Yo-Yo Quilt

Found this at an estate sale. Great find!

The shoebox on the lower left contains all the remaining yo-yos cut out and waiting to be finished. The box on the top right contains 6 more completed blocks. There was even a sketch of the completed quilt by the deceased.

How neat! Someone put in a lot of hours in this one. Is this what's used in the summertime for a coverlet on a bed?

Hi Sweets, I really don't sell, but that is good news to me. I love going to craft shows and had noticed that there were less and less handmade crafts! So many things at the shows I recognized from catalogs I had received in the mail. I hope the younger people do learn to do crafts, it is such a source of satisfaction (and a stress reliever) when you are busy creating something, Hope you post a pic of your yo yo quilt when you get it finished. I sew, mosaic, and paint/distress small vintage wood items for the house (shelves, foot stools, cabinets, etc). To be more specific, my theme is cottage, and or shabby, whichever you prefer. Lately, I have been into pillows. I buy vintage Wilendur tablecloths in rose patterns and strawberries as well. I have scraps left over that are still good enough to make more pillows, but had them up on Craigslist, hoping to trade for pieces of vintage chenille. No bites yet. Would love to trade them if I could find chenille. I love vintage fabrics. I also make curtains out of feedsacks, and chair covers, and more pillow cases. LOL As for Mosaics, I have over 3 dozen items I have made over a period of 3+ years, using fine china. As for painting and distressing. I just love finding old items to re-purpose. I also crochet. I used to paint on wood ( Country stuff and funny stuff ) I gave up when so many imports came in that I couldn't compete . I've done quilling - decoupage - little party favors - I tried my hand at floral and was a complete flop ...my recent endeavor was stained glass. It sells like hotcakes - if you have the right crowd .I'm ready to go back to the retro crafts and see if they sell ! LOL

I have the "blocks" (ovals) that would form a Double Wedding Ring quilt. My Great-Grandmother Betty started them in the 1930s. Before she died, she gave the large stack of ovals to her daughter, my Grandma Kate. (She raised me.) Great-Grandma said she wasn't going to live long enough to finish the quilt; she wanted Grandma to finish it for her. When Grandma was in her 80s she gave the ovals to me, telling me the same "I'm not going to live long enough to finish them." So, here I am, at 53, wondering if my health will hold out until we finish fixing this house so I'll have time to get the ovals made into either a large queen, or two twin size quilts. I don't have children, and so far none of the neices and nephews are showing any interest in needle arts. My mom loves the blocks but she doesn't have time to quilt. I'd love to finish the Double Wedding Ring and give it to her.

Yes, I think coverlets were exactly what they used them for. I've seen a really cute patriotic overshirt made out of them. It was gorgeous.

What a great find! I don't care if yo yo's aren't the hot new thing, they're still great!

What a great find, I love it. I made some for nursing home patients to use to cover their laps while sitting in a wheelchair. I like to make them while traveling in the car. They require little concentration, are fairly quick to do and can be put down with out loosing your place.

A great find, and kind of touching to think that the quilt is going to be completed in spite of its original maker being unable to do it.
