Got my order from Santa Rosa Gardens today

Lol, got my order from Santa Rosa today, it was Mix-Up daylilies on sale. They are little plugs about 2" tall, and are healthy, will probably grow fine, but not such a great deal after paying shipping and all!

I think this indicates how the nurseries are suffering along with many companies, but sure doesn't guarantee future orders from me...

oh, dear. now i am worried -- have plants coming from them today -- 3 'Tidal pool' veronica and 3 phlox subulata 'Scarlet Flame'. le sigh. and our weather has not been exactly cooperative lately with many rainy days every week and hardly any sun...

SRG has been my mail order perennial source for over 5 years. One look at their fantastic packing was all it took. I've got Hellebore/Lenten rose, Heuchera/coral bells, Dianthus/carnation + plenty more from them that are currently thriving in my garden beds. What's not to like?

I got that email too! I went straight to the website and bought some stuff. Ok, lots of stuff. I remember donn was really happy with his order, and they looked great! I missed my chance earlier this year when they had that sale. I filled my cart, and then left it, and slowly over the course of the next few days, they ran out of everything I had picked! So this time I jumped on it! Great prices!

lol buyorsell! There's a Panicum virgatum Ruby Ribbons in there I swear! Back row, second from the left! I have just 6 or so grasses, most bought from Santa Rosa, every single one has done well with barely any extra care. Including a Phalaris arundinacea Strawberries & Cream, which I later read can be invasive...boy is that thing growing fast, so far I LOVE it! It went from a 3 inch pot to this in one year, last year. I ordered a few grasses from Santa Rosa earlier this year. No complaints. Great packaging and shipping charges were comparable to other companies.

The company appears to me to be a specialty grass nusery, I probably would avoid ordering from them with daylilies in the future. The ones they offer are common older diploids, used in landscaping design work.

Check out maryotts site, its better to spend money on two daylilies that you really want then to spend half the money on 10 you may not want later. I learned this the hardway over the years. Less is sometimes more.

Maryotts is probably the best reseller of daylilies out there, they do hybridize there own, but thats not what they are known for.

i have a Maryott's order coming sometime this month -- first time ordering with them. so many folk on the daylily forum here praised them that i thought i'd try it. can't wait to see what i get!

meanwhile, my Santa Rosa order just arrived on the doorstep. i do like their packaging, also. and the plants look fine. can't wait for 'Tidal Pool' to bloom next year -- an amazing color!!
