Well i will add my 1.5c, not sure your area but seems like the lower bid is significant enough to investigate it and consider. I am finalizing between three bids, and ruled out the lowest one I got. My pool is 15x30 free form, spa, flag coping, etc. and two are roughly what your low one is, one is way off the charts high. For me, i don't mind paying a fair price and don't need a huge deal, more important is reputation, longevity, etc. Also personality is a factor for us, how much do they sub out, warranty, etc. I'm sure many of the PB's on here can speak to specific line items and their associated costs. I set a hard 55k budget for our pool (no decking) so it's really about seeing how much they charge for the extras that matter to you. For example our water feature drew a huge range of $3k to $20k, the lowest "base pool" price was interestingly enough the most expensive for the "goodies" so it all washes out in the end. Seems like you know what you want so as close to comparing apples and apples as you'll probably get. To me as a consumer, they seem high, but don't know area and again, not a builder. We managed to get the guy we liked the best down in price about 10% to be competitive with the lower bids, so I don't know if this is normally a negotiation process, but I was able to do so. Someone mentioned trying to pit the builders against each other on pricing, to me this does not sound right, and almost certainly bite you in the ass on the back end for service or quality of workmanship. We have not fully decided but will do so this week! Happy to share my costs offline in greater detail!!
