What types of crafting do you do?

What are you into?

I used to just paint, paint, paint. That was my favorite thing to do!

Then I got into sewing and if I'm in the right mood, I'll make curtains or pillows or fix things around the house. I made DS a few camo pillows for his bed last week and a tank shaped pillow that he loves a lot. He thinks I'm the best Mom ever now! LOL

I also learned to crochet about two years ago. I do that when I get in the mood. Did a lot of crocheting the last week or so but then I get burnt out. I guess I need a fast project or two (something other than scarves) that I can complete quickly and keep myself inspired or something?

I also got into making yo-yo's (the quilting kind) in the summer. I have a huge bag of them and another with more circles cut. I planned to do a red, white and blue mixture of yo-yo's to make a wall hanging for our bedroom. Not done yet..lol

I used to paint alot also, ceramics. Absolutely loved it. Now my passion is working with stained glass. Stepping stones and panels, and for Christmas I got a glass bead making kit. I'm so excited, I can't wait to get started. I also enjoy sewing, painting, diy at home and decorating.

I'm alot like you Leslie in that I prefer to do fast projects.

Sewing, cooking and scrapbooking. I still enjoy basic general crafts too and crochet every now and again.

I learned a long time ago these people are not afraid of insulting you, so don't be afraid to stand your ground about your work. If it's all original work, put out a sign stating your work is copyrighted. If my wife made up a poem and displayed it and somebody was copying it, she would quietly just pick it up and hold it. And let the copier say something. One of the biggest problems in this business is "crafters" who can't BUY an original idea. So they troll shows looking for something to copy. And if you have something different, you must protect it. When I made house numbers I had frames designed by me. I had this sign in my booth prominently displayed. "I have a copyright on my frames and a pitbull of a lawyer!"

How much do you make an hour on crafts ?

Generally, I couldn't tell you how long one item takes me, because I don't watch the clock when I craft and I try to streamline (production line) when I work. For example, I am sewing and I run about 20 items through, first the side seam, then the other seam (my mom worked in a sewing factory for a few years). It's not mass producing, just being efficient. I can get more done that way. Anyway, I have never figured in my time in the price, I generally use the rule of thumb or 3-5 times the cost, but then think how much I would be willing to pay also and what I have seen at other shows that are similar and what they are pricing at. I know there are a few crafters that are very particular about their "formula" and making profits, but I feel that most of us are doing this for the love of crafting and the money we make just helps to support that addiction. The biggest problem with formula's is that they don't apply equally to all crafts. I have one that I make for the kids (candymen), and I can make over 100 in the evening (3 hrs at most). And the cost is relatively cheap, so if I used the formula's I would be charging maybe .25 each, but that doesn't seem worth the time and effort. I sell them for $1.00 each and have for years. So you just have to find the price range that you are comfortable with. And most of all, enjoy what you are doing. Laura

I take along - me, myself and I. I enjoy going alone cause I can putz around and not worry about whether someone had enough and wants to leave. If I do go with someone, it's my girlfriend who really isn't into crafty things but will go just to get out of the house. At the huge Big E (NE States Exposition) last year, I spent over $200 and she spent less than $20 on a bracelet, she didn't want to go this year. So I went myself. Funny, while visiting my two sisters in OH this past May we went to Factory Direct Craft Supply warehouse and they wanted to leave for lunch. I exclaimed "I AM NOT LEAVING" - bring me back something to eat. I was there for four hours!!! Love it, Love it, Love it. Sal

What type of crafting do you do? It's not in so bad a shape (judging from the photos) that a little clean up and touch up would not make it look acceptable. If you do crafts with heat, solvents, or sharp tools, you could make a protective cover for it. A cabinet shop could make a slip over cover with MDF and Formica and this would be protective of the top surface. I have an old "battleship green" desk that I bought from the telephone company when they went modular. It came with a cover like this that must have been a renovation in years past. I painted the metal parts (to black), put it on casters and is now a combination work-table and tool & hardware chest.

I find myself to be a jack of all trades. I knit, crochet, cross stitch, sew, quilt, scrapbook, bead, paper crafts, yarn crafts, recycled crafts, wood crafts, painting (not good at it and not a favorite), all kinds of kids crafts for schools and VBS. I always have some sort of big project going at home and a smaller one that can travel with me to keep my hands busy.

I've done just about all the crafts over the years. I have aload of supplies in my craft room but no one to share them with right now. I'm crocheting right now to keep my hands busy. I found a pattern in my drawer (that included the sequins) for embellishing a shirt and am trying to get them all glued on - at least it will be reedy for the next season!!

Another "jack of all trades here". I'm an avid cross stitcher.I also sew quilt,tole paint,make crafts from recycled stuff.Do a lot of home dec sewing,and will try my hand at anything at least once.Lately i've been trying to teach myself how to crochet.Oh,almost forgot,also do a lot of gardening.

I used to paint on wood ( Country stuff and funny stuff )
I gave up when so many imports came in that I couldn't compete . I've done quilling - decoupage - little party favors - I tried my hand at floral and was a complete flop ...my recent endeavor was stained glass. It sells like hotcakes - if you have the right crowd .I'm ready to go back to the retro crafts and see if they sell ! LOL
