Do you have your own signature color?
Comments (25)There's a color at Lowes, I think it's called Sand 2 (I think it comes in 1,2,& 3). It is a great neutral, but with color, if that makes sense. It's neutral, goldish, greenish, not too dark or light. My decorator friend says everywhere she uses it, people love it. It's her old stand-by! I've had a color from Glidden in my family room for about 14 years (we repainted it same color). I've loved it in my house, with my lighting. Unfortunately, it totally read peach (not in a good way) in my sister's house. She repainted it. So what works for one person, doesn't for the next. I like to change colors from room to room, but keep them all the same quality. We have one level, so all the rooms are pretty easy to see in to. It' kinda bad when you turn the corner and see your teenagers bright color! LOL! Good luck!...See MoreHow was YOUR Christmas - what did you get - did you have fun?
Comments (1)I had a very quiet Christmas, and just as well because it was a stinking hot day (35C at 7am!) and there was no energy to breathe, much less anything else. My son and his lady came for breakfast, the first of many visits they had scheduled for the day. This was just fine by me. I got them when they were full of Christmas spirit, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, and by the time they left their appetites were ruined for everyone else's food! The best part of the breakfast was that THEY did all the cooking - I just 'supervised' and provided the food. We had a lot of fun and laughter together exchanging our little gifts, and when they left, I was able to recuperate by sleeping most of the day in front of the fan, or beginning to read one of the several books they gave me (from a list I'd prepared of Must Haves). My sleep was, however, disturbed by a number of phone calls from interstate friends, all very welcome. And in the evening a friend visited, ostensibly to watch Dancesport on TV with me (we are both into ballroom dancing), but mostly to escape her rowdy family at home after a mountain of a day. (She often uses my place as a refuge when things get A Bit Much.) In between these interuptions, I had the opportunity of watching all those silly little Christmas shows on TV. You know, Frosty the Snowman, The Little Drummer Boy and so on. I have a sneaking liking for these little things - maybe I'm in my second childhood! All very pleasant indeed, thank you....See MoreJust for fun, what would you do?
Comments (16)newdawn, thanks for all the pics. The Healing Aloe and Quiet Moments are much more blue IRL than those samples look on my monitor. We have no drapes yet -- putting up some kind of simple shades or blinds for now, will worry about curtains later. I'm trying to keep the windows very simple to keep the focus on our great views. No rugs yet, either! I'm waiting for a rug I like at PB to go on sale -- it's a natural fiber (sisal, I think -- haven't looked at it recently) w/ blue border that matches the quilt. The bed is a white iron bed; headboard only. Chairs and such would be great, but when I say it's a small room, I mean it's a small room! We have space for bed and nightstands and that's about it. Partly because we have some wacky ceiling angles that limit furniture placement, but I'm not complaining. We have a big closet that we will put a bureau in. I have already bought a large print of hydrangeas in colors similar to all my above colors, which will go over the bed. (Our yard will have lots of hydrangeas!) Remember how I said I had the Matine quilt? I don't. I bought this stuff sooo long ago, I forgot what I actually bought! What I actually have is a solid color porcelain blue quilt (from PB -- it coordinates w/ the Matine blue print) with the Matine toile bed skirt and shams! *Duh* So, now that I've realized that, I'm pretty sure I'll paint the nightstands white because I'm concerned that blue nightstands next to the blue quilt will not look right. I may have to do a version of newdawn's dresser above, though, because I love that look! Here are some pics. I'm going down there tomorrow and the second floor will have been painted... can't wait to see color on the walls! This is what the exterior looked like a couple of months ago. The big square opening on the second floor is the master bedroom window that overlooks the water. Where the ladder is -- that's our balcony. On the first floor on the left is our new screen porch, something I have always wanted! This isn't too exciting, but it's the hallway upstairs, which is enormous to us. This hall has 4 windows overlooking the back yard and a skylight at the top of the stairs. There will be a window seat under one of the windows, across from the top of the stairs. Here are some not-great shots of the master bedroom. They might require a bit of imagination. Here you can see a bit of the windows that are across from the bed, and the door leading to the balcony. This is looking from the far end of the room, toward the door. As you can see, we have a fairly long "hallway" leading to our door. I have a 6' long pretty ledge w/ hooks that will go on one side of the hall. It's not really wide enough for furniture. The door on the left leads to the master bathroom. The partial wall on the left is the closet wall. This is looking from the front windows back toward the closet. The closet won't have a door. Architect was trying to create some extra "openness" in our small room... which is why I had to pay extra attention to the closet wall color! This is the wall where the headboard will be, if that's not obvious!...See MoreWhat were some things you just had to have in your house?
Comments (21)I have two dream homes. One is on my family's lake property, which is small, is on the south side of the lake, and is on Minnesota, so severe winter is an issue. There, I want low maintenance, energy and space efficient, good cross ventilation. An open floor plan with informal dining. A screen porch with a sun deck above. Main floor bedroom and laundry. Probably floor heat under Marmoleum in the living space, to accommodate wet, sandy kids coming out of the lake. It needs to be two-story, because of the small lot size. The lot is level, and I don't want steps; the basement will be storage and storm shelter, but not living space (no windows to speak of). Upstairs, I want bedrooms for guests, and an open area overlooking the deck for a game table - my family loves board games and jigsaw puzzles. My other dream home is in the woods somewhere, more of a cozy cabin - though not log. I love the look, hate the maintenance!...See MoreMy House
