i'm just too excited to not share this with you!!

so, we don't even have concrete at our new construction site, but we just purchased our 2 sofas for the living room. the living room is part of a great room including the kitchen and casual dining room.

we've never owned a piece of "traditional style" furniture, and we've never had leather sofas! up until i randomly wandered into a leather sofa company store, we hadn't even considered leather! but today we bought 2 full size (92" long x 41" depth) traditional style leather sofas. our new house is going to be very eclectic and we just loved the classic look of these but in less traditional color leather, and got a killer deal over labor day sales. we only had to put 25% down and can cancel if we change our mind, but the deposit holds our share of the leather we chose at the factory. each piece is made custom. we chose the style, leather, legs, and nail head trim.

except in this distressed gray leather with the silver nailhead (but it'll be larger nailheads than this) and the same legs.:

i'm really glad to have picked these out because i probably would have chosen a darker wall color before we picked this leather. now we're going to lighten up the walls. eeeeek, squealing with excitement.

Maggie.....I have never been a leather fan at all but but
I said , "Oh, my goodness, wow", when I saw your sofa!
It is a stunner. You chose well with the gray because you
can go in any direction with colors.
You won't be limited in any way as you would have been with burgundy.
I love it.

I love that! I am looking at similar sofas but not considering leather. That is stunning and I agree the distressed gray is perfect. Enjoy!

Yeah, my neigbhors asked me how I was able to achieve that many plants. They saw me working on the garden around early March. They were curious about the garden beds I was making. They saw the milk jugs. I explained to them what it was and also gave them the Wintersown site. I actually watched their reactions when they saw it. They didn't pay much attention to it kinda like "oh, ok". However, when plants started to come out/bloom, they went back to me and asked, "was that from the tiny greenhouse". :) I'm going to make more beds maybe by fall once my knee gets better. :D Thanks mnwsgal! :)

Spicebush - I planted a Redbay and had some success with it but then several Camphor seedlings came up as volunteers and the Spicebush use it more now than the Redbay. However, Camphors can be invasive so many people would say they should be pulled up. Polydamas use the tropical types of Pipevine as well as the other types like Tomentosa and Serpentenia (sp?). I have lots of the Calico, which is tropical, and they love it. Pipevine Swallowtails can't survive on the Calico even though they will lay their eggs on it. I have to move them onto the Tomentosa, which I find hard to keep alive and it grows much slower for it so it doesn't get time to recover when even one cat eats it down. That is why I only occasionally raise the Pipevines. Zebra Longwings use the Passionvines - BUT not the red ones, only the blues/purples. They prefer Maypops or Incarnata in my yard when it is in the shade. They are now feeding on Carelua, as well. Gulf Frits use Passionvines too. They like it in the sun though so they can share the Incarnata. They also lay on the Suberosa, which most people consider a weed since it will grow over shrubs and kill them out. It looks more like an ivy and has tiny whitish flowers. GFs use it year round for me here. However, they have been scarce this spring in my yard. I seem to be going through a lull in the numbers right now. Go the the FAQ at the top of the forum page. There is lots of good info there for host plants.

I totally get your excitement. I have a few citrus trees started from seeds years ago - lemon, key lime, grapefruit, and satsuma orange - some of which are pushing 4 feet tall but none have flowered... yet. I'm sure when they do I'll be gushing on here just like you. Congrats! Make sure squirrels stay the hell away from them - they will pull every little fruit off they can when they are small. It seems like once they are golf-ball sized squirrels then leave them alone. I have lost entire treefulls of lemons, oranges and grapefruit to the stinkin' squirrels.

Vivey, it's not cheap. The fee is $300 for the online version I"m taking. But it's a good program and I'm pretty impressed with the video lessons, the handouts and the course over all. There are always activities or Labs at the end of a chapter and there is a lot of interactive discussions on line with the activities. If you can swing the charge for Online, it's well worth it.

Oh my. Wow is right! I totally agree about your choice of the grey. It is lovely. You do understand that we will all be waiting for pictures of the finished room, don't you? It is kind of a requirement! ;)

thanks everyone!! like a lot of you, i was kind of indifferent to leather until i found that store. in fact, we were planning to get the same microfiber couches we had purchased in our last home just before selling it, because the buyers ended up purchasing them with the home. so we figured we'd get 2 new ones, but since then, the fabric options have changed and we don't like ANY of the fabrics. but they were super comfy and pretty nice looking and the price was outstanding. they were from JCPenney which is not the first place i think of when i think of quality furniture. but, i stumbled on those couches because we needed a set that came in 2 sizes that would both fit through an odd shaped basement hallway and it was very difficult to find. anyway, we gave them a shot and they were fantastic. if anyone's looking for a really inexpensive but super comfortable upholstered sofa, check out the Possibilities sofas at JCP--they come in 3 arm styles, and while none of the fabric combos worked for us, there are a lot to choose from. it' just that last time, there was one fabric but it came in like 18 colors. now they have 3 fabrics and each comes in 5-6 colors. anyway, a great value for comfy, attractive sofas if anyone's looking, especially with the labor day sale - i think the basic fabric one is like $619! there, i've plugged them after a minor diss.

we went from this ($1500 combined for 2 full size sofas):

to gray leather and nail head trim in about 24 hours. :)

and lol cyn427! i'm not shy about posting photos, but sadly we've got a long time to wait! we probably won't move in until april and we won't have them start building the couches until 4-6 weeks before then. haha

PS: if anyone is wondering, the sofas we bought are from The Leather Sofa Company, made in the USA (actually about 10 minutes from where we live in Texas). The style is called Sardinia and the color is Venza Gray.

I love the sofa, but I really love your enthusiasm. I sense adventure and happiness, and to me that should be a part of decorating- as they say, it's not only the result, but also the journey.

Are you SURE you don't want that 2nd sofa (chaise) style? Can't you envision yourself lounging on it and saying, "Dahling, I'm ready for my brandy now..."

maybe someday pammyfay... but our lifestyle today is more like "honey, quick! the dog threw up, DS took his diaper off (again), and DD is playing hide and seek with her blueberries and cheerios on our cream colored area rug!"
