Not exactly decorating, but I am so fond of old cupboards that I will buy every one I find, if it is a good buy. I have so many....I don't know what to do with all of them. We are going to do some work in the house and trying to decide where everything will go. It's a small house to begin with, and cupboards are useful. But even tho I have so many...I am still always looking for them and know I will end up buying more. I guess it is my obcessive/compulsive nature.

The worst thing I ever did tho, was take a small hanging cupboard that was layered in paint and sent it out to be refinished. It came back looking brand new. I put it in a closet and haven't cared for it since. I have no idea why I did that...had it stripped. I have kicked myself about it a million times.

I have second thoughts all the time. Sometimes, I don't even like to buy things because before I buy something, I have choice options in color, style or whatever. After I buy, I'm stuck with it because I can't justify making another purchase. For example, dh wants lamps for our bedroom so we don't have to get out of bed to turn on the light. In the last year, we've bought a new bed, curtains, bedding, etc., BUT I can't buy lamps because I want nice ones and I haven't fully decided on which color I'm going to paint the bedroom. If I buy the lamps, I'll be stuck with them even if if they don't match. Instead, I delay making the purchase.

How's that for second thoughts?

Yes...I guess wrong all the time, when a friend with great taste tells me what she honestly thinks when I ask her. She always tells me so nicely though.

Are you kidding?

For the past two weeks, we've been going round and round (and it's not a decorating question). We've found the PERFECT house to retire to--we love the area, lower taxes than here. It's almost the right price. It's got everything on my 'must have' list; everything on my 'wish list' and a whole bunch of ammenities I'd never even dreamed of considering.

So why second-guessing ourselves? For the next year, maybe 2, this would be our second house. DH isn't quite ready to retire yet. So we'd be carrying 2 houses for the forseeable future. Doable, but a little more risk than we generally take. Still, this house is really unique, and absolutely perfect. Every house we ever considered in the future would be measured against this one (and probably come up wanting)--so we probably will be making an offer this weekend.

So yes, I know about second-guessing.

I'm no decorator, my house (after 28 years of marriage) is furnished almost entirely with hand-me-downs. But anything looks good painted white. And white blends with every color and finish in the world.

Adellabedella, I hear you! Are you sure we weren't separated at birth? LOL

Before we started painting (all our walls were white) I spent a lot of time on the decorating forum and the painting forum. I heard a lot of "it's only paint and you can always paint over it". So I went with colors I wanted. It was only after two days on the ladder with my rear and legs aching so much that I figured that "only paint" carp only applies if you're 40 or under. Thankfully, the colors blend really well because I sure as heck wasn't painting them again any time soon.

It takes me forever to pick out things too, Adellabedella. Things cost so much I cross my fingers and hope it'll be right. Before I bought a bedspread, I looked at over 600 on the internet. Wouldn't even think there could be that many different ones. It turned out to be really pretty. Doesn't always work out that way--then I kick myself to next week.

I like decorating threads on the KT. I feel like I know more of you than on the decorating forum so it's more comfortable talking about it.

Yep, sure can. The bed is placed on the diagonal in the corner and the two ladders go from the ceiling to the floor, so most of them are visible behind the bed. If my bed was scooted over DIRECTLY in the corner and the bed was made, I'd show ya! LOL

i'm in that aweful find the right color of paint stage, and waiting for dh to repair the ceiling...

i like the fact you're displaying linens...i've been thinking for the longest time pulling out my ggm quilt and using it...my sister had old quilts over the top of doors of her bedrooms...

Oh, YaYa, who would even notice if the chair, oh, I mean the bed, was a few inches off? Really, who? lol

I second guess myself all the time. I painted our office dark brick red even though I knew Woody would hate it. He loved it. I hated it. It's now "Dusted Bronze" which is a shade of pale green with some yellow in it, it was only brick red for 3 days.

Same with the laundry room, it took 3 tries to get a color I could live with. I need to paint the upstairs, the entire thing is like one long room, so picking that color will take me months.
