I grew up on a dairy farm and to this day I still prefer fresh squeezed milk,,,,LOL

lazypup, had cousins allergic to cows milk, and he had goats that he milked.

Remember him trying to show me how to milk a goat and got squited.. Childhood memory.

Sometimes I make it fresh. Usually try to eat oranges whole as it's supposedly better for you than juice.

We wintered in Florida one year when our eldest was about 1 year old. I remembered my mother's pleasure in finding Temple oranges in Illinois, so when I saw them in the stores, I bought one of those reamers that fits over a small bowl or wide glass and a bag of Temples. We bought them every other day and had fresh orange juice all day long that winter. I have not had such good orange juice since then, which was about 35 years ago.

I do have oranges on hand but usually eat those whole. I have an electric "reamer". I drink more grapefruit juice though and squeeze it myself.

After living in Florida for 27 years, we had an electric juicer that I still use from time to time.. We buy bushel boxes of oranges from the Mennonites here and so I do squeeze oJ when I can get those...

I grew up on a farm as a kid and had "cow milk" fresh every day... so much better than the watered down stuff bought at the store.. I do have a Mennonite friend that has a cow, and now and then I will go there to get a bit of "cow milk".. what a treat !!

I generally buy "Premium" orange juice, marked "not made from concentrate". Let someone else do the squeezing. Occasionally, if I see really nice oranges on sale-Cara Cara or Valencia or similar, I buy them and use my electric reamer. Love the taste of fresh-squeezed juice, even the pulp! Unfortunately, due to medications I'm takling, I don't eat grapefruits or drink their juice.

I cut up about 14 grapefruit and oranges every week as part of my fresh fruit salad that DH and I enjoy every day.. There's plenty of natural juices in the process. I'm going to miss that salad come summer months, but won't miss the cutting. I spend about 3 hours a week on fruit salad.

I love fresh squeezed orange juice, but rarely drink juice. There are just so many carbs in such a small amount of juice. So, I normally eat mine as a piece of fruit because I feel like I'm getting more!

Glenda, how did your mother make milk toast? That was always what my mom fixed for us when we weren't feeling well.

She'd make the toast and butter it, then tear it into bite size pieces and pour hot milk over it. She also added a little salt and pepper to it, and I just love it! One of those things I make now for a rare treat for myself!

Sometimes I squeeze my own.
Next door neighbor has two orange trees.
When Jake and Mio came over the summer, they got to pick oranges and make orange juice. I think it was the highlight of visiting grandma.
Jake told me that fresh orange juice was much tastier that orange juice at the restaurant. Smart kid!

We enjoy the Florida Natural brand orange juice -- the variety 'With Pulp'. They claim it is 100% fresh squeezed Floria juice with no concentrates or additives. It is pasturized, so perhaps some nutrition gets lost there, but that also means that it keeps well.

jel, mother would I think bake the buttered toast.
Then heat some milk, put the bread in a cereal bowl, pour milk over it, then I think maybe a little bit of butter, covered it with with a saucer so the bread would soak up the milk.

I've never made it, but have fond memories of having it for breakfast. I liked it.

had to give up orange juice and yes, my mother often made her own until it appeared in the stores frozen, lol...

i still have a juicer but doubt if i'll ever use it again, sigh...

I would think it is a lot more expensive to fresh squeeze, considering the cost of whole oranges. We do buy it almost daily when we travel to Mexico, generally the entire month of January. A dollar will get you a large (16 oz) cup.

Ina Garten has a juicer, which she uses a lot, and if I did a lot of juicing , I'd love one.

I don't drink any kind of juice. Glenda, I still have one of those old juicers but it is metal. I still use it to make lemon meringue pie. I was brought up on raw milk but now you can't buy it.

I also grew up on fresh squeezed milk that I squeezed out with a milking machine every morning and evening for many years. I remember stopping at some relatives who lived in town after church one Sunday morning. That was when we couldn't eat 3 hours before receiving Holy Communion. Anyway as the adults sat there and talked the lady asked us if we were hungry. She made us all a bowl of cereal. I wouldn't eat mine because I said I didn't like the taste of town milk after I had tasted it. I remember everyone got a laugh out of that one. Now when I go to my brother's dairy farm I don't like the whole milk that they drink. No I don't squeeze my own orange juice but I like it.
