DH and I were shocked that she made it into the Wild Card group on Idol. What was funny is that she BARELY squeezed out a tear at the corner of her eye...

Had to laugh at your "subject" line. I knew EXACTLY what you were going to say. I watched tonight and totally agree - not sure what we'll do if she wins.

She can sing and she brings the crazy which brings viewers. She could be around for a while.

Imabirdnut, I don't water my Rue at all once it gets established. Even in the drought this summer, I just ignored it. It did great - much better than had I watered it even the smallest bit. Are you growing it in the ground or in pots? I did not have any luck with it in pots either. It likes partial shade and very dry soil, with some clay in it, rather than potting mix in pots. It bloomed like crazy this summer with not water and quite a bit of shade in my backyard, but it has taken some experimentation to figure out its likes and dislikes, and it is also a short-lived perennial - 5 or 6 years max - after which it gets very woody and won't resprout from the woody stems. In the Northern zones it can take a lot more sun, but from the upper south to warmer zones it prefers some shade fromn our hot sun. I may have actually bought 'Attraction' which I believe is smaller in size. As long as the butterflies like it, whichever it is, is okay with me, too. I had a Nanho Blue that did not attract them at all, so I hope to avoid that problem.

It's Saturday and the sun is finially shineing which hasn't happened for about a week with all our rain. I decided to go to two local nurseries in my town just to see and because I felt like going out. First stop was this nursery out on the highway that I have watched to see when it might open for 3 years. I kid you not. It used to be a boarding stable and has a large property. I don't see how anyone could carry the taxes without opening for such a length of time but its finially open. They must not want anyone to notice as there is just a very small sign by the gate that said open 9-5 which is new. The grounds and buildings are stunning but there is a small amount of plants for sale. Not even a third of the place looked used to me. I bought a black eyed susan vine and just looked around. Went to another local nursery that I have been too many times before but they didn't have anything I needed so I am back home. Guess I will go outside and plant stuff I bought yesterday.

My husband and I are in agreement that Valentine's Day is just a huge marketing ploy. If your "special someone" truly loves you, and you truly love your "special someone," then you shouldn't need a designated day to do something nice, thoughtful, and/or romantic for that person. In fact, if you (or your "special someone") only do something really nice, thoughtful, and/or romantic for each other once a year - on or near February 14 - then I would question the sincerity of it. There are two days each year when restaurants set up extra tables/chairs. They do it in such a way so that the average person can't tell that the restaurant isn't normally that crowded. They do it so that they can cram in more people and make a bigger profit because they know that folks want to dine out on those two days. (No, Easter and Christmas are the two days when folks who don't normally go to church decide that they will finally attend a service.) The two days that are super crowded in restaurants are Valentine's Day and Mother's Day. I'm not a mother so that day's clear, and the last time hubs and I went out for dinner on February 14 was in 1982, and we swore "never again!" I'm lucky in that my hubs is super romantic. He plans surprise trips for me that are incredible. He brings me breakfast in bed, he's been known to greet me at the end of the work day with a single long-stemmed rose; or has a dozen roses or a dozen Shari's Berries (chocoate dipped strawberries) delivered to my office - timed perfectly to be placed on my desk when I'm away from it so they're sitting there as a total suprise when I return....

:-) I would not have driven that far normally except that I really have been wanting a vintage desk for my DD's room and the neighborhood was in a nice area near the city that I am somewhat familiar with, so I felt comfortable making the drive. The seller not ponying up extra pictures should have been a tip, yes. But I felt rushed because she was moving out and it was a now or never kind of thing. Usually in those circumstances I go "safe" and just let the item go but in this case I went for it. I must say that I'm a little taken aback by the notion (I'm not saying they were directed toward me) that seemingly "well-off" people shouldn't use craigslist or the thrift store. I could probably come across as being at least a little well-off. I drive a new SUV (only the second new vehicle in my life) and carry an expensive handbag. I like to wear nice clothes. But my SUV is very "basic" inside, not many extras. I have only one handbag to my name, I take care of it, and it is several years old. At home we manually chop firewood and heat our house with an outdoor wood furnace. I wash out my plastic ziploc bags and reuse them rather than grab a new one, I brown-bag every single day, and so on. I do like to be frugal in some ways Â not buying new furniture is one of those ways. I don't have the money to buy all the new furniture pieces I want for the house, so used is my option. I certainly don't "over-haggle" and most craigslist prices I've seen I thought were fair and paid them without question. I would not falsely denigrate an item if I really thought it was great. I agree that would be annoying. If I want to barter down, I would say Â I really like this, but I am only willing to pay X for it Â if you still have it and want sell it later for that price, feel free to re-contact me. I have to agree that it is not so much the price that the original seller paid, but rather the fact of what the buyers are willing to pay that drives things. If anyone is still reading, all my dealings with craigslist thus far have been very good Â I make sure I have email and phone communications with the seller ahead of time, and they must come across as very "normal". And the neighborhood has to be safe / low-crime or I wouldn't go. I always let my DH know exactly where I am going, and take someone with me. The items I've sold, I've always met the buyer in a busy shopping center parking lot.

They need her like they needed Sanjaya....controversy and people wanting her gone.

I'm not into Idol as much as I used to be....I'm thinking there's a lot of "fix" in it....sorry to say.

They're keeping her around intentionally. For what reason, I don't have a clue.

She is an annoyance factor and when we talk about it and the show it brings people to watch it and is advertisement for the show.

Thank you Heather. Somehow it had the opposite effect on me.

Says a lot about the way the contest is judged, even though her voice isn't all that bad. There were others equally as talented who were passed by.

While I don't care for her--it was a forgone conclusion that they'd invite her back for the wild card. And I'll go one further--I imagine she'll be one of the 2 girls the judges will pick to go into the top 12 (they almost have to pick 2 girls, finals are too heavily weighted with guys this year. and it's a girl's year to win.)

Without Tatiana in the finals, it looks like the only controvsy the show would have would be Paula drooling over Jorge. They NEED someone like Tatiana to insure the kind of notice and publicity the show is known for. It is Fox, after all. And unfortunately, the girl can sing, even if she is a nutcase.

As to voting fixing? Absolutely--I bring this up every year, but Season 2, the show did something to the phones the last week, where if you got through for Clay, you couldn't break the connection for about a minute--which meant he missed out on dozens of votes for every one he got. I tried calling Ruben's number and that wasn't the case, but it happend about 20 times, when I was able to get through on Clay's #. That was the last year I voted, because I realized they were restricting the numbers electronically, so the show could control the outcome.

Even so, I still enjoy watching. Haven't decided who my top fav is this year. So far, I actually like all the finalists they've chosen and think it will be fun competition (even if T. is included)
