DH and I drove into the country yesterday to an indivual's nursery that I had learned about from some nurses who work with me. I came home with four hostas in gallon pots ($1 each) and 12 azaleas in three gallon pots @ $5 each! Yes, five dollars! I love azaleas, and was very tickled to get them at this price,

I am sure to go back, because he has a number greenhouses we didn't even look into. I know he had shrubs like forsythia and a lot of boxwoods and conifers and the like. I didn't even look at the azaleas for $1.25 for a one gallon pot of azaleas.

That is a great find with both the nursery in general and the plants you took home. When I was doing my shrub border I would go to Home Depot early each spring and they always had Azeales in Gallon pots for $5 and $6 bucks. No way would you ever get a three gallon for that size. Even the price on the one gallons was fantastic. I looked at the fancy nursery and the same types of Azealas were $35.00. Of course they were larger, but I didn't care, I needed a batch of them and the price was right at Home Depot. They grew quickly and are stunnung each spring.

I bet it doesn't take long until you go back and snag some more goodies for the garden.

There are so many home or small local nurseries in the back woods here. There is one quite a bit south of us that I will go to when I get the garden expanded. Rumor has it that her stuff is amazing and unique! I can't wait.
We are also so lucky to have growers outlet. They are very inexpensive. Perhaps if you dig around some more you'll find more little places. Do you have a local GW forum? People list some rather hidden places on our Georgia forum sometimes.

You can go on Joanne's website and search for Crypton. Link below. There are a number that are on sale now at half off. And the starting prices seem lower than on the Crypton website or on 'designer' websites. The 25% coupon is there on the right side of the page. Good only through today. But the offer does come back now and then - fori is right about that. In their stores there is often a 40% or 50% off sale for one cut of fabric. Other sites have Crypton for way less than you were quoted. DIYupholsterysupply.com has a huge selection, overhwelming really, at around $30 - $38 a yard. No Crypton currently in their closeouts ;( Newtoto.com has some great pricing on Crypton, $10-15 a yard, but maybe only 80 or so selections to pick from. Great deal if they have something you like. Smaller remnants of several yards are as low as $7 a yard. Good for a chair or chair seats. They send free samples promptly, and offer a $4 color chart so your take on the color is more accurate (Brilliant idea! I bought one). Warehousefabricsinc.com has good pricing and selection but more for drapery weight. I haven't figured out how to search for Crypton there. Schindlersfabrics.com also has good selection, especially higher end stuff, but again not the easiest to navigate if you are looking for something specific. thanks everyone!! like a lot of you, i was kind of indifferent to leather until i found that store. in fact, we were planning to get the same microfiber couches we had purchased in our last home just before selling it, because the buyers ended up purchasing them with the home. so we figured we'd get 2 new ones, but since then, the fabric options have changed and we don't like ANY of the fabrics. but they were super comfy and pretty nice looking and the price was outstanding. they were from JCPenney which is not the first place i think of when i think of quality furniture. but, i stumbled on those couches because we needed a set that came in 2 sizes that would both fit through an odd shaped basement hallway and it was very difficult to find. anyway, we gave them a shot and they were fantastic. if anyone's looking for a really inexpensive but super comfortable upholstered sofa, check out the Possibilities sofas at JCP--they come in 3 arm styles, and while none of the fabric combos worked for us, there are a lot to choose from. it' just that last time, there was one fabric but it came in like 18 colors. now they have 3 fabrics and each comes in 5-6 colors. anyway, a great value for comfy, attractive sofas if anyone's looking, especially with the labor day sale - i think the basic fabric one is like $619! there, i've plugged them after a minor diss. we went from this ($1500 combined for 2 full size sofas): to gray leather and nail head trim in about 24 hours. :) and lol cyn427! i'm not shy about posting photos, but sadly we've got a long time to wait! we probably won't move in until april and we won't have them start building the couches until 4-6 weeks before then. haha PS: if anyone is wondering, the sofas we bought are from The Leather Sofa Company, made in the USA (actually about 10 minutes from where we live in Texas). on the second page of the spec sheet it has a chart with one section labeled temperature raise. One module only does a 22 degree temp raise at 4 gpm. SO if your groundwater is 55 you will only be able to raise it to 77 at 4 gpm. I like my water at least 100 degrees, so if the water is 55 and you need a 45 degree raise, it will only do 2 gpm, that's with NO other water mixed in, so it will take a long long time to fill. You said its 110 gallons or so, at 4 gpm it will still take 25 minutes...so you need something that can put out enough hot water to fill it in about 10-15 minutes (so it doesn't get cold waiting to fill) . I know I like it warmer than 100 (maybe 105?) because back when I was pregnant I used to use a pool thermometer because they suggest pregnant women not bathe in over 100 degree. I was OK with 100, but wished it could be warmer! If you have gas, then price out a dedicated tankless for it. Its probably easier then running a special electric line assuming you have gas anyway. As far as the 75 gal tank. If it heats water to 130 and you use all 75 gal, that means you are mixing that 75 gal with cold water...how cold does your water get (didn't notice your location)? Try mixing 7 cups of your hottest water with 5 cups of your COLD water and see how it comes out. (I think that is the same proportions as 70 gal hot and 50 gal cold=120gal.

I have a similar kitchen... builder grade cabinets, the awful soffits (yes, I hate mine too), etc.... I painted my cabinets a little over 5 years ago, new counter, backsplash, and appliances, and new flooring - I love the updates but the soffits still haunt me. I hate them. No matter what, I hate them. My next plan is to remove them, buy new uppers, and get new doors for the bottoms. I wish I would have just saved up money and got all new cabinets 5 years ago but I was eager to paint mine after seeing everyone on Pinterest paint theirs. I think you have a great space to work with, but I feel your pain on the soffits. I do like your idea of open shelving in some areas. I've seen people remove their soffits, build boxes, and then get new door fronts - it looks nice, but I think I'd rather just get new cabinets after all that work.

Went to a growers' outlet in Oklahoma last week....the hostas were mistagged in many cases, and some showed obvious signs of the dreaded HVX, with Monrovia tags on them. I didn't buy any. The ferns were hopelessly mistagged, tho I did get a few I could identify. The rest of the plants and trees were mostly overpriced, and not in really good shape. I didn't buy much. For such a huge place, they didn't really have anything I wanted, or could do better on at a regular retail nursery. It wasn't worth the trip.

I give up on grower's outlets, it's back to the trusted and true places for me.
