The Kitchen Table

I got a great chuckle from my girlfriend today.....

My girlfriend and her DH left out this morning with their boat in tow to go fishing in Louisiana. In Shreveport, their boat trailer had a flat. Luckily, they had a spare.

Off they go.

Somewhere in between zilch and no where, they had another flat, this time on the other side of the trailer.

Oh my.

My friend stays behind with the boat and trailer while her DH takes the truck to go find a new tire.

So here she sits, on the side of a major interstate, sitting in a boat, with a trailer flattened on one side, reading her book waiting for DH to return.

Here comes the state patrol. Lights flashing. Here sits friend in boat, on interstate, reading her book without a worry in the world.

I am already rolling with laughter as she tells me this story, as the police are still there with her.

By now DH shows up, and his first comment out of the truck is, boy I can't leave you anywhere without you getting in trouble.

I am falling over laughing. So is she.

Seems, no one wanted to stop to help, but several calls were made to 911 to report a women reading a book in a boat by herself, on the interstate.

I told her she should have grabbed a rod and reel and thrown a line out onto the freeway. Now THAT would have been a good one!!

Ahhhh.....some people have all the fun.

Melissa- After reading your post, I immediately jumped in my car and flew to Gertens - and I live in Wisconsin. 'Empress Wu' is at the top of my wish list. However, when I got there she was priced at $39 (yikes!! - lol) That is a little rich for my blood, so I settled for a huge 'Big Daddy' ($9), four 'Mona Lisa' lilies (in one pot), two hakone grass, 3 Ajuga reptans, 'Burgundy Glow', a HUGE Datura and some Creeping Jenny. I had a $10 gift card so I got the whole thing for $49.00 I felt a little better getting so much more for the money. I guess I am just cheap/frugal (lol). 'Empress Wu' will have to wait. Gerten's, by the way, has more than quadtrupled their hosta inventory and had quite a few new varieties. Thanks for the heads up, Melissa.

Thanks for all the great compliments. Just a few details about the kitchen for now. I'll post them all when it is completed. The granite has a 1/2 bull nose edge. I chose this because I wanted a flat surface on the bottom where I could place my hand to catch crumbs as I wipe them off. I also wanted to stay simple to match the style of cabinets. Flooring is Somerset Country Collection with the buttercup finish. It is hand-scraped and helps hide the scrapes my 2 labs put into it every day. I figured I might as well blend in what I knew was inevitable. :-)

I think you have achieved a very good and interesting monotone look which one doesn't see in alot of kitchens. The inclusions in the slabs will add depth. It makes me want to re-do my kitchen but we just did a master bedroom/bath,hall bath renovation. I can't believe I'm even saying this as the job took twice as long due to the vanity troubles (Bertch). Anyway my husband says we have no money left so no fear there!!

You can't beat Burling as a person. She conducts her business at the highest level of professionalism, and gives the personal touch to all her transactions. Then there's her roses...very well grown and reasonably priced. The chance of finding a rarely encountered variety no one else propagates, Burling usually has it, especially the often forgotten and overlooked exceptional oldies. Her stock list is phenomenal! I'm like a little kid waiting for my order to come any day now. Sweet Arlene (what a great miniflora...did so well for me this past year, two more are coming), and Cafe Ole, new to me...giving it a try, these are my order. Three cheers for Burling!

I did ask her if she had her teeth in.....she tends to spit them out when she is by herself, in her own little world. They bother her. She assured me she had them in.
I could just see her hunting for a minnow bucket with her teeth floating in it when the troopers arrived.
Today is a beautiful day, and I am sure she is getting a boatload of fish.
Great friends are like fine rare jewels. Especially the ones with a grand sense of humor.

That is so funny, especially because it reminded me of me, sort of. We were pulling a trailer with a small tractor on it and the tongue broke, shooting sparks, at 4 AM near Little Rock, on the interstate. After working on it for 2 hours in the dark, Woody left me there at dawn to guard it while he found a guy to weld it. There I was, in the tall wet grass, freezing my butt off, standing at the fence line hiding from view, scared to death that someone would stop and try to steal the tractor or that I was going to be attacked by a pack of wild dogs, I could hear them getting closer, yikes. lol This was a long time ago. After he got back and got us all fixed up and ready to go, a state trooper finally stopped. Woody jumped right down that poor guy's throat, "where the he!! were you guys when we needed you?" We had seen at least 4 troopers turning around about 50 yards down the highway, right before they got to us, even though they had to see our flashing blinkers. Poor trooper, he started stuttering all over the place. We were ticked. I was soaked up to my knees in 40 degree weather, my lips were blue, it was about 5 hours since it had happened and we weren't happy.

I'm glad your friend didn't have any real troubles, Trin, other than getting busted by a cop. lol
