Tornado (?) at my folks' house last night

My sister called me at 2:20 this morning. She was a basket case, bawling and just saying over and over, "The greenhouse is gone! It's just gone!" The greenhouse (a big commercial one like Ron's) was welded to a 4" pipe base, and the base was buried. She said it ripped some of the base out of the ground, twisted it, and broke it off. The debris is in a heap in the yard, and I'll bet we find some of it in the surrounding pasture and crop fields.

She and my folks are fine (albeit weary from being up all night), and I'll go over at first light to help survey damages and take pictures.

Oklahoma had severe storms all night that are continuing this morning, and we're supposed to have more today (hopefully those will be east of us). The TV was on all night and said there was circulation on the road my folks live on - but just that quick, it was over. Hope fellow Okies stay safe.

Oh goodness! Sounds like it could have been much worse, but I am sure this cleanup will be enough!

We are expecting some unsettled weather today too...praying that there will NOT be any tornado!

OMG! Glad it was the greenhouse and not their house!! It sure does sound like a tornado.

Well it's either that or this budlight I've been drinking.....hiccup! :) KYgirl - Yep, they got the copper pipes too. Don't ya remember...we're building "up in the hills" of KY LOL. We're not in a neighborhood. There is only one house close to us. It's across the street and he didn't hear or see anything. You know, you would think that the people that buy the copper would wonder where Joe Blow gets a truckload of copper per week. I'll never understand the mentality of any of the people involved in this. Kharma seems to be trying to get my attention lately. I think I'll follow BJ's advice in another post and hide out for a while.

Rebekkah, I'm so sorry. I hope you will read some of the posts on this forum, including old ones. You will see that you are most definitely not alone. Your mother was young, but not everyone lives to an old age. Many of us lost parents when we were quite young. I was nine when my mother died. I remember thinking similar thoughts to yours: I wanted to take back some of the things I said to her. I can tell you this, though. Not being about to take back things said in anger made me very cautious about what I said to people after that. After the age of nine, I never said anything in anger that I regretted afterward. I'm particularly sorry that you had to witness the medical efforts to save her. If these images persist in your mind, please see a therapist, someone experienced in helping those who grieve and particularly those who have experienced trauma at the same time. Re fairness, try to remember that life is neither fair nor unfair. It just is. When you think about what goes on in the world, it's easier to accept that statement. This was nothing you could have prevented. It's absolutely not your fault. Please try to live as your mother would want. She will guide you for the rest of your life. What would Mom want me to do? is a question you should ask yourself often. At some point you should read Motherless Daughters and Letters From Motherless Daughters. Good books. Finally, keep your heart and mind open to possible signs from your mother. They may or may not come, but if they do you'll want to recognize them. And some night she may come to you in a dream. Darlene, I been growing two varieties in 6b for 8-10 years, they come in when the last orchids come in for the winter, they're both out for the summer as of this weekend. I usually get blooms indoors and out. About every 5 years I have to start new plants from cuttings because the older plants are getting too large, I ditch them once the new ones establish. Yes, definitely too close for comfort. Must be shocking and terribly frightening to experience one of those forces of nature. And pretty scary for you to take that call in the middle of the night.

The local TV station was showing nasty weather conditions across the country this morning and they highlighted the heavy hail storms in Oklahoma. They jokingly referred to hail stones the size of marbles, golf balls and in this part of Oklahoma - the ones the size of canned hams.

I'm glad I've managed to avoid those so far - I hope you have too!

My prayers are with you and your family, Rita. The weather service may still not call it a tornado. We had one here in 1992 that I KNOW was a tornado, I watched stuff fly in circles! They called it straight line winds. Hopefully, you won't have any more severe weather today.

Oh, my gosh. That is scary, Rita. I hope the insurance covers it, and I'm so glad it wasn't the house (at least as far as you know, I imagine you're over there right now looking around) and no one was hurt. Phew.

I hate hail. It trashed Woody's truck 2 springs ago and broke a few of our roof tiles.

My prayers are with you and your family, Rita. That sounds like it might have been straight line winds, but they are just as damaging as tornadoes. Thank God no one was hurt.

Glad you and them are fine. I was wondering about you all. It's just a bit north of here now. Really black sky here, but the tornadic stuff is north, near Nowata.

I hope, we get through this one unscathed.

Looks like March is going out like a LION for sure.

I'm sorry about your family's damage. Edmond got some damage but I didn't see any in my area.

I am glad they are safe Rita. Hopefully there was no damage to their house. It sure has been a rough time weatherwise this year.

How scary Rita. And the season has only begun, sad to say. I hate tornado season, which used to be about May-July. Now it can be anytime. I won't even go to the cabin if there's storm in the forecast. I'd rather be here where my basement is.
I hope everyone is okay, and there isn't a lot of damage for them. I saw the red/yellow storm area on the weather last night, and wondered about you all.
