There was a rat in my house last night!

A Riverrat, that is, the very best kind of rat to have. Karen and her DH Charles are in Chicago for a few days as he has a conference to attend. They flew in Saturday early afternoon and after checking into their hotel in the city and a bit of sightseeing, they took the train to my house for dinner.

The weather was perfect so we had drinks and dinner on the patio with a nice cool breeze. We started with crab cakes and some of Annies Salsa and chips and a Pinot Grigio, then I did the theme of a Chicago steak house dinner: Salad with a creamy garlic dressing, strip steaks grilled rare, loaded baked potatos and BBSTX's baked onions. For dessert, what else but that wonderful Summer Tart with apricots and whipped cream. And some Bordeux.

Karen took the photos, so I am sure she will post when she gets back home later in the week, but thank heavens for Charles who reminded us to take them. We were too busy eating and talking! We talked until almost 11 pm, so we never made it to crashing the wedding of Doucanoe's daughter, Erin. They had started ther travels at 4:30 a.m., and were tuckered out by then.

I had a great time, and hopefully we can repeat this again and soon. I love meeting up with CF'ers.

That sounds just wonderful Peppi and the meal was really over the top!

((((everybody))))) All this hugging going around is making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Well it's either that or this budlight I've been drinking.....hiccup! :) KYgirl - Yep, they got the copper pipes too. Don't ya remember...we're building "up in the hills" of KY LOL. We're not in a neighborhood. There is only one house close to us. It's across the street and he didn't hear or see anything. You know, you would think that the people that buy the copper would wonder where Joe Blow gets a truckload of copper per week. I'll never understand the mentality of any of the people involved in this. Kharma seems to be trying to get my attention lately. I think I'll follow BJ's advice in another post and hide out for a while.

Tornado (?) at my folks' house last night

How scary Rita. And the season has only begun, sad to say. I hate tornado season, which used to be about May-July. Now it can be anytime. I won't even go to the cabin if there's storm in the forecast. I'd rather be here where my basement is. I hope everyone is okay, and there isn't a lot of damage for them. I saw the red/yellow storm area on the weather last night, and wondered about you all. Leslie

I feel your pain. I don't think you can really save the branch but I would be tempted to. I'd get some of that green stretchy stuff they sell to tie plant to a trellis and cross my fingers. I might see if they make some sore of sleeve too I'd go as far as fashioning a splint. But the bottom line, if it doesn't sound rational and it likely is not..... Root it! BTW one year rats ate a meyer lemon to the soil in the pot. Gnawed that sucker down. With nothing to loose except time and that pot, I fertilized and waited 1 year and got the biggest best lemons. That tree thanked me by leaping out of its roots. Soooo sorry again. c

Well, our next trip will probably be to Kansas to visit my amazing niece. However, we'll leave the RV at home We stay with her when we go put there. I am not sure when that will be exactly. We are seeing a skin cancer specialist next week. When we find out what the surgery will entail, and find out when that will take place, the we are gong to go to Kansas. March 30, we head to Florida for a month here . After that maybe wander on over to NOLA for a couple of weeks . In July, we head to Iowa, spend a week or two there. And then "wagon train" it out to Yellowstone for a couple of weeks with the kids. When the kids go back to Iowa, then we will meander our way southward here and there through Wyoming, Utah, California, Arizona, and then Eastward to either St Pete, Florida or the Florida Keys for the winter. At least that's the plan. Its all very flexible.

Oh Peppi, I'm envious, I'd have loved to be there.

When I read that you had a "rat" however, I was wondering how my ex-husband ever found it to your place, LOL.

Oh Peppi, what fun! Having met all four of you I don't have to imagine what a wonderful evening you had! Your dinner sounds wonderful and Karen must have been over the moon enjoying it in some relative "coolness"!

Sounds like a great evening Peppi. I guess the "RAT" took the weekend off from her summer job in TN. Remember that pick from PFPP? I don't have it on this computer or I would post. Like Ellen, I have great memories of spending the evening with y'all on the back deck.

As much as I would have enjoyed you crashing the wedding (LOL!) it sounds like you had a wonderful evening. Glad you all were able to get together!

I know what you mean by "tuckered". We were all pretty worthless on Sunday!

And boy did we have a great visit! It was so good to see Peppi and her Father again.

Charles had a meeting on Wednesday and we decided to go to Chi Town and visit with family and friends while we were there. I won't bore you with the details but needless to say we enjoyed the friends and family tremendously. Shopping was great too.

Thank you Peppi and Dad for a wonderful evening. It will be one that Charles and I will not soon forget. Your home is so warm and inviting...just seemed a perfect evening.

I apologize for making this short but I had a small eye procedure yesterday afternoon. The peepers aren't working well:-)

Peppi and I were able to get together on Tuesday evening at McCormick and Schmits. YUMMMMMMY!! I'll soon download those pics and post next week.

Karen-eye problems??? I hate to hear that, give us an update please.

I'm sure Charles found Augie a delight and of course you already know how charming he is. Pep knows how to make her guests comfortable and feeling like a member of the household. I hope you got a chance to give Charles a tour of the garden.

Peppi, your dinner looks fabulous and I'm glad I've already seen a picture of your good looking Dad so I don't have to use my imagination with this fuzzy picture, LOL.

Eye troubles are just fine. In about 2 weeks I'll be good as new :-).

I'm making the apricot torte tonight. I keep thinking about how good it was...thanks Peppi! LOL!
