Dark Grey Quartz + Stained Cabinets = Dated? Too Dark?
Comments (14)@feisty68: thanks for reminding me. I wasn't able to find older threads, so I thought posting a new thread might help others in the same situation. The house was built in 1868 and has a Mansard roof. Very little architectural detail has been preserved on the inside. The first floor basically consists of three 13'x13' boxes connected by arched openings: a front living room with a bay window, a dining room, and the kitchen in the rear. All rooms have the same red oak flooring in a reddish tone very similar to Adel Medium Brown. The door on the east wall, which is being resized, leads to a tiny room (can be used as a pantry) on the north and the outside on the south. The nook on wall D leads to the dining room. The door on Wall C leads to a bathroom. http://kitchenplanner.ikea.com/US/UI/Pages/VPUI.htm?LoadDesign=8bf8333e60ed4994bff77dfdf111ee09&UIContext=Kitchen&IsSharedDesign=1 Here is a link that might be useful: Link to Older Thread: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg0420205914987.html...See MoreSuggestions on wall colors for a dated dark office space
Comments (4)I think that blue can actually be gloomy unless chosen very very carefully. And that it is maybe the most difficult color to choose well. You will need to use a warm color to achieve the "feel" that you want. A warm gray would actually work better than a blue in my opinion. Suggest you take some photos of the carpet, wood, and any fabrics on the chairs, and then paste them into one of the paint manufacturer's websites and look at various colors with your existing elements. Some colors I have used you may want to look at are Pashmina and Chelsea Gray by BM, and Kestral White by SW. Oh, and congrats on earning the office!...See MoreIs the burgundy / red accent wall dated?
Comments (8)I don't understand "dated," at all. If you love it and want it, you should have it! I love deep, dark, red, not really burgundy but just nearly black dark red. All four walls of my small, north-facing den are painted dark red. I love it. It's beautiful all day long and really glows at night when I have one lamp on. The floors are 60+ year old oak, and show their age, the 8' ceiling and dropped soffit (16" down the wall) is a camel color, and the trim is white - soon to be painted an off white. I love jewel tones. I never understood the "neutals" décor, and grey makes me depressed. I have friends with grey houses and grey furniture, and grey rugs - and some of them are lovely, but I get sad every time in the house for very long....See MoreDark Accent Wall - Should we paint this wall?
Comments (4)I like how you used that color on your entry wall! I wouldn't paint this back wall though. What else is in that room? It could be that you need something but maybe not, depending on the rest of the space. But just looking at your pictures, I think some window treatments for color/texture/pattern, or a plant in the corner will add some life to the space....See MoreUser
