The Head of Infectious Disease on Swimming In Your Pond
Comments (13)Thanks for the info. That is pretty much what I thought with a couple of caviats. The first is to be aware of the critters that visit and make sure the area around the pond is kept clean. Those raccoon roundworms are not funny. If you find fresh scat, remove it inside a sealed plastic bag and forgo the swim that day. I don't know how to sanitize the area but I'm sure it is on some site somewhere. I just don't have time to look for it right now. The second is to make sure there is someone with you or very close by who will respond to loud splashes and possible curses. The liner gets really slippery. Happy swimming, Sandy...See MoreSwim-up bar or table?
Comments (2)Hi exit2studios, We had considered the in pool bench and table also, but I ended up designing a swim up bar. I think it really depends on what you want to use it for. With a swim-up bar, you can have a complete BBQ kitchen behind the bar. If you really just want a place to hang with drinks and stuff, and would prefer your BBQ away from the pool, a bench and table would be more than adequate. Either one is really nice to have! You can see our swim up bar on the "Infinity Edge pool construction" thread. Hope this helps a little!...See MoreWe are Swimming! Almost Finished Pics!
Comments (13)Thanks for all the great comments. I was going for a resort look and your comments make me feel like a achieved my goal! tinabinabobina - I'm not positive what it is exactly - but I requested plain old white plaster. I've been told it has marble crystals in it? gk5040 - The palms I believe are called Washington Fan Palms. They are hearty palms and have survived snow and freezing. The grow nicely in the Pacific NW. We are in zone 8. ethiojazz - The pool house is the equipment room. We need to house our equipment here due to weather. I took the design from a Pool Magazine and had it built. It has cedar soffits with canned lights and inside it is open framed with attic storage and a skylight. It will have a wrap around deck with a changing area behind (not built yet, already plumbed with hot & cold water for future shower). Snookums - lol - the shelf actually sticks out 6 ft. If I did it over again I would have made it 5 ft. But I'm very happy with it. gotpool - lol - sorry all rooms have been booked through next year! We figure we won't be finished with the entire project until next year. But that's okay - we are swimming! Comments (11)In regards to your question. I always advise my clients to keep either counters or cabinets the same. No 2 and 2. My personal opinion is that it ends up being busy, distracting and doesn't allow the eye to rest anywhere. In regards to your counter colour. You are talking about whites but I am partial to darker counters, especially when the client isn't wanting a busy counter top for 2 reasons. 1. I find them very striking without being distracting. 2. I've found they are less likely to stain or show stains. In regards to Kathi's comment. I agree that I think this plan could use some reworking. 1. I also would be moving your sink under the window with the DW to the right. Also increase the space between the window wall and the island. 2. I personally would prefer a larger island as opposed to the cabinets on the living room wall. I would push the fridge all the way to the corner, get rid of the cabinets on the wall by the living room and keep your island the depth it is. Also if I'm seeing the scale right you should be able to fit some extra deep cabinets under that island and still have adequate seating room....See Moreel_duderino
