do you or have you made your own sushi?

I want to do this. I bought the sushi rice today and was going to get the nori but the store was out. I need to get a bamboo mat too.

You need seaweed rollers too. Haven't seen them in my local stores.

Yep, I threw a sushi party many years ago. Bought a large slab of raw tuna, cucumbers, avacados, made my own wasabi paste out of water and powder and the sticky rice (with sugar and vinegar), fanned it so it would dry shiny. I used a bamboo roller for the maki and manually wrapped the hand rolls. Drank lots of hot sake. It was so much fun! :-)

I use 511 regularly, where I work we provide machinery that focuses on cleaning grains, plastic extrusions, reclaimed sheet rock, reclaimed glass etc. we separate unwanted fines, or unwanted particle sizes from many various products via screening, air aspiration as well as other methods. This brings me to my question about gritty mix, I just happened upon some poly beads about 3/16 diameter, could this be used as the grit fraction in gritty mix? What I mean by grit is the the granite, or the inert fraction of the mix, the beads seem to be nearly inert, I process all my pine bark through a machine called a reel eliminator, it has various sizes of screens so I can dictate what particle size I want by varying the screen size, I always look for the bags of pine bark mulch that looks some what composted, and separate that into the fines I want, typical what ever will go through a 3/8 screen. I processed 4ea. 2.5 cubic bags in 10 minutes last week, sure makes it easy compared to my screens at home. I am wanting to make up some gritty mix primarily for some citrus trees in my greenhouse, these polystyrene beads have become plentiful and don't weigh very much. "Fabric softeners contains fats and/or oils to function as a lubricant to make fabric fibers slippery for a softer feel to the touch. Vinegar does not have a lubricating effect." That's somewhat true, fabric softeners have chemicals(QUATS) which coat fabrics so they feel softer. In my new home, I have a housekeeper come every other week. I like clean homes. I do NOT like the actual job of cleaning them. I'd rather work in the garden, or do some cooking, or deal with the chickens, or keep up with physical maintenance and house painting/staining, or do graphic arts or anything else. I'm fine with doing laundry, too. I clean up after myself in the kitchen, but the housekeeper does floors, bathrooms and general dusting/windows and such. And I now have a robot vacuum who is pretty decent at what he does. He even has a name: Sharkey. I'm not crazy about cleaning his filter, but it comes with the territory and lasts five minutes... I didn't have a housekeeper back at my old CT home. One reason my getting out of there and getting the place on the market is taking so long... especially since I then had a full time job that lasted well over the standard 40 hour work week. THIS one will be clean! But it doesn't need to be anally-House Beautiful clean. Simply lived in and tidy. My reasons for not wanting a fully white kitchen or other rooms are not about appearing clean, but about my just only wanting white as an accent. Aesthetically. That's what works for my sense of eye appeal.

I did this for several years. Not sure what grocery store, but they had a complete kit with the bamboo mat and also the seaweed, and can't remember all the other items. Made our own for quite a while. We got hooked when we went visiting on the coast and ate it for the first time about 15 years ago. We have moved to the coast and can find it at most restaurants now, and also have a friend that makes it all the time and loves to share with us. Hopefully you have a speciality store in your area that has all the supplies. When we were making our own the store also sold the smoked salmon for sushi. Good luck in finding the items. We love sushi.

I have the bamboo mat and the nori but haven't made an sushi.
I love going to visit DS and DDIL because she makes great sushi. She is such a good cook.
