Dark, dark, dark chocolate for me. I like milk chocolate okay, but it tastes almost watered, or should I say milked down. It's best with something mixed with it, such as almonds, but not by itself. It's too sweet. What I don't understand, though, is I like chocolate milk.

I prefer dark chocolate usually, but if only milk chocolate is being offered, I'll usually partake. I am also an equal opportunity chocolate consumer of good quality chocolate. I find most chocolate candies and candy bars in the US to be too sweet for my taste.

I have always preferred dark chocolate and for many years it was always the little sister to milk chocolate in the U.S. Good dark chocolate is becoming much easier to find in recent years. I didn't realize how popular it was becoming until we went to the Int'l Chocolate Show last year and dark was in the majority.

I won't refuse milk chocolate, though. LOL

Preference for milk chocolate here, but I won't ever say no to dark. Interestingly enough, my 8 yo is the big dark chocolate fan in the house, the higher the cocoa content the happier he is.

Key word is 'quality'. If I'm eating it out of hand, then I'll go for milk. There are some flavored (raspberry, coffee) that I prefer dark.

I've always preferred dark chocolate. Milk chocolate has no appeal for me, and I only eat it if it's part of an assortment.

I am not a big chocolate fan but if I do eat chocolate I'd go for dark. For some reasons I find dark chocolate a lot more satisfying than milk chocolate. I have a small amount of dark and the flavor lingers in my mouth; that's enough for me. If I ate milk chocolate I needed a lot more to hit the spot. Little man is just like me, he loves dark chocolate too. 70% cocoa can be too bitter for some but little man will have a bite and say "Hmmmmm yummy!"

I used to be milk chocolate only. Now, I find I like the Dark just as much, if not more. But then, I never like blueberries or cranberries or lemon before, either. And this is only since becoming a diebetic!
This summer, I craved anything blueberry. Go figure!

Not really a big fan of chocolate, the only one I can eat (with a huge glass of water as a chaser) is milk chocolate. Dark chocolate just isn't my thing. All this really breaks my husband's heart because he has to taste test anything I make with chocolate before I'll let it out of the house. He's a real chocoholic, the darker and higher % cacao the better. Crazy man.

Milk chocolate is like Lay's Potato Chips -- I can't eat just one. With dark chocolate, I can take it or leave it. I have lots of "self control" when it comes to the dark stuff.

Dark chocolate for me, please. I've even converted my husband and granddaughter to come to the dark side :-).

I'm glad to read that there are others here who re not a big fan of chocolate. I always feel like an oddball because I am not crazy about chocolate. However, I do prefer milk chocolate, and enjoy it sometimes. I don't like dark and I really can't stand white chocolate. Whoever had that bad idea?

Bittersweet dark. The first time I had a Leonidas truffle I was really surprised - Europeans eat a lot of dark sweet, not bittersweet as we do here in the SF Bay Area. I'm a Recchiuti fan; their bergamot is amazing and he makes the only white chocolate I've ever liked.

However, I will never turn down a Caramello or Reese's peanut butter cup, LOL!

Dark, now that I know what to get.
I used to like only milk because I found that the dark to bitter.
But we have a very good shop near us that makes wonderful chocolate and they have all percentages and I have discovered that my favorite is 59% rather than some which are around 72% or even higher. that to me is too bitter but if you ever get a chance to try 59% I think you will be a convert.

I don't consider milk chocolate "better" or "worse" than dark chocolate; it's just different. Each has its place. I tend to prefer the dark, though. I don't love chocolate the way some people do, so if I'm going to indulge, I want it to be good quality product.

When people came in and weren't sure what type of coffee to try (or buy as a gift), some of the things we'd ask were what kind of chocolate, wine, and beer the person liked and how they took their coffee. There are exceptions, of course, but most people who like dark chocolate, red wines, and dark beer prefer African and Indonesian coffees. It's not foolproof, but it works more often than not.

Jkom51, I've been seeing ads on TV for dark chocolate Reese's Peanut Butter cups!

One Christmas I made Ina Garten's Outrageous Brownies and sent the to work with DH for a party they were having. He brought them back largely untouched, which stunned me. Come to find out, what neither of us knew until that party, that none of his coworkers were chocolate fans. I've met a few people that don't love chocolate, and know one person that just doesn't like it at all, but never have I been anywhere that non-chocolate lovers were in the majority. As a chocoholic, I was flabbergasted.

One thing interesting about chocolate and some people who suffer with migraines. You'd think dark chocolate would bother them the worst, but its the opposite. Even now that I don't have migraines any more, I can still get a mild headache after eating milk chocolate, whereas dark chocolate doesn't bother me. Same with a friend of mine. So I've learned to prefer the dark stuff.

It really depends on quality, and although I like both, I do prefer dark chocolate over milk. Actually if it is good quality, It's bittersweet for this girl!

That said, chocolate is chocolate and I rarely turn it down no matter what the cocoa content! LOL

I loathe milk in any form, even if they do try to sneak it by me by adding chocolate!

I used to be a dark chocolate snob. Seventy percent or higher for me. And don't put anything in it, for pete's sake. Then two things happened.

First, I asked a guy in the NYC Whole Foods to suggest something for me to take in my picnic lunch on the bus back home. He recommended the Vosges Naga bar. It is 41% milk, toasted coconut and a bit of Indian curry. There are no words. This bar changed my life.

A year or two later, a friend brought some Swiss milk chocolate to my daughter. Did she get any? Well, yes...a bit! It was also amazing and convinced me that there is room in the world for milk chocolate!

Sadly, I am a migraine sufferer and have all but given up the brown stuff. Small doses only. :(

Dark, dark, dark, up to 85%. And though I can't remember the details on what makes dark chocolate healthy for you, I do remember that you can't get it from milk chocolate. So I'm happy to eat my health food--1 oz daily, with walnuts and almonds, for additional health.

Add me to the milk chocolate lovers. Don't see what the big deal is about dark chocolate.

Dark, dark, dark, darker, darkest. The higher cocoa content the better. I detest milk chocolate. No kidding. I just do not like the taste at all. (And I HAVE had the Swiss milk chocolate, and still do not like it). My hubby and two daughters also prefer dark. My son and his wife are milk lovers. And I do prefer the bittersweet.

I sort of equate different kinds of chocolate with different kinds of wine.

I used to prefer MILK chocolate and WHITE wine in my younger days.

I now prefer DARK chocolate and RED wine (beanthere, this goes in with your theory).

But I'll eat milk chocolate on occasion, just as I drink white wine on occasion.

White chocolate equates to Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill. Something I might've consumed as a child, but really, white chocolate is not really chocolate, nor is Boone's Farm really wine. LOL

I don't hate it, but put a chocolate brownie and an oatmeal raisin cookie on a plate and I'll choose the cookie every time! Well, except for a few days here and there when I really do CRAVE a tiny bit of chocolate! You KNOW what I'm talking about!

My preference is DARK. DH's is Butterfingers! I know that because when we were in Belgium I was excited about these small chocolate outlets are a popular draw for tourists. In Belgium much like wineries, tours of Belgian chocolate shops include tastings and exclusive souvenirs. Anyway, I was overwhelmed trying to make decisions and assumed by the puzzled look on his face that DH was too. I finally made some selections, he didn't. He finally said "they don't have Butterfingers". I was emnbarrased and told him to keep his voice down--crazy American!

If it's good quality I will eat either, but I must confess I prefer dark.

As long as I can remember I've loved dark chocolate. I think it has to do with the fact that it's usually less sweet than milk chocolate and also the fact that I don't care for sweet milky foods in general (I do not enjoy ice cream, milk shakes, etc.). I can taste the milk in milk chocolate, and it taste almost like spoiled milk to me. It's weird, I know. As others have mentioned, quality counts too. Some dark chocolate sold in grocery stores is inedible, as far as I'm concerned. However, I don't care for it if it is too, too bitter.

I'm surprised to see the amount of people who prefer milk chocolate! I thought all foodies would prefer dark chocolate for some crazy reason!

I also prefer milk chocolate, but I can eat dark. Dove and Toblerone are great no matter what flavor, but their dark chocolate is my favorite in the dark category.

Another non chocolate fan here. I do prefer milk but not plain. There has to be nuts, caramel, peanut butter, etc. I do like it when I eat it but can pass it by, have just one and there are no cravings for it.
