Help me find a 'spring/summer' area rug

Now that we've rolled up all our area rugs to send out for cleaning (due to a Skunk Incident), I'm thinking that instead of putting the family room rug back after it's cleaned, I'd like to find a seasonal replacement for it. I think about this every year, but I never do it because I haven't found the right rug. Here is my "winter" rug:

It's a wool Safavieh rug. I think it's 8 x 11, and that size works well for the room. I don't have pics of the room, but it's open to my kitchen, which has off-white and cherry cabinets and green granite counters. There is a dark red leather loveseat in the room, and a gold and red striped chair. The walls are BM Cheyenne Green, trim is Natural Wicker.

Any suggestions for a lighter/airier rug for the warmer months?

What is your style? The current rug lends a clue, but what is your "look"? Would sisal or jute be too casual? Would a braided chenille rug be too 'crafty'?

Hi All, I just happened to check back in and noticed I had received more comments. Ingrid - I totally agree with all your comments. At first I was thinking about a large square wooden table but thought it would just be to much wood so I have decided on a square table with partially wood and glass. I do plan to change out my pillows. Still not sure of what type of art. I'm not that good in decorating as you can see because I get so overwhelmed. You mentioned blue....what color blue...dark...light? It's funny you mentioned pink....I took samples of my drapes and sofa to a rug dealer and he showed me some area rugs with some pinks but I could not decide. He did let me bring one home..no pinks..more greens..and I did not like it. Just did not work for me. jejvtr - I will do as you suggest and tape it off and put the pictures back out here to see what all of you think about the size of an 8 by 10. I do plan to put a sofa table behind the sofa but I want it to be the same as the coffee table I choose. Do you think that is a good idea? I do want a 100% wool rug. I have never brought an area rug before so I am not sure what price determines a really decent good rug. Can you help in that area :-) Suggestions? I have $3,000.00 that I can spend but if I dont have to spend that much to get a great rug then I won't. valinsv - I love Karastan rugs. I have searched the web site and they are just gorgeous but as usual I get so overwhelmed. yayagal - I checked out the link and I think that one is a little to busy for me but I like the colors. I am opened to any suggestion.....my husband is on me about getting this room completed so I can move on to the next. :-) ambitiousbeginner

Help me find a spring quilt for my bed?

I use coverlets because once I went through menopause I was always too darn hot no matter what. I found a hydrangea quilt by Martha Stewart for Macy's. It is very springy looking IMHO, however I have the double/queen in our country home and It is about 5 inches too short. I have the same quilt at our other home and bought it in the king size for a queen bed because my other one was too short. The king size one is too long. You would think that instead of being chintzy good old MS would have insisted on a true queen size in addition to twin, full, and king. A coverlet meant for a double bed is just not quite long enough for a queen bed!

We keep the large living room rug throughout the year. Other smaller rugs, runners are rolled up and stored away during the hot summers in los angeles. I like the feeling of cold floors under my bare feet. We also use this switch to air out the oriental rugs, dust them, sun them and put them away. Aesthetically, I like to change the look of our rooms from winter(cozy) to summer (cool).

Personally I prefer the Indian type print because of its colors. The black-and-white looks too random with your current colors. You could look for a very light tan or beige-y that would blend well with your brown and rust scheme. A big round one.

Sorry Dilly. As soon as I posted this, I knew that part was missing. I am one of those people with an undefined "look" but you could probably call it eclectic. The house is a 1920s Colonial but I have a combination of contemporary/Shaker style furniture, Mission/Arts & Crafts style, and, well, Pottery Barn style for lack of a better term. I keep thinking Sisal, but I have no experience with it and it seems to get lots of mixed reviews. This is not an area where anyone sits on the floor or anything, so "scratchiness" isn't an issue. And I like that look. Braided is an option; I just haven't seen one with colors that really work for me.

Any other thoughts on sisal or jute?

Sisal was my first thought when I read this. It would look gorgeous with the reds and golds and it would lighten the weight of the leather and those colors.

Forgive my poor memory.. but is your room the one with framed travel posters? If so, I definitely think sisal would work nicely.

funky, yes, that's me. That was my living room and the room I'm working on is the "family room" (which is really more like a "sitting room") off the kitchen.

Anyone order any sisal rugs from Overstock?

I bought a sisal rug from....shhhhhhh the orange box. It has a bit of red binding, and has worked very well in our room. I use it spring and summer when the wiglets are in and out more than they are during the school year. It has held up well to 7 girls and 2 boys 8 and under, and one old cat who likes to sharpen her claws on it :^(

Update: I ordered a sisal rug (well, according to the customer reviews, there is some question as to whether it's sisal or jute) from Overstock for a great price ($170 for 8x10) and it arrived yesterday. I like it! I will post pics later.
