Special Goodie Delivery!

I was about to leave to run some errands when there was a knock on the door. It was the postman with a large package from Texas! One of the Wild Rice Lottery winners went way overboard with a package of thank you goodies. But as they say "they say everything bigger is Texas." Apparently that applies to thank you gifts also!

Trixietx (aka Karen) and her husband are farmers. One of their crops is peanuts. I opened the box to discover freshly roasted peanuts - which doubled as the "packing peanuts" for the other goodies! Also included in the box was a lovely bottle of Llano red wine from Lubbock, a bottle of Red Mud BBQ sauce from McLean, and a delicious looking bottle of creamy dressing from Quanah.

I left my camera at my Mom's house on Christmas. Otherwise I would be posting a photo of this delightful package of goodies.

Thank you Karen! I think I need to share some of these peanuts with Joshua who drew your name for the lottery. I have never tasted peanuts this good.

I am so pleased that the whole family is enjoying the Dipsticks. We love them! I have all of the Marcia Adams cookbooks EXCEPT for the Christmas one that all of you are talking about. I will have to look for that one now. I love Lars's description of the show. The quilts and pottery that she has at the end of the show are always quite interesting. I have not seen the show in awhile. I know that it is no longer in production because Marcia Adams had some heart problems a couple years ago. However, the show was still running for awhile after that. Not sure about now though. Anyway, I am really happy that you are enjoying the items that I sent, and I hope you save a little of the apple jam to try out that coffee cake. Gail

Thank you! I've been able to resume my workouts and start getting my confidence back. I've not noticed any side effects from the medications. I've lost 1 lb. this week. Better tracking my saturated fats. Sodium is good. It seems like I've been enrolled in some sort of health coaching through my insurance plan. I will follow up on that on Monday.

Teresa, I hope nothing was broken and that you will enjoy what I sent you because I know we will enjoy your MN rice.

We live in a rural area (population 2500) and I am always mailing peanuts, the post office expects it this time of year. When I went to the post office to get boxes and they asked me what size I told them something big enough for a bottle of wine, a bottle of BBQ sauce, salad dressing and peanuts (what a combination.) They all started laughing and I told them the reason why I was mailing this. I just know they are all jealous now!! They have never tasted real wild rice.

Nothing was broken except a couple of the packing peanuts. They did not go to waste though - I just had a snack of peanuts and a hot toddy to prepare me for shoveling off my deck. Enough of the snow melted over the last couple of days that is is now only 12" deep at the door and about 2 feet deep further out.

Thank you again Karen. I gave two baggies full of peanuts to Joshua and his brother. That along with Lou's chocolate crispies and some of the other treats that have come my way recently - I think I have a couple of life long friends in the boys!

A wonderful way to start a new year!

Actually, I have cooked brown rice with fresh peanuts. It works. I think it will work even better with wild rice.

Teresa, I used some of the rice today making your recipe for baked rice and it is delicious. It is being used very sparingly! I am going to have to look up where you said we could order it because I know I will need more.
