(the current boxes are prototypes to figure out the desired height - finished boxes will be concrete - the sheer descents have colored fiber optics not hooked up yet)

Build outdoor Kitchen & Bar

Build Outdoor Firepit

Install Automatic Pool Cover

Finish Landscaping & Lighting

& paint the house.

Congratulations, your pool is beautiful, ohhhhh it looks so refreshing and inviting. What is your pool finish, is that diamond brite? I love the shot with the lounge chairs and the towels, looks like a resort. Cheers to endless happiness in your new pool.

I was thinking the same thing....love the resort look with the orange towels and flowers. The fun tiles look great too. All your landscaping is so lush, and full. Looks like its been there for years. What kind of palm is in the dusk pictures?

biochem101 and brody_miasmom and mamalynn, we painted all the trim in the house bright white right after we moved in. A few weeks before moving day, I showed the online pics to a friend who works for an interior design firm. She saw all the stained trim and started singing, "Ring a-round the wind-ow, ring a-round the roo-oom." I didn't think it looked that bad, but I love painted trim and it wasn't like I was painting over vintage old-growth, twelve-inch hardwood baseboards, so DH painted all the trim glossy white and all the hollow core interior doors flat black. Thanks for your remarks on the backsplash,lisa_a. It does read a soft blue-grey that somehow goes with the green walls. It's a mosaic of 5/8" glass-and-steel tiles grouted with grey grout. As you can see, it was hard for an amateur like me to install it straight when each tile had a different thickness. Yikes, this section is really crooked! It was marketed as an accent listello in mesh-mounted strips 3 tiles wide by 18 tiles long, so installation took awhile.

I can't say that you're getting good advice on the sink issue until you answer another question or two...do you have a "real" master bath with two sinks? And did you cap off the plumbing but leave it accessable in your daughters bath? If you answered yes to both, leave the long counter. You don't have to plan for a family that does not live in your home and two sinks in a one person bathroom is rediculous (I've had it...it's awful). IF you capped off you can advertise it's ready for two sinks when you sell if you want, but don't cut a hole without knowing if it's necessary. If you don't have a real master bath you've probably made a mistake giving it to your daughter and you should plan on making a real one when you move...but again, why do it now? It's an easy fix later. Someone mentioned whispy or gauzie for the window. IMO it's absolutely necessary. If you put in a bamboo shade you've added some texture but it's still a hard texture and your bath is far too high on hard textures and way way low on soft textures and the beach is all about softness. White for your towels and mats...keep it easy and soft (again because it's missing) go fluffy on those mats...fun and fluffy. I wish I had a pic but in my condo appt I went with a color very near your color and loved it. One thing I did to soften the big mirror was to use a bunch of picture frames on the mirror painted in a shabby chic type of white. (does that make sense?) They were all cheap picture frames, but mostly bulky frames, with the pics removed and then I velcroed (double stick velcro in white) the frames to the mirror, with a big one over the sink and the balance scattered around. You'd be amazed how the harsh lines of the wall mirror disapear in the debth of the framed pieces. I am with most in that I don't like the lights, but their placement isn't the issue, it's the harshness of the fixtures themselves...but that's an easy fix if you soften up the rest of the room with texture. Fluffy white mats, towels, white frames on the mirror, a soft breezy gauzy window covering (which could be done over a grass cloth shade if you want more privacy) and some lovely counter accessories (candles and sand, grasses etc) would really make the room sing, and fix all of your issues (IMO) I'd consider doing the gauzy covering by tacking the gauze to a whispy piece of thin beach wood for the curtain rod, and then hot glue sea shells or sand dollars or star fish every five or six inches as if they were holding up the gauze... A collection of antique perfume spritzers would be a lovely accessory to bridge your tween into teen.

We went with Kraftmaid cabinets. The perimeter is Cognac and the island is Moss green with Mocha glaze. We chose Aztec Brown granite which will be installed Tuesday. The walls are Sherwin Williams, Desert Beige. There are windows along the whole back wall of the house, so yes, there is a ton of natural light. I still am pinching myself... Thanks for sharing in my excitement.

I read in another thread that your sheers are lighted. I have the conduit ready for mine but I just can't decide whether to buy the lighting or not. Will you post photos of yours lit up as soon as you can?

Your pool looks gorgeous. You can tell you put a lot of detail into this. Can not wait to see when everything is up & running.

Looks great poolmissy!!! Love the way you have hidden your equipment in the pool house. Love your fence and your teak furniture (I'm partial to teak as well... currently working on treating some new pieces). The whole yard looks awsome!

tinabinabobina - I'm not positive what it is exactly - but I requested plain old white plaster. I've been told it has marble crystals in it?

gk5040 - The palms I believe are called Washington Fan Palms. They are hearty palms and have survived snow and freezing. The grow nicely in the Pacific NW. We are in zone 8.

ethiojazz - The pool house is the equipment room. We need to house our equipment here due to weather. I took the design from a Pool Magazine and had it built. It has cedar soffits with canned lights and inside it is open framed with attic storage and a skylight. It will have a wrap around deck with a changing area behind (not built yet, already plumbed with hot & cold water for future shower).

Snookums - lol - the shelf actually sticks out 6 ft. If I did it over again I would have made it 5 ft. But I'm very happy with it.

gotpool - lol - sorry all rooms have been booked through next year!

We figure we won't be finished with the entire project until next year. But that's okay - we are swimming!

Very pretty backyard and pool. I love your pool furniture, very classy. I may steal an idea from your fence line. I like the arbor things and italian cypress (?). I need something to soften our fence line within a fairly narrow space. Yours look great.

stjohnrocks - I bought the furniture on-line and I'm very happy with it. It's made out of balau wood a competitor of teak. For the price I think they are a bargin at $399.00 the sunbrella cushions at only $99 are also a bargin.

The plants are Arborvitae or also know as Thujas. I would have loved to use italian cypress but they won't survive a freeze here.

I have wisteria growing atop the fence trellis. If you deadhead the blooms it will bloom all summer long with wonderful fragrant purple flowers.

$5K to fix the neighbors yard...wow, what happened to it?
Thats for the name of the palm, I am familiar with that kind, it just looked different probably because of the lighting and angle. Its all beautifull.

Hi Poolmissy,

At what speed are you running the pentair intelliflow to push the water through solar panels? Are the solar panels at 1st floor or 2nd floor?

We have 7 - 4x8 panels. 4 on our garage roof and 3 on the second story roof. They are about 50 away from the pool house.

The pool tech guy set it up with the intellitouch control panel so I'm not sure what speed it is - but if I had to guess it is on the high speed because you really hear the pump rev up when the solar kicks on and the water really circulates with great volume.

Racket on this forum is my pool equip. tech - maybe he can confirm this...

He did tell me that it wants to compete with the infloor cleaning system, so I should run them separately.

The solar appears to work pretty good, but the weather is turning here and I really won't be able to fully test the solar until next year.
