Medallion Victoria Cabinets? Show Me Your Drawers... please? :)

hi!

okay i have this nutty 11th-hour idea to mix the Victoria door-style in my kitchen... but the DRAWERS only.

it's really hard to tell what it might look like from the Medallion photos.

if anyone has these, would you please post a pic of your drawers? (oh i know that sounds tacky!) especially the two-drawer base cabinet if you have it.

i'd really appreciate your help. especially if you have painted cabinets! tinycastles are you around?!

Hi Iron,
I replied to your email from last night with another possible solution. Order Carlisle door fronts and turn horizontally...and apply to your 2-drawer base from the Designer series.

I thought I had a Victoria door here in my showroom but it has disappeared. I was going to take a picture for you next to the Carlisle! Sorry. Now seeing the photo you posted above that shows more detail, I don't care for it with the Carlisle door. I think it is too 'pillowy' and detailed to go with the simple elegance of Carlisle.

If I find that door...will post a pic for ya.

Everyone, This is the picture of the Victoria drawer front mixed with Carlisle door. Ironcook photoshopped this together. Here, it looks OK. But seeing a more detailed shot in the stained/glazed door above, I think it's too much.

Your choices:
1. Get the 3 drawer pot and pan base in Silverline
2. Get the 2 drawer pot and pan in Designer, the order 2 doors and apply horizontally

Overhangs are generally measured from the cabinet box, not the door or drawer front. E.g., for non-inset cabinets (framed or frameless), a standard cabinet is 24" deep but the standard overhang is 25.5" deep. This 1.5" covers the door or drawer front (usually 3/4" to 1" thick) plus the slight bit of opening b/w the cabinet box and the door/drawer front. Then add another 1/2" or so to extend past the door so spills are directed away from both the door/drawer front and the interior of the cabinet/drawer. The overhang has to extend past the doors/drawer fronts, not be as deep as them. It's also a good thing to cover most of your knobs & drawer pulls so they're not digging into you as you lean against the counter. With inset cabinets, the 3/4" or so for the doors/drawer fronts isn't needed, so a 3/4" to 1" overhang is usually plenty.

I have one in my dr. My home is older and it was here when we bought but I do not think it is orginal. It seems to small for the room but it doesn't bother me too much. Is your home older? Is your style tradition? I think your home and your style make a difference when using a medallion. sorry this is a pic of it from last christmas. And this is another view of its scale sorry this is from my DD's bday, all my normal pics of the room do not seem to capture the ceiling.

Cabinet hardware, to a certain extent, is driven by the style of your cabinets & kitchen as well as the color family (silver/gold/copper/etc.) you're using for other components. There area a lot of different styles. Have you gone to a major home improvement store or several kitchen show places to see what's available? Look at styles first, then color family or other composition. In my experience, most styles can be found in various finishes & at various price points (often an indicator of composition & finish quality...but not always!) So... What style are your cabinets? Your kitchen in general? The rest of your home (particularly if your kitchen is open to the other rooms)? What color family are your appliances and other fixtures...faucet/soap dispenser/air switch, sink, hinges (if not hidden), lights, etc.? What color is your countertop (e.g.. if black, often silver-family items look better...but not always.) Cabinet color? Note: As with all decorating, these are guidelines to make it easier, but they are by no means "rules"! You certainly can mix color families, etc., but when you have no idea what to do sometimes this type of advice helps. In my case, I have a transitional kitchen. My color family is silver...pewter pendants, antique iron hardware, satin nickel faucets/soap dispensers/air switch. Black countertops. Cherry cabinets w/mandarin orange stain & coffee glaze. While my sink & appliances are all SS and certainly fit in the silver-family, I think they're neutral enough that they will also fit with most other color families as well. I put knobs on all doors & the 6" pullouts flanking my cooktop. I put drawer pulls on all drawers & the trash pullout. The knobs are spaced 1" in from the side and on the upper cabinets 3" up from the bottom edge, while on the base cabinets 3" down from the top edge. For the drawers, I put one pull on drawers = 30" wide. The pulls are centered vertically. Horizontally, when there's one pull, it's centered; where there are two knobs, they vary...the ones on the 36" drawers are 8" from the edge, on the 33" drawers they're 7-1/2" from the edge, on the 30" drawers they're 7" from the edge. Don't have pix yet (soon!), but I used two 4" pulls on my 36-inch and 33-inch drawers (one pull on my 24-inch and 27-inch drawers). The double pulls give a "furniture"-like appearance, as you've seen in others' photos. If I could have found a more traditional-looking 8"-10" pull that I considered affordable (I needed LOTS of them), I think I would have gone that route. But I don't regret having used the double-pull scheme, which actually had been recommended by the cabinet guy (and he wasn't selling the pulls).

oh, my drawers are showing! ;)

UPDATE: hey everyone, kompy saved the day!

you can order the base cab (2DB) without fronts, and wall cab doors of your choice, then flip doors horizontally at install!

this works because this is a mitered door style.

so i am VERY happy i don't have to give up the big drawers to store my frying pans, muffin tins, etc. on their side.

and i didn't have to substitute a door that wasn't quite right... okay way not right.

Sorry ironcook! I somehow missed this thread til now. If you want pics, I could try and get some of my base cabinets for you. They are not installed yet...soon though. Probably within 2 weeks.

In my opinion, the drawer style of the Victoria is quite simple compared to the details of the door. I have two 36" drawer bases, and two 24" drawer bases on perimeter. In the larger drawer bases the drawers seem almost plain to me, especially when one takes into consideration the applied moulding and detail on the Victoria doors. When I first saw the drawers I was underwhelmed, to say the least. In retrospect its probably better they are more simple, since I intend to do a pair of lavish furniture style pulls on the drawers.

Don't know if that helps you at all or not. Let me know if you still want pics:) FWIW mine are glazed cream (Oyster Heirloom), and not white white.

hey, tinycastles... thanks a lot for posting. i remembered your post from when your cabs arrived. thankfully kompy figured it out for me, so no need to go to any trouble. but i appreciate the offer.

i think the simple Victoria drawers are a nice complement to the the more ornate doors. and that's a really good point about the the lavish pulls; they become the "star" of the drawer then.

your cabs are beautiful, and i look forward to your seeing your kitchen. thanks again. :)
