I got a great chuckle from my girlfriend today.....

My girlfriend and her DH left out this morning with their boat in tow to go fishing in Louisiana. In Shreveport, their boat trailer had a flat. Luckily, they had a spare.

Off they go.

Somewhere in between zilch and no where, they had another flat, this time on the other side of the trailer.

Oh my.

My friend stays behind with the boat and trailer while her DH takes the truck to go find a new tire.

So here she sits, on the side of a major interstate, sitting in a boat, with a trailer flattened on one side, reading her book waiting for DH to return.

Here comes the state patrol. Lights flashing. Here sits friend in boat, on interstate, reading her book without a worry in the world.

I am already rolling with laughter as she tells me this story, as the police are still there with her.

By now DH shows up, and his first comment out of the truck is, boy I can't leave you anywhere without you getting in trouble.

I am falling over laughing. So is she.

Seems, no one wanted to stop to help, but several calls were made to 911 to report a women reading a book in a boat by herself, on the interstate.

I told her she should have grabbed a rod and reel and thrown a line out onto the freeway. Now THAT would have been a good one!!

Ahhhh.....some people have all the fun.

Me, three. One box of 16 ... box 2 of 2, it said. I hope box 1 arrives today. All of them are healthy and green, and many of them have buds. I'll be out in the greenhouse later this morning, putting them into gallon pots. The roses I ordered are mostly old HTs and Pernetianas. I plan to shuffle things around so the front HT beds only contain roses introduced before WWII. This is a sheltered spot, easy to tend, and convenient to spray ... which is a consideration with all those Pernet roses going into it. There's nothing like the sight of a box of roses on the porch to brighten one's day. Connie

Hi!! new to posting here, but I am sharing your frustration over GSTs. I just ordered 3 more from Shady Oaks, and two bit it by the time I got up this morning. I thought maybe a tiny spider was getting the one itty bitty, but I couldnt see too well, but it may have been another cat I saw balled up over him. Thinking it was a spider, I swatted it away. So I have one lone cat left, just like last time. The last one got really big, and I guess he finally wandered off to pupate. But he sure didnt move much. So I will watch the one ittbitty. I did get some really huge PVSTs. I have never seen one! I really hope they pupate alright. And after being so sad over not getting any BSTs on my very lush fennel, I ordered some along with this order, and presto! new hatched cats! Oh and GF when just hatched look like short little yellow strings. Then they get red. I watch them munching out my kitchen window.The funny thing also is my mom thought I was insane when I started getting into this, so that my then 5 yo son could see the lifecycle, after awhile, and taking her to Shady oaks for the tour, she absolutley loves it too now. well butterworts are easier because they dont have long tentacles. I pretty much put the plants stalk between my index and middle finger with my right hand (ontop) and then use my left hand on the base of the pot. I give it a couple of soft sudden shakes until the soil moves out the pot into my hand in the shape of the pot. Because the plant is sticking between my middle and index finger not to much gets on it. I then turn it upright and carefully remove excess peat from the sides, careful not to go near the roots. I always have left some old peat on the roots then simply pot the plant in the new pot (I make a hole in the new peat to sink it into) I too have issues with getting perlite and peat on the leaves sometimes, I normally carefully take off the big chunks of stuff with tweezers, I then use a toothpick to carefully nock off the rest if needed. If you had to wash the plant off with distilled water it would certainly not kill it, I mean they live in bogs, it may loose its dew for a day or 2 but should recover perfectly. I know my P. Primuflora dont mind flooding at all, I always water mine from the top and they love it, so no worries with that. I know what you mean about the distilled water, running back and forth to albertons spending about $2.00 per 1.9 gallons was becoming a pain in the butt, these cool toys have become a real life saver. About how not to get dew everywhere, well that one I have never managed, lol, my hands always need a good wash afterwards, just try to keep the dewy leaves above your fingers and your hand under around the stalk to support it when it falls out of the pot. I suppose you could even use some clear saran wrap, remove all sphagnum moss, put the saran wrap on the top covering the whole top surface of the peat moss, then put your hand ontop and pop it out. This would stop peat soil falling to the leaves atleast, never tried it but just thought of it now, should work. Cheers bud Sheldon

Climates are different obviously, so the plants that do well here may not do well for you. However, I would guess that all the verbena family are annuals for you. For my area the large purple porterweed (stachytarpheta frantzii) is a terrific butterfly/hummingbird plant. We haven't had a hard freeze here for almost three years and these plants are ever-blooming if it doesn't freeze, They bloom best in the late summer and fall. Right now mine are in full bloom; some are over twelve feet tall. I've tried many different porterweeds over the years, but the large purple one is the best by far. For some people it can get too large, but not in my garden. The other porterweed that has done well for me---meaning it is a perennial that is ever-blooming-- is what we call the native porterweed. It is small, produces blue flowers and attracts small butterflies, moths and bees. For a gardener in Trinidad I imagine that the red porterweed would be an excellent plant. In my area it dies out at even the suggestion of a frost.

I did ask her if she had her teeth in.....she tends to spit them out when she is by herself, in her own little world. They bother her. She assured me she had them in.
I could just see her hunting for a minnow bucket with her teeth floating in it when the troopers arrived.
Today is a beautiful day, and I am sure she is getting a boatload of fish.
Great friends are like fine rare jewels. Especially the ones with a grand sense of humor.

That is so funny, especially because it reminded me of me, sort of. We were pulling a trailer with a small tractor on it and the tongue broke, shooting sparks, at 4 AM near Little Rock, on the interstate. After working on it for 2 hours in the dark, Woody left me there at dawn to guard it while he found a guy to weld it. There I was, in the tall wet grass, freezing my butt off, standing at the fence line hiding from view, scared to death that someone would stop and try to steal the tractor or that I was going to be attacked by a pack of wild dogs, I could hear them getting closer, yikes. lol This was a long time ago. After he got back and got us all fixed up and ready to go, a state trooper finally stopped. Woody jumped right down that poor guy's throat, "where the he!! were you guys when we needed you?" We had seen at least 4 troopers turning around about 50 yards down the highway, right before they got to us, even though they had to see our flashing blinkers. Poor trooper, he started stuttering all over the place. We were ticked. I was soaked up to my knees in 40 degree weather, my lips were blue, it was about 5 hours since it had happened and we weren't happy.

I'm glad your friend didn't have any real troubles, Trin, other than getting busted by a cop. lol
