This video is making our local news today. I just got a chance to view it. It's causing a "LOT" of discussion....

Son had a large wedding and reception but because it was in the afternoon, no dancing. But if we did have a song it would be Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me." His small high school graduating class sang that to the parents then they gave the mom's a rose. Talk about crying! DIL knows what a close knit family we are and she loves how close I am to my son's. Now that she's a mother of a son she really understands the special bond between son and mother which is not like the old saying goes, "A son is a son until he takes a wife, a daugther is a daughter for the rest of her life." Heck, I still get onto my children! I'll always remember Barbara Bush speaking about Jr., "Just because he's the President doesn't mean he can put his feet on my coffee table!" lol

Oh, great thread, Lindac! I love reading everyone's memories. I grew up in my grandma's kitchen. (My mother was and is an abysmal cook and never wanted us in the way when she had to cook). Grandma's kitchen was always full of music--or Paul Harvey. She kept a radio on the window sill between the kitchen and the back porch, and it was always on when she cooked. The kitchen had a black and white tile floor, and when Grandma waxed it, we kids always wanted to sit in a chair and watch it dry. I have no idea why we loved that so much, but I suspect Grandma encouraged it because it gave her a much-needed break from us. The stove wall had ivy wall paper, and there was a curtain over the cabinet below the sink. The first thing we saw as we walked in from the dining room was a narrow wooden work table with a pull out drawer; it always had a big glass canister full of Planter's peanuts. The icebox and, later, the refrigerator was next and the back door to the porch right behind that. The kitchen table where we ate most of our meals was on the back wall. We only used the dining room on holidays and when we had company. On Sunday nights, we got to eat in the living room while watching Lassie. If Sunday dinner had been a beef roast, we ate roast beef sandwiches. Otherwise, we had BLTs and we ALWAYS had Campbell's vegetable beef soup with it. To the left of the kitchen table was the sink wall. There was a big window full of African violets over the sink, and a huge porcelain drainboard attached to the sink. My sister and I both had long, thick hair, and Mama or Grandma would have us lie on the drainboard to get our hair washed. I know there were curtains on the window, but I don't remember what they looked like--maybe they had strawberries on them? The gas stove was on the last wall. There was a black metal match box on the wall and a metal grease pan on the back of the stove. The coffee pot was always there, too. On especially cold days, Grandma would open the oven door and let my sister and me use it as a table, sitting on pillows on the floor and eating in the warmth from the stove. I remember sitting there in the fall, too, waiting for the parched pecans (from our trees and picked out by my grandpa on the front porch) to cool enough to eat. Beside the stove was the flour crock--a huge thing with a dough bowl covered by a hand-carved lid in the top. I think Grandma made biscuits in that bowl every day of her adult life. They were our staff of life. We'd eat them with bacon, ham, or sausage and eggs for breakfast, Grandma and Grandpa crumbled the leftovers into buttermilk for lunch, and we'd have a fresh batch for supper. Often we had them with tomato gravy. At those rare meals when she didn't make biscuits, Grandma always told us we'd have to make do with light bread :) Fruit and vegetables were almost exclusively from the garden, canned in the big old pressure cooker. Any time it came out, we kids got shooed out of the kitchen amid tales of a great aunt who'd been killed when a pressure cooker exploded. It took years before I could try canning food, and then I had to buy a new canner even though Grandma's is sitting in my pantry. All the canned food was stored in an old cabinet on the back porch. Strange--I don't remember ever eating outside except when we had watermelon. Meals were always inside.

It isn't just 'the dancing', it is those skimpy, suggestive costumes. I would like to take the parents of these kids and the parents who pimp their little kids in so-called beauty pageants, and just shake some sense into them. My God, let kids BE kids. They grow up so fast as it is. JMO Dottie

Well... I think it was totally inappropriate for girls that age.

Having said that, I thought the choreography was good, and those girls are really good dancers. Too bad they couldn't have done a routine that was better suited to their ages.

I'm not sure how, but I must have clicked on something accidently on that page and it linked to my FB page saying I and 119 other LIKED that! I kept clicking UNLIKE..but it didn't change. Went to my Facebook and had to remove it from there!

That's pitiful that any parent would allow their daugher(s) to perform like that!

My neice has been taking dance lessons at a studio since she was 4 (she's 14.) She has won NUMEROUS competitions, and the studio has produced many, many winners EVERY year besides her. There is NO WAY they would ever exploit little girls like was done in this video -- the parents (especially my sister) wouldn't have allowed it (not that the studio would have even suggested such an inappropriate song/costume for their students.) WHAT in the world were the parents thinking, letting their little girls do this?!?!?!

It's disturbing. I agree with Lillipad...all that's missing is the pole. I wouldn't even want my 20 year old daughter to dance like that!

Shades of Jonbenet Ramsey.

I heard the parents of one CHILD interviewed on TV news. In between his 'ya know's the father claimed the problem was that this wasn't intended to be seen outside of the 'Dance Competition'. That's not the problem, bub. Encouraging your child to perform lewdly in dance competions where this is considered 'normal' is the problem.

Totally inappropriate! There should be some rules at these dance competitions so the dances are more age-appropriate. I think most of the fault lies with the dance instructor (who most likely chose the song, choreography and costumes).. although parents should have complained after they saw their child practice the dance moves at home.. and when the skimpy costumes arrived.

My (then 8 year old) DD was in gymnastics and they had a show for parents at the end of the year. I didn't know what exactly would be done at the performance, but DD did practice some of the things at home and I did know what the costumes looked like. Fortunately all they did was very age-appropriate.

Same sort of thing goes on with the Toddlers & Tiaras and Little Miss Perfect pageants. Many of the dance routines are very inappropriate, with most being choreographed by the mom's. For the life of me, I will never understand the actions of some parents!

It looked like the video comments were not in English and there was French on the caption -- was this from some other country?

At any rate, pelvic thrusts and shimmying chests are not appropriate dance moves for children. The skimpy costumes make it even worse.

Too many weirdos fixated on little kids as it is, without this kind of business.

Sick. I can't believe those girls even knew what the dance moves they were doing suggested...they're too young to understand. Shame on the parents for exploiting their children like that. It's very disturbing to think that their mothers and fathers find nothing wrong with it...if I were someone who knew these "parents" I certainly wouldn't allow my children to be anywhere near them.
