Dark Accent Wall - Should we paint this wall?

We have a wall that has a sliding door to our deck, two windows, and a modern tile fireplace and we were thinking of painting the wall space a dark charcoal color. All of the other walls in the rom would stay the really light white/grey color so this would be more of an accent wall. Our house and design style is pretty simple/modern so the dark color would not be out of place (lots of other dark/black accents in the room), the question is whether it would look good or be too overwhelming. We like the idea of adding style without adding stuff.

I've attached two pictures of the wall; one with all of the windows open and one with some of the blinds drawn. I've also attached a picture of the color, we used it on an entry wall treatment on the other side of the house.

I wouldn’t paint it dark. I’d paint it a clean clear white.

The wall looks a bit long to be an accent wall. I wouldnt paint that wall dark. If you have a shorter wall, that would work for an accent wall, then maybe. However, it is just paint. If you paint it and decide you dont like it, you can always primer it and repaint it back to what it is now.

I thought it was a great idea until I saw the wall in question. The room is quite asymmetrical as far as doors, windows, and fireplace placement, and one accent wall would add to that chaos. Instead, I would concentrate on trying to bring order and symmetry with colors and furnishings. The colors you're using are beautiful and restful, and I'd add a creamy white for the trim and do a less rustic wood mantel in the same white. You may even want to dab thinned out white paint on the orange red bricks of your fireplace to give it a more muted palette. Love your rug and the curtains soccermom posted above, especially that first color! That same turquoise could be incorporated in a club chair, or leather ottomans, etc.. What sofa will go in that room?

I would paint them the same color, if I had some of the same paint - did they leave you any? What color frames do your photographs have? Stainless steel would look good, or bleached maple or birch, but I would avoid black for a black wall. What color mats are used with the photos?

I've seen lots of kitchens that have both knobs and pulls, and it looks good and right. This is a case where function is paramount, but fortunately the combination of the two styles also looks good. I wonder if your husband doesn't just like gray because it's the "in" color. You might want to mention that in decorator circles it's already out and the people who still have it just haven't caught up. However, there are paint colors that have the word "gray" in them which are very attractive because they are on the warm end of the spectrum and not too dark.

I have a vaulted ceiling in my family room with a fireplace that goes to the ceiling. I painted both sides of the fireplace a different color (accent color if you will) then the other walls. I am sick of it, LOL. I think it makes the room look smaller than it is. We are repainting soon and will paint everything one color. As far as color itself, what color is your furniture?

I like how you used that color on your entry wall! I wouldn't paint this back wall though. What else is in that room? It could be that you need something but maybe not, depending on the rest of the space. But just looking at your pictures, I think some window treatments for color/texture/pattern, or a plant in the corner will add some life to the space.

Painting the wall dark will focus your attention on the view. I think it can be successful.
