My Son's Medieval Wedding.....very long!
Comments (16)Hi Everyone... THANKS for the comments! In reading some responses, it seems as though Medieval-theme weddings are common in Calif....but not here in New Hampshire. The costumes had to be custom sewn by a local seamstress. I didn't make the cake, although I do make cakes for family occasions. They got the idea for a medieval wedding while on a trip to Montreal....there was a store there with medieval things and theirs is a "fairy tale" romance (having dated in high school and friends in elementary school)....so the idea of "Prince Charming" marrying his princess was appropriate. Celeste...See MoreSon's Wedding
Comments (3)Brian will be there for sure! I know that without a doubt. He will be happy for Danny and want you to focus on Danny's special day and to know that he is with all of you in spirit. When a good friend of mine's son got married recently, she had the same feelings as you do. Her other son was murdered and she didn't know how in the world she would get through the wedding, reception etc. Her son and his bride had candles on the alter with pictures of her son and his father who was also deceased. When my friend and her son were lighting her son's candle, a HUGE thunder bolt rattled the entire church. It happened the second that the fire hit the candle wick. EVERYONE in the church knew that it was Cory letting them know that he was present. I agree with Susan as far as making sure that Danny knows how very happy that you are for him and his bride. Good luck! Lu...See MoreHow often do you phone your married sons?
Comments (71)This is evidently still an interesting topic. I almost never call my DS or DIL. I told them at the beginning of their marriage that I would love to hear from them -- whenever they want to call me. (I had an intrusive MIL.) They married one another, not me. With two grammar school age kids and work, they are BUSY. I only hope they have time to talk to one another! (DIL's family is not intrusive either.) DIL never calls me, but will sometimes email me. DS will call every 4 - 6 weeks. He sometimes uses speaker phone so we can chat with the whole family. DIL and I will chat for half an hour if *I* ask to speak with her individually. DH and I love to hear from them, but we have all the time in the world. They don't. It's good to have 'ties that bind' as long as the binding isn't a stranglehold....See MoreIf you could give your teenage son one book on sex...
Comments (12)I think it hard to know what book your kids may like without knowing your morality about sex. Are you wanting to preach abstinence before marriage, sex only with love (you may even need to go into a deeper understanding of what real love means to you), or are you just after a precationary/safe sex education for your kids? I would go to Amazon and type in something like "teenagers and sex" and read some of the explanations and comments on the books listed until you find one that is close to your thinking. I too would recommned talking to your sons over getting a book. I go on walks to talk with my sons, but I know/realize not all families feel comfortable with talking about sex. If you really don't think you can bring yourself to talk about sex, a book may help a little. Maybe it will even help spark some discussion on the matter. I also find commented about things happening on tv may help teach kids values. Your comments, thoughts, and even judgements on the subject may help educate. If you see people casually having sex (not like in a porn but like a night time soap opera) you can say stuff like..."Didn't she JUST meet him in a bar?, I certainly hope he's using a condom since AIDS can be deadly, He shouldn't be cheating on his wife; that's just awful". Don't just let things you watch slide, use the shows as an educational tool of (usually) what not to do. Laugh about the Herpes adds and add comments like, "It only takes one time or I'd hate to have tell a girlfriend I had herpes; that's why they make condoms"....See Moregolddust
