I'm excited. . .my garage sale find!

I haven't posted much on these forums, but I've certainly gleaned a lot of information. We needed some furniture for the house we bought in TN, and I ran across this bed at a garage sale on Sat. for the grand sum of $100.00! It is SO heavy and massive, but we have the perfect spot for it. Now if we could only sell this FL house. . .

Man, I can't believe all the stuff you guys do to germinate these babies. I like my method of just sticking them in the starter greenhouse and setting it in the breezeway. I guess if you don't have a cold room or area like that to put them, it is necessary to refrigerate them. I'm just so excited about them popping up in the starter cells without any fuss. I see new seedlings popping up all the time. I had one whole section of the cells that I was afraid weren't going to do anything, but when I got home for lunch today, another new baby had begun to emerge in that section, finally! I filled up two more of those 72-cell starters last weekend, and I can't wait to see what they produce. My biggest baby already has split and is branching out in two directions!! I'll have a tiny rose "bush" soon!! That one is from ELSIE MELTON. My best germinator so far tho, seems to be LAVANDE. There are 6-7 of them! I can't wait to see how different each one will be. This is so much fun!!

Lisazone6, we make lots of jam, and we eat it, too! The very small 4oz jars and the 8oz jars (half-pints) are too small for us. Well, at least the 4oz jars are. I usually make the 16oz (pints) and decide that "that's the flavor we'll eat right now" so that it doesn't sit around too long. We also refrigerate the jam once it's opened because my husband's worried about spoiling. If you're purchasing new jars you'll see that there's very little difference in price from the smallest to the largest jars. That might be another factor. If you're gifting some of your home canned products (which many of us do) you'll notice that most people don't return the jars ... although it would be wonderful if they did. So, if you'd like to make some gifts of jam you might want to use the smallest jars for some of the batch, and fill up the larger jars for your own use. Jam making is so much fun. It doesn't take a huge amount of fruit or time or equipment. And it always tastes wonderful! Oh, and when you "skim the foam off the top of the jam" before you bottle it, don't throw that foam away. It's delicious. Keep a little bowl handy to fill with the extra jam that won't fill a jar ... and that will be your reward. Freshly made jam on a spoon, a piece of toast, or a bowl of ice cream! And yes, I understand exactly how excited and proud you are. I don't think you'll outgrow that feeling either. It's that feeling that will keep you canning in triple-digit heat, standing over a boiling water bath, and cleaning up the jars and mess (and being too tired to make dinner) that will keep you doing it year after year!

Karen - the tree is from Dollar General - $10.00 after Christmas sale. I went just a little crazy (because of you guys I might add) and bought 4 of them after Christmas last year and I love the way they decorate up - the branch spacing allows you to be able to fill the interior with losts of shiney balls ..... Allison, I love your laundry room! I wish I had a bigger laundry room but just having one across from my bedroom and not in a tiny little closet and not having to go to the laundry mat is one of the nice features that sold me on the townhouse I bought a little less than 11 years ago. Where are your hampers? I just love your taste of knowing where everything should be in a room to create rooms with both class and beauty. I just bought two white wicker hampers with two compartments at Fran's Wicker & Rattan Furniture Store and were amazed at the just about no smell. They have velcro cotton drawstring bags inside and are very well sealed. I aired them out for a week so they will have no smell at all. I am glad I went with such pretty hampers that were reasonably priced for the quality. Now I have to take the suggestions I got from others on making the rest of the room nice when I have time.

Actually, flyleft, it was stored in his garage. They were in a small tract house and my guess is that they may have bought the bed before the house and it probably didn't fit.

Ah, ilovetn...well, there's a story there at any rate...such a great deal. It's the kind of bed you can pass down as an heirloom. Enjoy it!

OMG, OMG that's awesome! :) Great find! I can't believe it was so cheap. Did you run over and hug it yelling, "MINE!! ALL MINE!" haha
I can't wait to get a new bedroom (nice/matching/at least coordinating) suit. I'll have to wait until fall.

OMG, ilovetn, I bought a similar bed frame off of Craigslist! I've been enjoying it thoroughly for almost a year and am soooo glad I made hubby dust off his truck and go get it for me. Congrats on yours, hope you'll be enjoying it soon.

We aren't IN Tennessee. We want to be, but right now we are in Florida. I know our craigslist has pages and pages every day. Where we are moving in TN, you are lucky to see 3 or 4 ads in a week!

the bed is totally beautiful..it reminds me of mine, but mine is oak and is carved with oakleaves..
i totally love mine even though you tend to never move it once it is in place..too heavy ! enjoy

I am SOOO jealous!! Do you know the manufacturer of the bed? I would LOVE to buy one like it! What part of TN are you moving to? I live in east TN - not much on CL here!

We bought a home in south Greene county near the mountains. Beautiful scenery. I looked all over the back of the pieces of the bed and there is no manufacturer's label. Sorry

OMG!!! I LIVE in Greeneville!! I get my hair cut in the St. James area of South Greene. You're right, the mountains are beautiful out there! Are you familiar with Greeneville?

Yes, I'm somewhat familiar. I know the major highways and how to get to the Walmart, :) Our address is Greeneville. The house we bought is off the Asheville Hwy. If we ever get to move there, we'll have to get together.

Well, since you've already found Wal-mart it looks like you've seen it all -lol! Let's do get together! I live in the historic district downtown so you aren't too far away. Thanks for looking for the label by the way. You don't happen to live in the Tallahassee area do you? My nieghbors are moving to FL when their house here sells and I believe they are looking in that general area for a home.

First of all, Ilovtn, the bed is stunning! All I ever find at garage sales is junk . . . you did great!

And as a new TN resident myself, I had to look up Greene County, but y'all are way across the state from me . . . I'm south of Nashville, building in Williamson County.

Hope your FLA house sells quickly and you can get moved with your beautiful new bed!!

Hope you enjoy Tennessee it's gorgeous with all the mountains.

I am going to Cleveland, Tennessee for Easter. It's near Chattagooga, lovely state.
