Oh yeah I got my package from Katie! WellÂ. truth be told I got it a few days agoÂ. but she forgot one item so I patiently and politely waited until the last piece arrived to post. Yeah, thatÂs right.

Katie sent me local goodies! She must know I love beer can chicken Â here is a new piece to add to my collection*. This bowl, made by local potter Bruce Sondahl, is my favorite color, blue. Katie has told me that he has an Âhonor systemÂ by which people pick the pieces they want and leave payment in an unattended area. Trust! The BBQ sauce that goes with it (still counting as one item) is another local creation. Yum!

Number Two in the package was an incredible zebrawood angled spatula that Katie and her daughter picked out for me. I had to fight off my husband. IÂll tell him weÂll have to go up to KatieÂs area on a trip so he can pick out one for himself, instead. I bet he takes me up on it.

Number Three in the package is something special and personal that Katie knew I would appreciate. Katie knows I am a huge public library fan. I am always calling her Âmy favorite librarianÂ. She wrote: ÂI struggled over the paper item. I finally decided to send one of the last of the Library Lady Cookbooks. You are one person who truly appreciates your library and I thought you would enjoy reading the excerpts from the ladiesÂ minutes over the years. This book was originally printed in 1948, again in 1988, and in 1998 we added recipes and new pictures for the final reprintÂ. Katie, IÂm honored. IÂve already shared one of the recipes on Discussions. Most of the recipes seem to be intact from the period and I can easily update the ones I want to tweak. Mostly they evoke the warmth of a different era. I love thumbing through and reading the notes!

Jessy, you really cleaned up. I love the pottery chicken cooker. Today's potters are getting quite creative in what they produce, like the dipping plate that Janet sent to me. No more limiting themselves to coffee mugs! The color is very pretty, and nice to have the bbq sauce ready to go. The spatula is a piece of art.

Love the cookbook. I'm a library lover, too.I'm president of the board of my library. We also have a cookbook that was put together back in the 70's and recently reprinted. I wish I'd included that in my swap box.

It all looks awesome! I've pulled recipes for beer can chicken but never made it (at least not yet), but that dish is really beautiful (and inspiring)! Great Blue! and the colors in the zebra wood... Wow!!

And the Library Ladies' Cookbook- with 50 years of contributions - looks great, too!!

I think what CMK may be saying is that often our tastes change during our gardening career :-) I don't mean this in any disparaging way but as with many other hobbies/avocations, the more time we spend doing it the more knowledgeable we get and sometimes that bumps up our plant sophistication level as well. I can confess to being a plant snob but I've been doing this both personally and professionally for a long time and my tolerance for the commonplace is often lacking. Typically because the commonplace is so due to its ability to proliferate freely........IOW, they are weedy :-) And as I and my garden matured, maintenance continued to be a pressing issue - too many plants, too little time and dwindling energies. So I eliminated a lot of perennials in favor of those that really sang for me or that offered multiple seasons of interest. Today, my new gardening space is so limited that I've fined tuned that list down to my 'must-haves'. And there are very few commonplace plants in that selection. But if I had the energy, help and acreage, I might not be so strict or limited in my selection. I also remember when in hort school the students sharing a list of plants they didn't like (mostly shrubs but a few perennials and trees as well) because they were so commonplace. While a few of them still make the list (tam and pfitzer junipers top it), most of us have relaxed that ban simply because - as noted above - these plants are workhorses and do the job with minimal attention. So common can equate to good :-) Depends on the plant!!

What beautiful pottery! I'd never heard of a berry bowl before, sounds like a great idea. And how nice to have something you'll have for years to come, to remind you of the swap. I didn't realize huckleberries were so big in Idaho. I've had them in Washington State and have been on the look-0out for plants here in Ohio with no success. With the amount of work involved in harvesting and preparing them, I can well imagine they are priceless products! Earlier this year my niece prepared an elaborate report on Idaho which I think may have gained her honorary citizenship. As the piece de resistance for her classroom presentation, she had one of those Idaho Spuds for every kid -- and saved one for her auntie. Scrumptious! If that's not the spud that made Idaho famous, it's just a matter of time! Nice job, Katie, and congrats to Debbie.

Last nights game was a nail bitter that's for sure!! Lakeguy had too much lake yesterday...LOL (at myself) caught the second half and was a aspleep on the couch with my laptop... LOL at myself again! Not a big fan of the NBA but I'd had my eye on the Thunder. Our first NBA team for OK. Couldn't pass up a bet with EJ so here you have have it folks.....thankfully NO Speedos involved Cathy..LOL...that was fun too. I'll be ready for College and Pro FB again. EJ, not sure about those biscuits....found them in the cheese section of WF. I'm thinking they were a special thing as I've not noticed them there before. As far as packing up one of those boxes....I've had practice sending them to Justin. Keep the Gold too! It's next on the list of canning. David

What a nice swap package! Love the pottery chicken cooker, and the saute spoon! Bbq sauce looks good, as does the cookbook. Enjoy your wonderful things. Great job Katie!

I can attest to how good the bbq sauce is! And the chicken cooker is fabulous.

You put together a great swap package Katie! I'm intrigued by the beer can chicken bowl. I've only ever seen them done on the bbq, but I would love to see how it comes out in that bowl. The zebrawood spatula is gorgeous as well. Enjoy your lovely gifts Jessy, we'll be looking forward to seeing recipes from your new cookbook!

Wow, I've never been a fan of Beer Can Chicken, but that beautiful chicken roaster might change my mind. That is really unique. I like the fact that it catches all the drippings so you could easily make gravy too.
The wooden spatula is a gorgeous piece of wood. Better hide it from DH Jessica.

And I'll bet there are some wonderful recipes in that cookbook. I hope you will share some of them with us.

I just love that spatula, both beautiful and useful, a perfect piece of kitchen equipment.

The color of that platter is equally beautiful, and I'll be watching for Jessica to post recipes from that book.

Oh, and Katie, how much did it cost you to take "the kid" swap shopping, LOL.

I love the beautiful colors in the spoon. I'd be one that would put it away and not use it...

The roaster is not only beautiful but very cool in that it catches the drippings. Great idea!

Fabulous! Reprinted old cookbooks have such great recipes...definitely tried and true! The wooden spatula is beautiful - and cooking a chicken using your new pottery is priceless! Congratulations on a great swap - maria

That chicken cooker is not only beautiful (I love that shade of blue) but very unique! I've never seen anything like it before,

You'd have to fight me offf for that wooden spatula, too, Jessy! And regional cookbooks are so much fun!

I too love beer can chicken!..so that cooking bowl is amazing!!!!!

Oh and I looked close at the tag on that zebrawood spatula..and it's made just an hour plus north of me..in Ferndale..I recognized the area code as MINE..LOL so looked closer...

That bowl is so cool. Talk about the perfect thing to cook a chicken in. I'll buy one in a heartbeat if I ever see one. I had to laugh when I saw the magazines. My best friend in tech school when I was in the service was from Sandpoint. He and I had my only involuntary visit to a police station in Lake Village Arkansas in 1975. If your ever there don't flash your high beams at a Chicot County police officer.

That bowl is a beautiful blue. I can't believe such a lovely thing is a beer-up-the-butt chicken cooker! LOL, Katie wherever did you find such a thing? You must have been jumping up and down on that find! Too awesome.

Another fan of Beer Can Chicken here and that pottery is very beautiful. I would be affraid to use it!! That sauce is wonderful and I know the cookbook will be a great read with some good recipes. Another cool box Katie! Enjoy it all EJ!
