your color is very similar to the color i put in my kitchen, with oak cabinets...

one think i bet you noticed right away, is that if there is any red in that oak it really looked pretty after you got that green up..right?

being a designer i knew that green would bring out the red in the oak and my oak was fairly red..yours seems a little blonder..but i put the green up anyway..and i truly love it..(although it needs another coat now)..

i have an eggplant floral on the valences that has nutmeg, wine, green, grey and shades of creamy white in the floral, and it is beautiful..i have old worlde in my house and i have been finding purple and green glass to use in the dinette area (eat in kitchen ..have formal dining room as well) ...and i've found some beautiful purple clear glass and green clear glass..even found purle and green baking glass ovenware..

these colors make me smile in my kitchen all the time and i painted it this color many years ago..

i found some bubble glass glassware..so pretty, and found a cute floral set of purple glass plates..just this past winter..

have some depression glass in pink and in that pale green as well..

your new green is a beautiful neutral and so is your oak, you have so many directions to go with accessorizing, enjoy

Love your kitchen helpers too! We have a calico kitty that showed up on our doorstep 18 years ago. We love that silly girl! In fact, we named our house "The Calico Cottage" in her honor. Here she is looking highly offended by the goofy photographer taking her picture again. :o)

What a change.....isn't it amazing how much a little paint can change the looks? My kitchen is painted a sage green with pecan stained cherry cabinets and I love it....and rombe, I never thought of using eggplant as an accent color...might have to look for something in those colors for a change in mine, but the sage seems to go with everything....and I really like it.

I love it and it's also very similar to my kitchen paint and cabs.

I'll admit I honestly don't really like my kitchen. I didn't put any thought into it when we built and because of that my fridge sticks out like a sore thumb. It it what it is now but I think the paint has helped me like it much better. Oh well.. I do have a good amout of space.

Ronbre- You should send me some pics of your house. I love old world stuff. Your house sounds beautiful. I'm really into red, green, and gold right now but recently have started to take a liking to plumb. There is some red in my cabinets and I did notice right away the green did compliment them.

Daisy - I really had a hard time keeping them off the ladder. Normally they're very well behaved for cats. Right before I took a picture of Gizmo (calico) I caught her sprawled out on the top (middle part) of the hutch!

What should I do about the outlets around the counter? That corner section of the counter there's a bunch. Again, not sure what I was thinking. There's one behind the mixer as well as on the island side. I could easily get rid of two of them. Think I should get those clear covers? Paint those?

And about your RF, you can fix that if you want. Can you get in contact with the cabinet company or builder? What you could do is to pull out the overhead cabinet--either replace it with a 24" deep one or have supports (2x4's) made so that it can hang out approx. 12" from the wall. Then have 1" side panels made for each side of the refrigerator. Basically, you want to give it a built-in look to encase it. There are a couple of different ways I can see this done--depending on it you want to encase it 24" deep or close to 28" deep. 24"D works best for a cabinet depth refrigerator and 28-30"D best for a full-depth one. My RF is full-depth and on one side I put a 30"D side panel and the other is a 24"D pantry cabinet that was pulled out 6" from the wall and then had another 30"D panel to cover up the gap. May need to get some new crown and fix up as well.

You can paint your switch plates but first make sure you use primer on them or you can buy paintable switch plates at HD.

Looks fabulous. Tell your helpers they did a fabulous job. Tonight DH and I were trying to put the new cat tree together and Snow, our big nosey, pushy guy, would not stay off the pieces as we were trying to assemble it and when I tried to move that 18 lbs. of love, I received very dirty looks. Then after it was put together he decided he wanted to sleep on the box it came in instead!! Cats, they are a mess.

Great job, big improvement - I agree w/Val if you really hate the refrig I'm sure you could easily have panels made to encase it & give it a built in look -

If you think your white refrigerator stands out too much, what about painting the front that same green. I painted mine--doors only--with a high gloss (oil) tan paint. Because of the pebble texture, it doesn't show brush marks & came out very smooth looking.

I've since collected several large (20 x 36) interesting looking posters, had them laminated and then put magnetic strip tape at all four edges, and that becomes my "changable kitchen artwork". The current one up is an old black & white map of my city from about 1936 before the freeways & bridges.

Bru -You made me laugh. I changed the location of the cat bed in the LR for awhile and all of a sudden everyone refused to use it. I moved it back and they all but fight over it. ha

Kfca - I agree it stands out but there's no way I'd convince DH to paint the FR. I just figure at least the appliances match in color.

I should have mentioned that our old wood kitchen cabinets (still from the 1930ties) are painted bright white (boxes) & bright tan (doors & drawers) so they exactly match the refrigerator. Since I find ALL kitchens the most boring room in the house (Upstairs/Downstairs was a good idea), I've try to make ours as eclectic looking as possible.

Your kitchen looks fantastic! I painted my outlet covers. I usually do in most rooms. Hate all those white rectangles! I never use primer, just paint before I put everything away. Let them dry overnight. I think you will be very happy. Enjoy!

Kmcg - Thanks! Regarding the outlet covers do you paint the actual outlet part the cord goes in? How does that hold up over time? We honestly only ever use one of those outlets around the counter. Ok, two with the coffee maker on the other side. Would it look dumb to just paint the outlets around the counter? Haha I was worried about having enough outlets but didn't think twice about my cabinet placement! *sigh* it's really not funny I suppose.

I wanted to mention, I think I'm going to head to the kitchen forum and post pics on suggestions. I would like to get a price to somehow fix my FR issue. I can't get rid of the FR because it's not even a year old.

I only paint the covers. Over time the paint may scratch off the actual outlet and look messy. Also, once you paint those babies, you would be forced to paint again if you changed paint colors.
