No drawers with glasses - only dishes. No problems with things sliding. Here's one pic:

No glasses here, either, but all my everyday dishes are in drawers without anything but a plastic drawer liner.

I don't have any pics but we just stack em in there like coolbeans - no issues. You can't pull open quickly or slam close the drawer or its possible for the top ones to slide off (the weight of the dishes will hold the lower ones down).

If you go with dishes in drawers I really recommend the soft close feature.

Glasses are no problem at all just store them upside down (with the open side down) - its actually quite natural to reach down and pull one out.

Only problem you will have is people not familiar with your kitchen will have a heck of a time finding stuff :)

We've had our dishes in a drawer for a few years and it's surprising how many you can fit even in a top narrow drawer. But we currently have a 36" drawer, and the new design will probably cut that width down dramatically, and go to a lower drawer like yours. Trying to decide between 21", 24", 27", but not sure what exactly would be practical. Your width looks perfect.

Is that a Hafele pegboard/peg system? I'm considering one but wondering if there are any alternative brands... I got a quote of $175 for the Hafele board and pegs for one drawer, which seemed a bit steep. If anyone knows of something else, I'd love to hear about it.

Where did you get your dishes?

We had similar dishes at our last house which we gave away because they didn't work in the kitchen when we moved here. Now that we're remodeling we're thinking about red again.

We have 6 drawers for dishes. But they are not as deep as mnhockeymom. I liked the IKEA system also, but I couldn't customize them to fit. I don't know the name of this system, but our cabinet maker bought 3 of the larger kits and cut them to fit the 6 drawers. Then ordered extra pegs. Saved about $200.

I don't have a photo, but I have about 10" drawers that I put all plastic beverage cups lip down in a stack of 4 each. I can get a lot of cups of various sizes in one drawer as you can imagine. I use a cushioned rubber mat in the bottom of all drawers to keep dishes from moving around. It give you a lot of immediate flexibility and is an inexpensive, excellent alternative to the pegged systems.

FWIW: I don't stack glasses, so the upper cabinets are the safest location for all of my crystal wine, tea, water, and juice glasses in my kitchen. I have dishes, pans, pots, and serveware in 33 drawers in my kitchen.

Sorry for delay in getting back to everyone! The width of the drawer front is 23 1/2" and the inside width (between the side rails) is 21". As for the system inside, I *think* it's Hafele - my cabinet maker offered me that one or the one where the plates are stacked in something that can then be lifted out of the drawer and carried to the table - since I require my kids to set the table, I didn't want them carrying a stack of dishes to and fro.

As for the dishes themselves, they are from Williams-Sonoma, their Belvedere line, but I can't seem to find the red ones anymore. If you find them, let me know!!

I put my dishes and glasses in drawers next to the dishwasher. My family is so happy. My 6 year old doesn't have to ask for help getting a glass or plate. So easy to unload the dishwasher too.
I am using the IKEA dish holders. Love them but I am not sure how durable they will be over the years. Who cares when they only cost $5 (I think)!
I have only one upper cabinet. It is my coffee area. Mugs are kept there.

I went with really shallow drawers, which still allows me to stack plates as deep as I would want to, and gives me 5 drawers in one bank. Normally I have a lot more bowls in the bowl drawer, bur I think most of them are in the DW right now.

Sorry I don't have pictures right now, but I have many of my dishes and bowls in drawers and it works great. In my old kitchen I kept all my mugs in drawers and I really liked that too. I don't have a peg system or dividers, just non-slip liners and fully extension soft close drawers. I find it really convenient.

I found a peg system by Merrilat that is only $40 for a 36" drawer. Haven't ordered it yet though. Here's the link:

I also used the rubber in my drawers like muscat used. Sorry I am working on learning to post pictures. But my Island has Three large drawers. The top drawer has my silverware with wood dividers, and my kitchen utensils such as large spoons, Forks, Salad Thongs, etc. Next two drawers hold my kitchen dishes, service for 12. I like the rubber mat

Here's mine. The drawers are 36" wide and 8" deep. I use liner from Walmart and have no problems with dishes sliding around.

Does anyone have pictures of glasses in drawers? Especially regular glass drinking glasses (as opposed to sippy cups, etc.)

I have a similar system as hockeymom and lisa . . . I bought pegboard and the uprights separately. The only thing I don't like is that the uprights ar little sharp on the edges and I occasionally scrape a knuckle. Next kitchen I'll track down the dowels or go for the Ikea lifters, which I think are neat.

My drawer is a 36" pots and pans drawer and it works great. I do, however, keep my glassware in an upper cabinet.

Here is a picture with my glasses. Someone on the foreum told me about lifeliner and I went out and bought it last week at BBB. My glasses don't move at all. Every one loves how easy it is to get a glass (especially my 6 year old).
