government to always tell the truth.
