My CL find input?? Dining room table..paint now for DR?

Hi all,

I'm new to the decorating forum but have been on the kitchen forum. I'm Almost finished with my remodeled kitchen and powder room and in the process sold my kitchen table and chairs on CL.

I wanted to turn our dining room BACK into a dining room downstairs (we had turned it into a home office) and move the office upstairs.

I have bought a few things off craigslist, and even got the best one free --my loving sweet crazy feity rough coated jack russell =)

Well....after looking over tons of dining room sets in stores and ones off craigslist I saw something I fell in love with...

*Note: My boyfriend says I walk into a store and am instantly drawn to the most expensive thing even though I have no idea of the price when I see it...

Well it was the dining table top. My bf is very very handy and I thought...heck table legs are not that hard and it's beautiful, but I may have someone make a base similar to the original..

I wanted a LARGE , more modern dining room table to fit with our mixture of contemporary/traditional mixture of tastes.

I went to meet the seller...and voila...low and below it was a FFDM table top! He must not have known because he sold it for 35 bucks!!! Not a scratch on it! They bought it then he realized he wasn't handy (they didn't like the base) and had it in storage in a spare room.

My only question...I am normally not drawn to more cherry finishes, I normally like dark walnut, mahogany...but it spoke to me when I saw its pic, and now i'm in love. My study/dining room to be is currently BM bittersweet (a dark mocha color). My living room is a taupe/tan (name???) and my Kitchen newly painted is BM lewisburg green which I LOVE! So any idea on a nice color to fit with the table in the dining room to create a good flow from the louisburg green?

Ideas on wall color? Chairs? I'm thinking black leather parsons chairs with cherry legs? Too much? *glass insert of table is not pictured, just clear though*

Great table top! Looking at the pic, black leather with cherry legs sounds fine. I might prefer a totally black chair to really emphasize the table top, but it's hard to say. If your table base will be cherry, than cherry on the chairs makes sense. Do you know what wood the top is made of?

That is such a find!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE that table! Yes, black leather with cherry leg chairs would be perfect! The price was a STEAL!!!! I'm looking for a contemporary look for my dinning room. I don't want the "grandmas" house look either. :0) Thanks for posting your find....gives me hope!!!!

I am not a big fan of the chinoiserie cabinet - I think it takes you away from the warm,sort of country french feeling you are creating. And for sure I don't see it in the same space as that corner hutch. Eclectic is fine, but sometimes too much and too many move from eclectic to perhaps jumbled. That said, if you decide on the cabinet, I hope you would consider putting it on the wall space between the dining and living areas, where you now have the console and candlesticks. I think the drama of the piece will be lost stuck in the alcove. Use the alcove for a built-in marble topped server and glass-front cabinet above, wine storage below, almost a built-in bar. Change the can light to a spot that you can direct on that space, and let all the barware shine and sparkle.

The new mirror is nice, but I agree it needs to come down a few inches. Wonder if you would consider changing out that lamp with the one on the metal table in the other room? This one just feels off to me in here, and I think it would be more appreciated in the other space, and the simplicity of the white shaded lamp would be better here. The candlesticks your dad made are amazing! But I think they will be lost in there. Please consider putting them in a grouping on the mantel, with soft green candles in them. Silver candlesticks are nice there, but maybe deep red candles? I like the colorful bowl, but I would rather see a large platter (oval or rectangular, perhaps) on a stand. It would help bridge the gap between the cabinet and the mirror. Maybe something like this? carynthum platter Finally, I keep forgetting to mention how much I like your DR chandelier!

I think dark paint will take the whole look up a style notch. It looks nice now, but honestly, a teeny bit yawn worthy - don't hate me! And you know I am normally off the black paint bandwagon - too predictable, too dust highlighting, so I think charcoal will be tres chic. However..... painting the fan spindles will be a royal PITA unless you spray. You're gonna think I'm nuts, but I'd tape off everything but the fan spindles and spray them - in charcoal if you can find it, but black if not - and then paint the rest of the chair charcoal. Bring them over here on a crisp day and we'll do it together!

Thanks...I'd been looking for months, in furniture stores, craigslist, everywhere and nothing really wowed me that didn't cost a fortune!

It's a very deep cherry...sorta like brazillian cherry...has sorta a zebra effect dark brown/black hue then the deep red. It's VERY heavy, took 3 of us to move. I think the top has a thin layer of veneer on it though from everything I could find on the FFDM site, but it's in great condition, one tiny bruise less than the size of a dime right near the corner, I touched it up with a furniture marker and now it's not noticeable at all and i'm very picky!

Any idea on wall color? i'm sorta a matchy matchy person and this DEF is out of the ordinary for me, I usually lean towards very dark espresso furniture. I love color though..

My kitchen is louisburg green by BM with red accents -Valspar red , (have the color name somewhere) but it's a deep red inside very upper cabs, with glass fronts and lights..the rest of the cabs are white (wanted to make the kitchen very bright since it's gallery style and long!)

The kitchen leads right into this dining room, and then into our living room which is a light taupe (prob change in the future so that color isn't important).

Any ideas on what will fit with the louisburg green? I'm not a fan of just beige/offwhite, and I do love color in my life, esp greens, blues, greys, etc. (I hate purple hues or anything with a purple hint)
