I am trying to make 3 or 4 playlists of music to workout to.

What are your favorite songs that just make you want to get up and dance?

Lovely shots of the garden and the red tulip closeup. But were is the picture of you dancing in the garden? You would think Bowie would lend his support to such a joyous ocasion but I don't see a picture of him dancing either :-)) Congrats on you daylily winnings. Totally inappropriate! There should be some rules at these dance competitions so the dances are more age-appropriate. I think most of the fault lies with the dance instructor (who most likely chose the song, choreography and costumes).. although parents should have complained after they saw their child practice the dance moves at home.. and when the skimpy costumes arrived. My (then 8 year old) DD was in gymnastics and they had a show for parents at the end of the year. I didn't know what exactly would be done at the performance, but DD did practice some of the things at home and I did know what the costumes looked like. Fortunately all they did was very age-appropriate.

Oh wow, anyone not familiar with R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet"? Where you been?? For those who don't know, it is a 12-part epic song that plays out like an opera (or hip-hopera) replete with various characters and complex plotlines. It was laughed at, parodied and discussed ad nauseum all over blogs, TV, music and the entire entertainment world throughout all of last year and cited as the worst - or at least the most hilarious - song of 2005. The videos are priceless. Many people love it purely for its cheesiness, the lyrics sound like they were made up on the spot in the studio. By accident. You have to hear it believe it. With lyrics like "Then I went up to the closet, and I got into the closet, now I'm trapped in the closet, and he's walking up to the closet." What a great idea, Magic. I've wanted to do this but didn't think I could come up with enough songs. What a good idea to ask KTers! I'm going to watch here to compile a list. I think they'll be good for walking with the ipod.

Pata pata by African singer Miriam Makeba. I cannot sit still when that song is on!! If I'm home alone I dance!

Also Santana has some good music too.

Susan, for walking with the iPod try Paul Simon's "Graceland" album. "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes," "You Can Call Me Al," and all the others. The backup group is Ladysmith Black Mambazo from Africa. YouTube has a wonderful video of Paul Simon and the group performing songs from this album live in Africa.

Yes, I love Santana, too.

Now . . . as for dancing, I'm gonna keep checking this thread and take notes!

"Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" by C & C Music Factory. I think it was recorded in 1990 but it's still a groove maker. Oh yeah ;o)

She Works Hard for the Money has a great tempo for working out, running.

Great thread. I've already added some of these suggestions to my MP3 player and listened to them while walking this morning. Toni Basil's "Mickey" is another good one. I download mine from Amazon.

I just listened to one of them: Maroon 5's "Wake up Call" and a very old one, by Santa Esmeralda, called "Don't let me be misunderstood (Esmeralda)" - it is one of those you just can't sit still if you are listening to it, to me. I use it as the last long one on my treadmill before I start the cool down. SUPER.

At this time of the year, Irish jigs....I'm constantly playing our dancer's music and although the mind is willing, the body just doesn't cooperate....I wonder if Michael Flatly needs a new partner.......
