Dale I would never be able to describe the exact location of where these morels were found. They were on private property, and I was invited by the owner, or I never would have found it by myself. Now, since she has moved, I'd probably have to trespass or get the new owner's permission. Anyways, you should be happy to know they are to be found in many locations in Oklahoma. Keep tabs on this link, and you should be able to zero in on a good location. I think there's another morel link for Oklahoma as well as this one online. You won't be disappointed if you luck onto a good morel spot. As you will see in the pics in this link, even the homeies love them, lol! Just wait til about April and about four days after a rain. Look for a moist woodland, where some deer and cows have roamed, and there are many such places in Oklahoma. I LOVE morels just about any way you can prepare them. And especially morel soup, or perhaps cut up in small pieces for tempura. A real delicacy. I've been thinking of starting my own little shitake patch. You can buy the spores of those online and perhaps other varieties as well. Dawn I can relate to the harvesting, canning and preserving fatigue. Getting kind of tired of it myself, so when dinner time rolls around and it's just me, it's catch as catch can from the garden. I really do hate to see the summer crops dwindling. Okra not bearing well. The cucumbers that store boughts will NEVER be able to rival are just about kaput. I still have tons of BIG tomatos that haven't ripened yet. Since it's been dry, with no recent rain, I've been allowing them to store up all that deliciousness and not get soggy or insipidly flavorless, so they have been amazing! Especially enjoying the Indian Stipes, which were not new to you, but certainly a delightful first for me. I'm hoping I don't get stuck with having to can jars of pickled tomatos or green tomato relish. I like it, but there's only so much of it I can eat. Today's menu was simply one of my baked buttercup squash, (just the right size for me), with butter and brown sugar, and cooked to pieces pole beans. Since I don't have a family to cook for, sometimes I kind of 'batch' and my folks used to call it. Well, here I am! Late to this party, as I got home last night. First things being first, we cleared out the dog crate, food and treats by packing them up and walking them over to different neighbors who knew Luna. (She had a lot of friends in the neighborhood.) Delivering news like this is hard, but right this minute I think the hardest is having such a quiet house. Packing up her favorite toys choked me up, but it's done. Working my way backwards and starting with OKC, I regret we didn't get to meet David or Sally, but I'm anticipating there will be another opportunity. Having the extra time allowed us to blow on so I could visit my mother. We drove 4,603 miles in three weeks, so you might say it was a whirlwind (tornadic in places), and we were ready to get home. Meeting Donna and her friend Debbie was fun. We met for breakfast in Albuquerque and I really enjoyed it. It's so nice to have the CF in common, and there were no awkward moments in the conversation. In fact, I'm finding it's so easy to talk to the CF in person, it's kind of hard to leave! I enjoyed every moment, and hope that with Donna, David and Sally, we have an opportunity to meet again. I feel pretty certain we'll see Karen (and Tom) somewhere at some point! (I think it must be easy to form a certain bond with the first people you meet.) I've tried for five GT's, and have managed two so far...The best thing is my New Year's resolution of meeting some of you is up and running! I'm loving it and at this point have TWO GT's under my belt and COUNTING. Thank you for your generosity in wanting to meet; it's so nice to feel a part of the CF in real life. Thruth be told as you most know i cook for family and friends on a regular basis. I never have a small crowd and often laugh at the fact that I have beautiful china and crystal service of 12 and never get to use it because I have too many guest all the time. I use it for my childrens birthday (private dinner) and Valentines and the kids love to sit at the fancy dining room with the "fancy dishes". I enjoy cooking everything but I must admit I get the most pleasure when serving "different" meals oppose to the standards. I love to introduce people to new foods and cultures that they normally on a staple wouldnt cook at home. I should say basically "THEMED MEALS". I think next will be a host of old fashion SOUTHERN or CAJUN food night. Im also looking foward to a GREEK themed dinner maybe when the weather cools down. The setting is always good to think about...you dont have to spend alot of money to play the cultures music or use even paper goods in colors of the country. When I did latin night I had Latin Music and Spanish Saint Candels burning around the house...just adds to the atmosphere. Anyone do these type of get togethers???? Id be interested to know what you use for atmosphere and bringing a theme together. Also what "CULTURE" dinner have you hosted?

We just got home and what a wonderful ending to a beautiful day. Of course we had a great time with family. The joy of going to the center and seeing their beautiful faces and smiles gives us so much joy. Had lots of food , have enough to feed everyone lunch again tomorrow. Thanks for you nice words, you all would have done the very same as our family. We are so blessed. There is one lady that is always there. She is the same age as myself. In her seventies and always a smile on her face thanking people for her dinner. It brought such joy to our hearts just talking to everyone. Sometimes they just want someone to talk with them. After we put all the food away for tomorrow and washed all the dishes it felt a little sad saying goodnight to them. In the end, the good guys won. The evil deed brought out more than a hundred loving hearts to help in a time of need. Hope all of you had a wonderful day.
