I love, love, love eating asparagus and have been eating it all winter. I would rather eat local asparagus especially the thin wild stalks that I have picked along county roads. I put it in a frying pan with a tiny bit of water and just cook until the colour turns bright green then I sprinkle with a few drops of lemon and a grind of pepper. My brother once gave me a crate of asparagus from his store and I ate every bit of it. Funny story about my Mom. Asparagus was her favourite vegetable. Like you she would eat it canned or frozen or in soup. After a time after she had Alzheimer's I put asparagus on her plate and she "freaked" out and threw it on the floor. She said she didn't know what it was and there was no way she was going to eat that funny looking thing on her plate. I told her it was her favourite vegetable and she told me she hated it and wouldn't eat it. She ate it a week before that and never ate it again. LOL Anne

It was delicious. Nodakgal...duck sauce is that sweet orangey apricot sauce you get with things like egg roll in a chinese restaurant. It's also found in the supermarket with the Chinese food things like soy sauce. For those who think the recipe sounded disgusting...you should look at the ingredients on some of the dressings and marinades that you buy. You just might not be familiar with making them from scratch. Mixing sweet with hot, and a combination of spices is far from exotic...or disgusting. Watermelon (and cantaloupe) is being used in many salads and cold soups this summer. We had a fantastic watermelon soup at a restaurant just a week ago. This morning's newspaper had the food section devoted to melons in salads and entrees.

and i'd like to swat the parents for letting it go so long! yes, we have problems with our grands (no kid is going to be perfect), but all 7 are better behaved because they've been taught from the day they sat at the dinner table! did like the idea of the cookies rolled in different flavors, though!

Eh, she's o.k. I guess. I've seen short pieces of her show here and there. I'm talking 5 min. or less. I prob wouldn't like watching the whole show all the time. Now Oprah on the other hand, I can not STAND that woman. All she did was talk over people and look at the camera to make sure it was on her. I will never in a million years understand how she got so popular and ridiculously rich. Everyone always says what a class act she is, not in my opinion. Her shows were trash in the beginning, like Jerry Springer, Maury etc. trash, now that she's filthy rich everyone thinks she classy. Nope, she can just buy expensive stuff, lol.

She's okay. My daughter loves her. I find her voice grating. Shrug. Good for her. I'd rather see her on my box of Triscuits than watch her show.

I'll watch one of her 30 minute cooking shows if it's one I'm interested in and haven't seen before. But any more than that is overkill. IMO
And that Simply Delicisio drives me absolutely batty. It's like they took Rachel Ray's body and added a fake hispanic accent. *shudders*
Used to love Paula Deen, but she's gone over the top now too and I can't stand to even watch her anymore.

I was one of the people who said she was over-exposed and getting on my nerves. But, with that said I still say good for her. If you compare...oh...Britney or Paris...Rachel is a good person who contributes SOMETHING to the celebrity world. And reading that she is 39 years old..yikes...I would have thought much younger...so I guess that might be aging me....and she might not be perfect...but I think if we hung out I would really like her as a person. And she CAN cook....homespun stuff, but that would be just fine by me.

I'm happy.......for her.
Not being sarcastic, it's nice to see someone "decent" become successful. I'm sick of the Paris, Snoop Dog, etc. people that don't "seem" to have any morals making it big.

Makes me wonder about all who contribute to their success (watch programs, buy product and such).

I think I'd like her in person, but she'd make me tired...quick!
I'm only 5 years older than she is, and I'd like to have half of her energy!!!

AMEN Deanna!!! Some of our "role models" are pretty disgraceful. If they want to "celebrify" Rachel, she's a darn sight better than Snoop or Paris or Brittney or Lindsay or Kim Kardashian!

I fully agree with you Deanna. Good for Rachael. I don't watch her very often but when I do, I enjoy her. I think I would like her in person too.
