Has your Facebook changed in the way it looks?

I just went to my DGD's Facebook page for her cupcake business.

It is completely different than it was. Very unattractive.

I've looked at several family and friends FBs and they are the same.

It is not the Timeline thing.

I asked her about it and she said it was not her choice, FB had said it would change.

I'm wondering if the change is because it is a business?

Guess I shouldn't post the URL here, but do any of you have a business on Facebook?

Sue, I think it is the timeline thing. A lot of pages are changing and they are starting with businesses first.

The timeline is a mess....and nobody seems to like it, which is pretty funny when you think about how FB is converting all accounts to timeline!!!

Yeah that is what they are calling the "timeline". Mine changed back when I signed up for Pinterest but now I think it's changed for everyone...supposedly anyway...

Val Interesting ? - I didn't read any responses yet I found this forum late 2005 after we had a flood in our home. First finding the kitchen forum. I had so much work to do in a very short period of time. Basically an unplanned entire home renovation. The biggest being a kitchen gut & master bath gut. I could not have come to a more welcoming place. I was a maniac poster at times (might cringe if I were able to find my posts) - I had to move us out of this home, find a rental, movers to move contents out, rid of junk/flood ruined things, deal w/the insurance co., GC's, kitchen design, lead abatement, etc,etc, etc & 2 parents who were quite ill. I owe so much of how my home turned out to the talented people on GW - they helped with paint choices in each & every room, wallpaper, cabinet hardware, furnishing choices, rug choices, placement of furnishings, wood stain - You name it there was not a query that went unanswered. I felt overwhelmed to say the least. But GWers were always up to the task. I learned about hanging pics/mirrors which are typically to high, grouping artwork (still working on that one). Types of fabric/paints/carpets - Mind you I was much more concerned with the plumbing runs going through the joists in the LR and how that would be corrected. I think mostly I learned that I had capabilities and to trust myself & my own judgement. Along the way I gained much decorating confidence and became more engaged. I think previously my decorating sense was there, certainly not as educated or engaged. With confidence (much of it gained here) - I ventured out and started to do things I was interested in but afraid to really try - purchased a sewing machine & started some projects. I got an angle grinder & skill saw one Christmas & did my first tile project. I got so many ideas from looking through the eyes/homes of the GW group - still do. Where else can you go and get people(total strangers) willing to give their time and advice to help you? with anything? GW IS THE BEST - that's why I'm still here. Maybe we could have class of xyz reunions!

Your nursing home sounds great, but am hoping I am a long way from ever having to use it. In recent years hubby has cut back on my fabric budget. In years past I would spend like $50 - $80 and buy all my fabric for a queen-size quilt all at one time. And in years past, and am finishing one up now, I have been very controlled in my quilting making quilts like backwards pinwheel and card tricks quilts. I am finally starting to accumulate some scraps and am finding that buying fabric in smaller quantities seems to gives me less fuss from hubby. So am starting to buy more fabric quarters and 2 yard segments here lately. So my next quilt that I make for me I want to be a scrap quilt, a Grandmother's Flower Garden, a simple version of it with just one ring per block. I have also learned how to machine applique and how to hand applique during the past 9 months so am finding it handy in those projects to use fabric quarters. I am finding ways to be a frugal quilter and buy things in small amounts so my husband doesn't freak out on me, LOL that way we can both be happy with my quilting projects. I have found a good pace though. I spend 2 to 3 years making a queen-size quilt and then in the years between I start additional queen-size quilts and make lap quilts and baby quilts. I try not to have more than 5 or 6 quilts going at any one time. The last 2 years I have been working on 9-inch block quilts. This year I am starting one that is a 12-inch block quilt. I am also participating in the Round Robin Seeds-N-Stitches Swaps and that has me trying out new things like machine applique. It does take me a little out of my comfort zone, but am happy to be learning new things. And I like to browse through the internet and print out free quilt patterns. Ones I might possibly make in future years. And I print them out in case those websites aren't there in the future. Well back to my quilting. :-) Best to you, Sandra

california-dreamer, I've been following your saga with interest and worry. I don't know the answer to your question but if it were me, I'd call one of the big soapstone places and ask the question. Green Mountain, M Tex, Vermont Soapstone, that Tom guy in California who everyone raves about...I got mine from M Tex in NJ and I know they are well aware that they are discussed on this forum; I am sure that if you say, I was referred to you by someone on the Kitchen Forum and I have a question about soapstone veining changing color over time, that they will be happy to tell you what they know. I believe one of the owners of M Tex in NJ is Roberto and he is very knowledgeable. The person who sometimes answers the phone is a bit of a ditz; you need to get past her. Maybe floridajoshua will weigh in on the question. I have to say, though, that if you are buying this stone on the hope that it will change, then it is probably not the right stone for you. I think you need to love it going in. Good luck!

@rmtdoug - I bought the veneer from Oakwood Veneer. They have more choices than I could possibly list here, but more importantly they have them with two paper backing options - 10 and 20mil. I went with the thicker of the two; it's about as thick as greeting card stock. I have to back up to explain why, because for something like this there are two challenges. The first is, you have to go with something paper backed because contact cement is the only way the material may be applied to something this large. The second is, a LVL is nowhere near perfectly smooth. This one was in the attic for 10 years and had ceiling joists attached to and removed from it so there are nail holes and marks from a saws-all. The thicker backing makes all of that invisible. To prepare the LVL I used a punch to set all nails that were cut off and used spackling to fill pieces of missing wood. On the right side I filled nail holes and on the left I did not, but I can't tell the difference between the two areas. I followed the directions on the contact cement can and went to work. I cut the veneer slightly taller than the actual size of the beam because the ceiling is not perfectly flat. The occasional 1/32"-1/16" gap at the top will be filled with walnut wood filler. The veneer company recommends using a rounded off piece of wood to flatten bubbles instead of a J roller. So far, so good. It was still completely bonded when I left for work this morning. This was surprisingly easy. I should be able to finish the other big side this afternoon and maybe the underside by the end of the day. Looking forward to seeing how the chimney turns out @Texas_Gem - it's crazy to see how fast framers can go, isn't it? How long until they can get a roof on? I had seen some sites where the Timeline Splash thing was all over the page, but I thought that was a choice. Mine or family/friends pages haven't changed.

Why would FB does such a thing? Yeah, I know it is because they can!!

So I guess it is inevitable. What a shame.

My personal FB page is still the "old" look but a FB Page that I manage for my library has gone over to a version of the Timeline. I really don't like Timeline because of the way things are in two columns. Things seem to jump from left to right and back. It also takes a long time to load pictures. I do like the larger picture behind your profile picture. People have been creative with that.

I guess people are gradually being switched involuntarily to the Timeline. I wonder when mine will be changed.

I put my Timeline in one column by hitting "highlight" on each post I make.

The cover photos are fun, love that.

I noticed that even though I don't have timeline... which I hate, they are putting up notices on my page whenever my friends post a comment on "their" friends pages... I don't care if you say something to someone I have no clue who is. It is weird and I don't like it. Clutters up what I want to read. If you post to me, or on my status or whatever fine. but for you to make a comment on whoever's page it is, who is NOT a friend of mine, I don't care to have to scroll through it.

If that made any sense at all.

cwnev, if you look to the right of such messages, you'll see a little down arrow. If you click on that, you can make a choice as how to deal with such messages. You have to set your preferences yourself.

I found that I actually like the timeline. Not so much the look of it, but the capability of putting up things for the past. I've been having a lot of fun with it. I didn't like it at first, btw!

Country_bumpkin_al, when you make a post on your page, after it has posted, hold your cursor on the post and you'll see a star on the far right side. Click on the star and it'll highlight that post for you, which stretches it out all the way across the page.

The highlight feature wasn't meant for this purpose, but if your FB friends really hate reading your page in 2 columns, you could do this to each post you make.

(it might make any graphics you post kind of fuzzy)

I know I can get them off my page, I just hate that they started showing up in the first place. I have in my preferences to see just my friends posting to me, but they changed it some how. Now when my cousin leaves a comment on a friend of hers page, it shows up on mine. Why? I don't know her friend. I am not friends with her. Then all the comments that come after show up also. It is terrible.

I chose to keep the old FB format and I'm fine -- no timeline.

Petaloid, how were you able to keep the old format? I think they could have at least given us a choice, which is what I thought it was going to be.

Hasn't changed yet. Hopefully the backlash will give us a choice before they do.

Mine finally changed over (automatically) a week or so ago. I had no choice in the matter.
