What tests do you think are necessary for geriatric cat physical

Hi Guys,

I was wondering what tests are important for my 15 year old cat to receive for his annual exam. He is fine now and I'm just keeping tabs on him to hopefully catch any problems early. My vet offers a geriatric profile for $140 which includes exam, blood pressure, urinanalysis, stool check, thyroid test, and a slew of other blood tests. The alternative is to save about $50 and just get the basic blood work routine before receiving anesthesia (ALT, BUN, CREA, PCV, TP).

Just wondering if "the works" actually gives us relevant data or is just redundant. Usually he needs a dental cleaning so the bill keeps going up and with my other 2 cats approaching geriatric status I want to be a smart consumer.

Thanks for any input you have!
