Are you ever bothered by a song that gets stuck in your head?

I don't remember that happening to me, but I am sure bothered by the song stuck in the Mockingbird's head that has been singing the same exact song (it seems anyway) for the past 30 minutes. He is nearby, and flies from one place to another and is even singing while in flight.

I love to hear Mockingbirds, but after so long, would like to be able to turn them off. There has been one that sings way up into the night as I have heard him at 2 AM several nights.

I saw this post but have been to busy to respond. Lots of overtime at work, which is good. Didn't you have mockingbird issues last year? I was watching TV this morning at 4:30 AM and heard our mockingbird. It likes to sit on our chimney and sing. Of course his singing can be heard comming down the chimney into our wood stove. You can open the door to the stove and it's really loud. It acts like a megaphone into our living room. If you want I can make some recordings for you.

Among the more inane things I do upon seeing certain roses, is to utter particular words or phrases -- some of which happen to be song lyrics. There are three of the roses linked below planted next to my compost bin. Every single time I visit that distant part of the garden and see her ever-present and always cheerful blooms, I spontaneously greet her by saying, "Well, coo coo ca-choo to you!" A somewhat wacky lyric fragment from a really terrific song . . . The gardener's compulsive utterances, however, probably qualify as being stupid. Would it bother you if CD fridge stuck out 3 inches?

3" is exactly how much my GE Monogram CD fridge sticks out beyond my cabinets and trust me it must be this way. I learned the hard way when originally my fridge was nice and flush with my cabinets and just the handles stuck out. It looked great, like a built in. Thirty minutes later when I went to open the fridge for the first time and realized that the doors physically couldn't open I was frantic and distraught. Cabinet maker had to come back and take out the cabinet (yes it was in the middle of cabinet bank with my oven on one side and pantry on the other) and literally shave 3" off the back side of the cabinet and then slide it back it. Now my fridge sticks out 3" beyond the cabinet like it should have in the first place. At first it bugged me, because I wanted the built-in look, but now I don't even notice it.

Oh Daisy... that reminds me of my folks. In 1975 we lost the entire upstairs to my parents home and the ceilings caved in the kitchen downstairs. The kitchen was redone with all the colors of the 70s. Orange/yellow/avacado/brown all in one room. The counters were particle board until they sold the house in 1995ish. Dad put in a pc of laminate counter about a year before they sold. As for our ability to do this project- we've done it all. Heck, we just rebuilt our boat outdrive by reading the repair manual. As for the woodworking skills needed for the wall/surround thingy. It is all square boards. My only concern is having no seams show where boards meet. I think the wall behind tv will actually be one large sheet so as to be seamless. Flyleft really hit it on the head- WE ARE JUST TUIRED. We spend 10yrs making last house perfect, then found new house just as we were installing new floors in old house. New house had no yard and interior only had a few things needed, mainly the fireplace. Good news... since it was cool this weekend at night we built our first fire. You need to make sure there are no install issues before closing wall up. Everything works perfectly. DH was really happy. We started talking about moving forward so that is good. Someone asked what needs to be done first. I thought it was drywall but that is actually only for the interior of the recessed spaces. We need to take 2x4s and 2x8s and make the raised surround and mantle and mantle supports. That all gets covered up with the wood then trimmed with 1x4ish trim. The whole thing gets painted white. The mantle is pretty simple to frame as it is just a long box. We cannot avoid the flooring because when we took out the raised hearth it left a huge spot in front of fireplace where the new hearth needs to be put in. And since we are putting in the new hearth along with the tile around the fireplace itself, we might as well do the tile in the entryway also. DH said then we might as well do tile in the upstairs bathroom...see he is motivated... but I told him that could definitly wait as it is upstairs and is not urgent. I think now that fireplace works properly we can get going. Luckily he has Fridays off from work to fish, Saturday to work on house and Sunday to rest and play with kids. Two years ago it took me over a week to paint my vaulted livingroom/entryway- 25' ceiling. Decided last year I did not like the color. Took me two days to repaint. Amazing how fast you can go when truly motivated. I say this will be done by Christmas for sure. I will keep you posted.

Oh wow, anyone not familiar with R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet"? Where you been?? For those who don't know, it is a 12-part epic song that plays out like an opera (or hip-hopera) replete with various characters and complex plotlines. It was laughed at, parodied and discussed ad nauseum all over blogs, TV, music and the entire entertainment world throughout all of last year and cited as the worst - or at least the most hilarious - song of 2005. The videos are priceless. Many people love it purely for its cheesiness, the lyrics sound like they were made up on the spot in the studio. By accident. You have to hear it believe it. With lyrics like "Then I went up to the closet, and I got into the closet, now I'm trapped in the closet, and he's walking up to the closet." Thanks for the link Doris...what a great 'classic' song and performance. Few performers today can compare to the singers from the past. IMHO.

Hi Jim!
I went on a little 4 day vacation to SC last weekend. I had internet service 'woes' before that, and have gotten a whole new roof on in the last 2 weeks. I stayed in, by day when the 4 men were on the roof working...just call me shy, and then had a lot needing done (mowing...sigh)once they left in the afternoon.

We had some horrid way above average temps in there too...into the 90s...unseasonably hot for this time of year here.

The Star of Beth digging season is finally ended here, as the foliage can no longer be found. Now I can really 'start' my gardening year doing things most gardeners get to do once their temps warm a bit. Things are overgrown, and needing moved, or divided, and the weeds got WAY ahead of me, and the irises all need cleaned up a bit of dead foliage, and stalks cut off now that I can see which ones to leave that are making big ole seed pods. I hope there are really seeds in all or most of the pods, as I know oftentimes they just make empty pods.

Didn't you have mockingbird issues last year?
Not sure if I ranted about them, but do remember asking who all listens to and enjoys them, as so many don't recall ever hearing them and are confused as to what the MB sounds like, since he sings the songs other birds sing. Anyone who has ever listened to a MB knows that his song is very distinguishable from all the other birds.
That's cool that yours sings on your chimney and the stove acts as a megaphone. I've often thought about making a recording of him singing.

Yesterday I was working in an area out by the road, a good piece from where I was working Wed when he sang so much it was annoying. He followed me, and was singing non stop out by the road then yesterday. I don't think he is serenading a female MB, but is instead serenading me. Could it be?

I got a bit of the veggie garden tilled up, but things got in the way of getting anything planted.... Cut some trees down that fell into the garden area. It now looks like I might have to mud in the tomatoes and peppers as it is well past the usual planting time, even for me and so wet from the 2 days of rain here. Hopefully things will dry out soon enough that I can still get some corn planted. I'm not so concerned with getting other things planted later, but know corn has longer days to maturity than most things.

Could it be that I have already had too much coffee today?
