Kay I am so sorry to hear this. I am sitting here and crying because I lost my 40 year old sister to it a month after being diagnosed in 1988.Then 20 years later I lost my mom to it 2 weeks after being diagnosed. I am praying that she goes quickly.

Thanks for everyone's wishes. She and her family live in Pasadena, Ca. so sadly, I won't be able to be with her.

As some may recall, I and all my siblings were raised in foster homes, so didn't really know each other very well.

The propensity for this cancer is hereditary, which is very scary. I had no idea she was ill until one of my brothers called me this afternoon. No one that I know of, in our family, has had cancer until this sister was diagnosed.

It's a shock to all of us.

How horrible. Did you just find out? She has my prayers for a comfortable and peaceful passing. You have my prayers to have to go through the grieving process yet again. I'm very sorry.

You have my condolences for your impending loss. It is strange, but only the last 10 years have I heard of people with pancreatic cancer or pancreatitis. Before that I never heard of them, and now both are quite common, very serious illnesses. I do wonder what the contributing factors are to these illnesses.

Sheila, do you recall that Michael Landon who played Little Joe on Bonanza & Pa on Little House on the Prairie died from it? 1991 @ age 54. I don't think there has been much progress in the treatment.

I too, am so very sorry. I think this is the most cruel form of cancer there is, so devastating.

Ah, sad news indeed. The only positive thing about this cancer is that it is usually not a lingering death. I hope Hospice is able to ease her passing. You are surrounded by kind thoughts here as you endure this loss.

You sure do have my sympathy, Kayjones. As annoyed as I sometimes get with my sisters, it will be a very hard day indeed when one of us passes on. It must be a relief at least to know she is not in pain or discomfort anymore. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Yes, Sjerin - that's what I told my brother. She was diagnosed just 3 weeks ago, unlike my husband, who lived 3 months and 2 weeks after he was diagnosed.

My Dad died at age 79 in August of pancreatic cancer. Mayo thought he had a shot at beating it, but it wasn't to be. He did make it a year though-he had surgery to remove his pancreas, spleen, and gall bladder which made him diabetic to boot. It wasn't easy figuring out the shots, counting carbs, plus getting chemo. At least he had time to get all of his affairs in order. Hospice offers free grief counseling for a year for immediate family members. So sorry you lost your sister and your DH.

Lisa, I mourn with you at the loss of your dear father. I went to grief counseling when my husband died - it helped to grieve with other widows and widowers.

As I said above, I didn't know Lynda well, as we all grew up in different foster homes, but I loved her. I have been told by those who really knew her well, that she and I could have been twins, in looks and personality - I am honored and will never forget her.

I am so sorry to hear that about your sister. My Mom died of pancreatic cancer as did her brother and her cousin. The worse thing was she got it on top of her Alzheimer's and because of the cancer her insulin was out of control and I had to start giving her insulin shots. Your and your sister are in my thoughts
