What exactly do you need help on? Are you planning to buy at Macys? If you are, then go there with your camera and printouts of your pictures, fabric swatches, etc. Ask the staff to look at rugs that are about 8x10. Some will be totally unsuitable, of course. Take pictures of the ones you like the best. If you fall in love with one, that would be great. Post some pictures for us in this same thread.

You might also mark off the 8x10 with blue painters tape to be sure this is the size you want.

Ambitous, The small rug dealers in my area will let you take rugs out to your home--they wrap them up & you can see them in your room. If you go to one of these guys you will get better perspectives. I am waiting on my soaf & chair but i have done some browsing...& the big --guys say you buy we let you bring it back w/restock fee--The small dealers (three I visited) all said by all means you take several ..see them in your room, then decide ..we want you to be happy--this is what I am going to do. I think the prices are very good too.

I would definitely go for a square coffee table for your area. Something that is partially or completely glass or clear plastic would look really great, especially when you can see a beautiful rug underneath.

In a way it's a no brainer as far as your rug is concerned. You really need for it to have deep pink and gold in it, in addition to any other colors it might have. I would look for a carpet with strong, darker colors to ground this room and the couch. Your room is beautiful so far, the right rug and coffee table will make it spectacular. I would not choose a traditional table, but rather something modern and with clean lines. I would add some vibrant gold pillows to the other ones on the couch to give some life to the whole scheme. The pillows you have look a little drab against the curtains. I love your wall color. Some interesting and vibrant art on the walls would also look great. I think this room would look really great with some blue accents to play off the color of the couch. Some beautiful blue pillows might also be a good idea.

I agree about taping off the 8x10 - to make sure it fits properly before making such a big purchase. Also, a place that allows you to take the rug would be helpful too.

I removed our coffee table fr. our living room as I felt it was a real impediment to traffic flow - really like the room open. You have room for a sofa table behind the couch and another end table which may work - just a thought

Lots of places offering great prices on rugs now, don't be in too much of a hurry to purchase - it will be the largest piece in this room & will likely have to outlast everything else in the room.. Go with 100% wool if you find what you like & can swing it in your budget.

BTW - you didn't mention budget or type of rug you would like, that would help people her "find" one for you

First I agree to tape off the space you are considering to make sure you have selected the right size. Macy's can sell you a smaller version of the rug for you to take home and check in your space before committing to such a large purchase.

I agree a lot depends on your budget. Have you considered Karastan rugs?

I just happened to check back in and noticed I had received more comments.

Ingrid - I totally agree with all your comments. At first I was thinking about a large square wooden table but thought it would just be to much wood so I have decided on a square table with partially wood and glass. I do plan to change out my pillows. Still not sure of what type of art. I'm not that good in decorating as you can see because I get so overwhelmed. You mentioned blue....what color blue...dark...light? It's funny you mentioned pink....I took samples of my drapes and sofa to a rug dealer and he showed me some area rugs with some pinks but I could not decide. He did let me bring one home..no pinks..more greens..and I did not like it. Just did not work for me.

jejvtr - I will do as you suggest and tape it off and put the pictures back out here to see what all of you think about the size of an 8 by 10. I do plan to put a sofa table behind the sofa but I want it to be the same as the coffee table I choose. Do you think that is a good idea? I do want a 100% wool rug. I have never brought an area rug before so I am not sure what price determines a really decent good rug. Can you help in that area :-) Suggestions? I have $3,000.00 that I can spend but if I dont have to spend that much to get a great rug then I won't.

valinsv - I love Karastan rugs. I have searched the web site and they are just gorgeous but as usual I get so overwhelmed.

yayagal - I checked out the link and I think that one is a little to busy for me but I like the colors.

I am opened to any suggestion.....my husband is on me about getting this room completed so I can move on to the next. :-)

Well I am back again and as you can see I still have not found a rug or table. But I did come across this one yersterday while I was in Thomasville.

I have posted the website and the name of the coffee table is Ernest Hemingway San Sebastian Rectangular Coffee Table. The lady at the store said I get 50.00 off up until the end of this month.
